Hi there! I am just getting back into playing RPGs after a long absence. Back in the day, I played B/X D&D and ran Star Frontiers a few times. I recently played in some online games for the first time, but I thought PBP would better fit my unpredictable schedule. Found out about Gamers Plane and looked around. This seems like a great platform and a welcoming community, so I signed up.

Looking forward to gaming - I’m open to learning new systems, but would prefer things rules light to start. I am familiar with Savage Worlds, Traveller, PbtA and Ironsworn/IS:Starforged. I am reading Jackals and Coyote & Crow now and I’m interested in Blades in the Dark/FitD. Forbidden Lands has also piqued my interest. So many cool looking systems out there now!

(Edit - I don’t know how many of the games I listed above lend themselves to PbP but I’m interested in finding out.)

If you want to see how GP functions, here are links to the New GP Member Guide, the forum rules, this video introduction made by user Qralloq and a little helpful formatting guide made by user Adam. You might also be interested in looking through some public games as well to get a feel for the site.

To join a game, keep your eyes on the Games Tavern, where GMs advertise their games and look for players.

You're also invited to join us on the Discord server for some friendly conversation, about the site, RPGs in general or anything else!

I also run a beginner's game as a quick introduction to GamersPlane and play-by-post, if you're interested.

GP user Harrigan posted about it on a discord that I belong to and linked to one of his games he ran here. I followed that link, read some of his game, read some of the getting started materials, watched some of Qralloq’s videos and here I am.

TrailHead was my trail name when I used to hike and backpack. Like a Dead Head or a Parrot Head loves their music, I really enjoyed hiking.

The only "hiking" I do now is walking the dog.

Windyridge sounds like a hiking inspired name as well.

It's inspired by where I live. We have a hill (small ridge) that is windy. 🙂
But I do hike and maintain a trail, and there are a few trailheads that cross the road I live on.

Many of those are popular here and lend themselves well to PbP. Blades in the Dark, though, struggles in this format.

Traveller is not ideal, but I am >so< close to running a game, but there are decades of rules for me to catch up on to get from 1981 to 2022. :)

'PbtA' covers a wide range. Which games interested you, and which have you tried. PbtA also covers many genres, what sort of thing are you interested in?

Thanks for welcoming me, and thanks for having posted elsewhere about GP, leading me here. I sent you a PM with the details.

Forbidden Lands looks to be the ideal system for hex crawling. Wilderness adventuring and overland travel appeals to me.

Jackals interests me both as a setting (Bronze Age swords and sandals) and as a system ("Clash" system derived from OpenQuest where PCs and NPCs have clash points they can use offensively or defensively.) Very dynamic, but may be too "transactional" for PbP, to borrow your term.

Yeah, understood. Still trying to wrap my head around PbP. Brand new here on GP and have not yet played in any PbP games. But I am hyped about the possibilities.

There are many iterations but there are plenty of folks still using the original LBBs. Maybe Cepheus Light would be a good Traveller iteration to try PbP?? In any case, count me as interested if you do run it here.

I haven’t played any PbtA proper, only Ironsworn which is inspired by / derived from PbtA. I own and have read several PbtA games including DW and Urban Shadows. Would love to play either. But system seems well suited to PbP, is it not? I lean more SciFi than fantasy but I am open. I just want to play.

I don't remember the details, but I thing I would be inclined towards going with Traveller actual rather than Cepheus (not sure what Light is, though).

It is. Most of my games are PbtA these days because most of my games are PbP and I find they mesh well.

Fantasy is, by far, the most popular genre. SciFi can also depend a lot more on the quality of the group, it can be more varied in what people expect from it.

I mainly do Fantasy and (Modern) Urban Fantasy, but like a bit of SciFi as well, for a change.
