Well, if you want to change your character here, you're welcome to do so.
When the game starts up again, I will make a new character

I'm feeling much better, thanks for asking! Though, I'll admit, still fogged mentally. Not having my meds for a few days certainly didn't help >.>
But yeah, we'll be back on soon-ish. Just taking a few days to try and get things straight. I'll make some static maps to help give a better idea of the fields you're seeing. Also, I'll likely change up a few things - mostly in terms of combat. Nothing major, just some things for clarification and transparency.

I should have a proper post up during the weekend, Friday being the earliest.
I'm glad you're better!

Might take a bit longer than expected. Work has me back on a 12 hour workday schedule, so I probably can't hop onto my PC until Friday. Though, I might just get the game restarted soon without them. Tonight being that night is up in the air since I'm expected to be pretty busy with another duty that I loath instead of the one that gives me the time I need.

two questions about the world/ rules
1. Does this apply.:
A spell scroll bears the words of a single spell, written in a mystical cipher. If the spell is on your class’s spell list, you can read the scroll and cast its spell without providing any material components. Otherwise, the scroll is unintelligible.

2. my understanding of undead and not just dnd rules is that only a dead creature could turn into undead. that means someone should have killed all the sheeps before reading the scroll.

Probably magic works differently in your world for boy to be telling the truth?
Apr 5, 2022 6:22 am
It is not a scroll, it is a page from a spell book. Annex misspoke.
As far as undead go, I've heard of other things in d&d turning living things to undead without the prior having been previously alive.

Please don't get me wrong. I do not want want to argue about logic or mechanics. I just want how would my PC see the events. I get answer that she should not be surprised about turning living creatures into undead by just reading words from the page.
I would also like to know should my PC think that it is possible magic effect did not require boy to be a spell caster and any commoner would do the same?

P.S. It is scary though that the BBEG will be able to turn our PCs into undead regardless of HP we have.

I'm going to introduce a new character, should he have been there all along or should we write him in and Judea the warforged wizard out?
Apr 5, 2022 1:51 pm
I'd vote for him always having been there.
Apr 5, 2022 2:28 pm
Agreed. The warforged was a mass hallucination.

Wasn't trying to, sorry if I came off like that ^^; I have that unfortunate tendency to type like that. If Prusx wishes to, a religion/arcana check for the description of everything, as these would actually be fairly jarring and out of the norm of things. Granted, not that the walking dead would be considered "normal" :D

Also, how'd you read my notes!? Don't make me cast Modify Memory!

Q: How Detect Magic works in this world?
Do I read right that spell don't just detect "presence of magic", but is also able to see the past of magic used.
Are there any rules for how long and where does the aura manifest itself or is it "on DM discretion" ?

P.S. As an example of ruling I could share my homebrew rule I used in a one one-shot: aura stay for N hours where N is spell level and it stay on:
1. Spell target. If target is area then in the area.
2. On material component (or spell casting focus) or if there is no material component - on the spell caster on caster
But I have seen DMs who rule that aura could even stay on objects touched by spell affected creatures and such. That is also fine. I just want to believe that my PC who knows the spell since lvl 1 have learned by lvl 8 what could this spell learn about history of spell usage.

I've been of the mind to try and ignore the mechanics of spells for something that might move the story along so long as it is not totally out of the bounds. So yeah, DM's discretion fits the bill.
Apr 13, 2022 6:31 am
Cool. Will treat this spell as "ask DM's help, we are stuck".
Apr 13, 2022 6:34 am
Exactly :)

AbbyssalChimera says:
healing magics do fall under the realm of necromancy
technically cure wounds, healing word, heal - all healing spells are evocation school. Necromancy gives temp hp instead.

So could you clarify please, is it the expected behaviour for detect magic to show necromancy aura on a healing potion, or does it mean that priest have a corrupted version ver healing potion?
Apr 28, 2022 10:38 pm
Oh wow, you're right on that. I was thinking of Pathfinder 2e where it's labeled necromancy. The potions would actually show more an aura for evocation. Thanks for catching that, Grey. Take a point of inspiration for pointing that out.

I have one more question about current game state, is this fair overview:
1. I've declared action for my PC next hour
2. Talyn, Leif and G'nark have discovered that detect magic is the silver bullet in the situation and are gathering more necromantic artefacts.
3. Varn - looks like the player have abandoned the game

Now I am waiting for Talyn, Leif and G'nark to decide on their PC next actions. Is that right? The last post is with "We need to find..." statement by PC, no actions taken.
Apr 29, 2022 8:45 am
Looks like Kirin is just MIA from all. Says he was last seen around 11 days ago.
And yeah, I'm waiting on them to state their next move before moving things along.

We have found now 3 dark items dropped by this individual. We can search around for more, but to my knowledge, the individual has left and non of us can track him.
The only thing we can do to advance this plot is to search the town for my items and then take them to a propper temple / mage to have the items neutralised.
These thoughts have Leif already shared. I don't know what else we can do at this moment
Apr 29, 2022 9:36 am
can't it be that players are waiting on DM while DM waiting on players to post right now?

P.S. I have a feeling at least some of the items were not "dropped", but placed on a purpose.
