Update: I checked out the 'dungeon world guide' pdf. It looks familiar, I do believe I've seen it before but while reading through the first pages I remembered why I didn't read the whole thing.
1. I don't really like to read lengthy things :P
2. Everything I read was something I had already picked up from listening to various podcasts and watching youtube examples of play. (which is my preferred method of learning)
I think I'm quite familiar with the different concepts that can and should be used. Not saying I apply them all correctly, though ;)

I'll have another look at it and see if there's anything in there that's new to me. Definitely checking out the whole combat section.

It is meant for helping people who are very new to the game, so it might not fit you anymore, or you may already know all it has to offer. It can be a pain to read though it just to find you gained no value. :(

I don't recall what is in it, I only skimmed it way back then, and did not have the struggles that it is aimed at addressing. My first reading of DW was not 'a revelation' (as so many claim) but 'an agreement'. People had been telling me to look at DW because it was already how I ran DnD and its ilk.

Yes, that was basically my feeling when I listened to the One Shot Podcast (that Aironfabio suggested). I felt like "This system is set up the way I'd love to play." :) It ticked a lot of boxes for me.

I have been playing fiction-first in D&D as well (as a player). It is possible, but not for all actions. So you have to get to some sort of middle-ground between the two. It's also something your GM has to be open to.

OOC:
By the way, vagueGM. Not trying to rush you, but it's John's turn in the mock up battle. I think you may have missed my "what do you do?" :)
