Talyn had a quiet word with the head of the caravan.

"Don't eat or drink anything they offer you... just to be safe. We don't know what's caused this yet. And stay outside unless more undead arrive. We'll be back as soon as we can."

With that done, he reiterated to his fellow adventurers, "My wandering eyes have seen the Timberash barn surrounded by the zombie ewes but I don't think we have to rush. If the rotting things are as strong as those here, they won't be able to get inside."

"Sure clean up here, no rush. Who cares if any predators will try to hunt zombie sheep" Prusx cries in an angry voice, command beast spirit to follow eagle. Then she wild shapes into giant eagle and take off in the direction pointed. But eagle will not fly straight - Prusx want to scan area. She is more concerned that sheep may have taken other direction or - she is most afraid sheep could have been attacked by wolfs and we could eventually have wolf-zombies spreading infestation all around the wild life.

"Predators, yes," Talyn said darkly. "Perhaps we'd best hurry to the farm and you'd best hurry to burn these bodies, Ol 'Peculiar."
Feb 24, 2022 8:00 pm
Judea agrees with Talyn. Lets go see this farm
Feb 25, 2022 9:12 am
Yes, lets go he says either we will find the source of the sheep or more people to save from them

"It would seem the druid has made our choice for us." G'nark observes. "Let's follow." G'nark moves in the direction the eagle has flown.

The head of the caravan looks at Talyn as if he had just insulted his grandmother, but just nods at the suggestion. Peculiar shakes his head, looking over the rotting carnage strewn about the road. He calls some people that are able to assist him in burning the corpses as the party takes their leave to hurry over to the Timberashe farmstead.

Prusx, in giant eagle form, surveys the surrounding area from up high. She spots that not a single sheep had gone astray, nor preyed upon by any form of predator. Looking closer down at the barn, however, she notices that some other farmstock had been cursed with fell unlife and were amid the mob that clattered and banged on the red painted planks. From the distance she's at, it may be that a bull had been dragged along, a few pigs, and what seems to be a gaggle of chickens.

It takes a good few minutes to dash over to the barn, but rest was sometime away with such a group surrounding the barn. Approaching, none of the animals have taken any notice of them. That said, some damage has been done to the wood. Unlike the stony foundation of the tavern, the wooden planks that make up the barnhouse are splintering and coated in dark blood.
Two voices are shouting from within, especially that of a boy. The other voice is years older and may well be the father. All of a sudden, a window above bursts open! An adult of some many years holds the boy's head out sternly, reprimanding him it seems. Seeing the group below, he calls out.
"Oy! You lot! Mind helping me fix my idiot son's mess? These damned animals are bloodthirsty brutes and are wrecking the farm I helped me father built!"

Once they get close enough Judea prepares a new spell. 8 tiny firey orbs float around her in a constant orbit.

Morden, have an invisible closer look at that farmhouse, please. Inside it if you can safely do so undetected, Talyn thought to his familiar as he got within 90 feet of the nearest clump of barnyard ghouls.

"Fetear buat'leb!" he said while snapping his fingers. A dwarf-sized ball of fire appeared more than halfway between him and the animated animals, and a flick of a finger flung it barreling into them!

OOC:
Looks like I judged my remaining time a bit less than I thought. We're just going to skip over the battle to not run into a wall, as it were, coming back. Spent resources do not need to be counted for this encounter, as that was the last battle for the day and I didn't want anyone to worry about it. Same goes for damage.
The battle this time was a little tougher, as a hardy bull that was afflicted managed to gore Talyn, but not in any life threatening way. The undead were culled swiftly just as last time.
When the dust settled, the barn doors creaked open, with the stern face of Farmer Timberashe looking over the carnage with sullen eyes. He says nothing over his fallen livestock - his way of life and money making.
With a sigh, he bids everyone to enter and rest. His son is whimpering inside, muttering apologies through the sobbing.
Mar 28, 2022 10:47 pm
Talyn burned his wound with radiance then healed it. Whatever the cause of this zombie outbreak was, he certainly wasn't taking any chances of infection and necroconversion.

He halfheartedly said to the distressed man, "The fire and light of my Empyrean lord, Tantalus Hyperuranus, have come to your aide. Remember that name when you and your people pray to your gods, Farmer Timberashe."

Upon entry, Talyn sat next to the crying man.

"No one's died. It's over. Show us how you did it so we can make sure it doesn't happen again, yes?"
Mar 29, 2022 7:41 am
annex says:

"No one's died."
Prusx look angrily at Talyn when hear those words. Keep silent though.
But she later she agree to Talyn quietly saying How is the question to start with indeed

Waiting for some information she approach farmer's son and stare at the boy with an interest, her head tilted to the side.

The lad, who looks to be roughly 16 or 17 years old, looks up at the dusk elf, and then at the rest of the party, seemingly confused by the company. He shakes his head, trying to regain what little composure he had left.
"I-I found a loose page on the ground yesterday," he says, shaking with guilt. "I saw it drop from a book that some fella in robes was carrying. I meant to return it to him, but he looked so mean... I... When I held the page and looked at it, I was so curious. I snuck out to the barn to look at it last night. I couldn't understand a word of it. It was written like some sort of magic words. I figured it had to be a spell! Pa always says magic is a foul thing to taint the world, aside from them miracles that powerful clerics and priests know.
I meant to put it down, but I was just drawn to it, like something was alive inside it. Could have sworn I heard voices too, cause I started trying to read it aloud! I was so afeared... I tried to pull myself away after that, but I guess I said too much already, for the sheep and rams were already arisen as undead, causing all the chaos...
"
He pulls it out from his jerkin and hands it to Talyn.
Apr 4, 2022 11:57 pm
Talyn declined to physically touch the page with a vehemence which verged on violently swatting it away but he composed himself.

"There are many forms of magic, boy, and the only thing making them good or evil is how they are used. For example, I can manifest an ethereal hand to do this..."

A ghostly appendage appeared and held the page.

"...or I could slap you with it," he said with a smirk. "The carnage outside was stopped by different magics... and a few swords and claws. Just know to never again tamper with such forces unless you are trained to do so."

The warlock's first thought was to burn it with fire but he had to examine it.

"The more arcane among us will have a look at this, alright? You tell us more about this robed man in the meantime, son."

To protect himself from necromantic influences before he appraised the page, Talyn quietly intoned, "Sslig'ne bwael verin."
OOC:

The lad nods quickly, just trying to cobble together every last thought he had from all the recent events.
"Well, uh, they wore a brown travelling robe. They looked pretty dirty, like he'd been travelling a good distance. He had some wrinkles to his face too, but he didn't look to far over his 40th summer. Even had a short beard that hung down from his hood. He always had it drawn over his face. I think people were calling him a courier? Heard he was looking for our local priest."
Apr 5, 2022 1:59 am
"Abyssal? Demons, daylight curse them," he grumbled but kept the page aloft for others to inspect. Had this basic scroll been intentionally dropped for someone to find and be tempted to use?

"Where does your priest live?" Talyn asked the boy and his father. "Which god do they worship?"

"They" there were more than one traveler that dropped cursed spell scolls around?

He examines Talyns floating scroll. Turn it over please? Demons? Are you sure? We should smite them in the name of Talos!

The little halfling looks like one of Talos'es paladins, except that he hasn't any religious symbols on him and no other paladin has wires going in and out of his armor.
OOC:
I have taken the +2 shield for Leif, the belt of dwarven kind is free. The Amulet of the Drunkard would also fit his demeanour

The boy who can't read script cast a spell out of it despite the teachings to avoid.
He is either poor lier or under spell influence. Maybe this is not even your son but an evil wizard magically assuming your son appearance.

Prusx laughs and evil goblin laugh and ask boy Now, cool down and tell me did the voices forced you to do that in a magical way? I will also cast some magic, don't be afraid not killing you yet, just checking and speak words of magic to cast detect magic.
OOC:
Casting detect magic using spell - no time for rituals. I hope my spell does what it say it does - it will only detect still ongoing spells and will not be bothered by instant spells cast previously. And dropping concentration on bat creature so it disappears

"No sir," the lad meekly says to Lyle, "It was just the one. My mum taught me that they can be used both ways, sir. She's a smart person."
His father adds, "Aye, she is, and yet you'd the wits to even pick up that accursed paper! Maybe I should've sent you along with her to the festival - that naught of this would have happened!"

Answering Prusx, the son says that it just filled his head with dark whispers that made him read the paper that fell.
