Character Creation

Feb 7, 2022 3:57 pm
For the discussion of characters here.

Starting level: 1
Restrictions: No rare backgrounds, no poppets

Your characters have all been training in Absalom for 2-3 years. You have likely seen one another around, but its up to you all how closely you know one another. The first part of the adventure will be taking you to Taldor.

When making your sheet select custom. To the side is a dropdown where you can select pathfinder 2e to get a sheet built by Naatkinson.

Useful resources:
Archives of Nethys - The official SRD with all the character rules and choices.
Pathbuilder - A good character generator that stays up to date
Pathfinder Wiki - Has information of Golarion, the world we are playing in if you want to read up. (Or feel free to ask)

I think I'll make rogue to round out the group. Are rogues ok in pathfinder?

In that case I will most like go for swashbuckler or bard depending on the party composition

Yep. They play pretty similar. The big difference - you can get your sneak attack more than once around, but sometimes have to jump through a couple more hoops to get it.

If people want I'm happy to run a step by step char creation, or people can work on it in their own time. Also happy to help over dms or here.

I just got the core book and I am pouring through it. It is dense. The concept I had in my head was an ex-performer, circus juggler type person. Not necessarily a criminal, but possibly.
1) Is a rogue the closest thing to that concept? Maybe a monk?
2) Is there a version on the chakram in Parthfinder 2E? That can be used as a melee and ranged weapon?

Chakram is definitely a thing! Link

Naat may know more specifics, but 2e actually had an adventure path (extinction curse) where players are part of a circus, so there are a lot of feats and archetypes to help the concept. These links may help zone in on some ideas: One Two Three

Looks like I'm looking toward a halfling rogue so far.

Can I use those prices/stats when I get the equipment buying part of character creation? I'm not sure what's official or not, or what fan stuff is allowed.

I'll take a look, but may stick to what's in the book. There's a lot of options! Which is great, I just don't wanna hold people up with my analysis paralysis. :D

Everything on the site that Naat and I have posted from is first party, and allowed.

As for an archetype, you can't get into till level 2. When you get to level 2 you can use the class feat you get from rogue to take 'Acrobat dedication'. Then later on you can take more feats on the Acrobat page instead of class feats.. So basically you are trading out bits of rogue things to get some acrobat things.

You don't need to decide till lv2, so don't worry about it if you want to focus on the base character for now. (Also as this game may stay low level, so not many chances to play with archetypes, but could give you a feel.)

Once we know what everyone else has, I'll whip up a character to fill in the gap :)

Okay cool, that's a worry for future me then. I should be ae to finish up a character and submit today. I'll pop back in if I have any more questions

I finished the draft of my female Dwarf Druid Gretzva, and I’m still figuring out what equipment I want her to have, though. And which spells.

SOunds goods!

@therecusant and @Baltar how are things looking?

I should have it finished by the end of today.

ugh, it's meta-gaming, but I think I'll use star knives instead of chakrams since they have finesse. Mechanically it's got the stats i want, but I don't like the way it looks. oh well. Is there anything specific I should be spending starting funds on?
Also, where on the sheet would we note our saving throws?

I submitted my character

Looking through characters now. With currentty have a fighter, rogue, swashbuckler and druid, if that helps you make a choice Naat.

Looks like wizard or sorcerer would round us out nicely, then. I'll whip one up
