The Calamity

OOC:
The door has AC 21 and 40 HP. It has no damage threshold, but is resistant to piercing and slashing damage. You can roll your attack!
As Crivelln's ethereal weapon slams home, the door's surface lights up. Magical energy in the form of glowing runes pulses out of it, condensing toward the centre and coalescing into a tiny, fiercely bright point of light.

Crivelln was well prepared for the repercussions, but the first blow was very much a test, to see if anything more serious might result. It appeared that he wouldn't have to wait very long to see what that might be.
OOC:
If we don't want to play this out I can unleash all other actions as well. :) I've added those attacks and will include the following post.
Crivelln thought it best to quickly bring the door down before it could trigger anything further.
OOC:
12hp force damage, plus 32hp slashing halved to 16hp.

The solid metal slab buckles and warps under the force of Crivelln's blows. It shouldn't take much more to tear it from its frame.

The mote of light hangs in the space in front of the door as Crivelln works around it, growing brighter by the second.
Apr 11, 2022 8:53 am
Crivelln continued his hacking. If the bright light meant something, they were sure to find out about it soon enough. While his spectral weapon was effective against the door, Crivelln's greatsword was ill-suited to the task. If he knew that there was going to be demolishing of objects, he would've brought a maul or great hammer to smash his way through.
OOC:
I'll keep going! Unless anyone wants to do something else. Total 12hp force damage. The other attacks missed.

Silvanus simply steps back on the stairs to give more space to Crivelln mighty blows and turns into giant spider because he feel uncomfortable in human form among webbing. Eventually he decides to watch for anything that could endanger them from the upstairs.

A second blow from the divine axe rends the door off its hinges. As it falls, the mote of light flares impossibly bright and then explodes in a ball of flame.
OOC:
Everyone within 20 feet of the door is hit by the fireball - DC 21 Dexterity save for half damage. I'm assuming Silvanus has moved far enough up the stairs that he's not in range.

OOC:
Just for fun, let's assume spider is exactly 20 feet from the door.
Because druid in lvl 20 could cast spells in wildshape
Silvanus cast casting Absorb Elements as reaction to get 14 damage (57/2/2) to the giant spider. Spider is partially burned at 10/26 HP, but still standing when fire is gone just as webbing around spider :)
[ +- ] 1: Absorb Elements (Wis)

Giant spider dex save - (1d20+3)

(20) + 3 = 23

OOC:
Both Avaris and Silvanus get +5 on your saves due to Crivelln's Aura of Protection, 30ft range.
Crivelln knew that his divine aura would keep his friends safer from the full brunt of the explosion, whereas he had positioned himself to bear the entire blast of the fireball he knew was inevitably coming.
OOC:
Crivelln takes 57hp damage.

Silvanus turns into human and calls for his fire spirit again, Then comes to Crivelln, putting his hand in the Crivelln's shoulder
Well done! You seem hot, perhaps my spiritual friend should go first in there are more fire. He is fire himself

Yes, don't forget about Aura of Protection - that bonus means Avaris emerges unscathed.
The persistent fog near you is temporarily evaporated by the fire, though it begins creeping back almost immediately. You barely catch a glimpse of the chamber beyond the door before it is once again shrouded, but you do have time to note a large, ornate sarcophagus.
Apr 13, 2022 2:40 pm
"Thank you, now let us proceed to see if the clone has for some reason not yet been activated. Watch for traps." Crivelln led the way, bearing his illuminating lantern in one hand, sword in the other.
OOC:
Recover 15hp
Apr 13, 2022 6:39 pm
Avaris takes a quick glance around before continuing, if he can figure out where the fireball came from perhaps they can be better prepared for anything else that assaults them.
OOC:
Well That Worked ;)

Just as Crivelln is about to step over the threshold of the room, Avaris' hand on his shoulder stops him in place. In the light from the Lantern of Revealing, a shimmering symbol spreads across the floor of the chamber, so faint and fine as to be almost invisible while it lies dormant.

Avaris has seen its like before. Death.
Apr 14, 2022 6:51 am
Crivelln saw the near invisible outline of the symbol at the same time as when Avaris laid a warning hand on him. That was the moment to give Silvanus' pause on his wildfire spirit as well, for it wasn't fire they had to deal with now, but a sigil of death.

Crivelln looked more carefully to see if the symbol would affect the entire room they were about to enter.
OOC:
With Avaris' roll, would he be able to tell whether the entire room would be affected by the sphere's effects?
Apr 14, 2022 7:52 am
When Silvanus see that Crivelln ignore his suggestion to send spirit to trigger any other magical attacks (because spirit is renewable resource) he sends spirit back up the stairs to burn any webs that may want to spread their way.

When Silvanus see silent communication between friends he send tepehatic question to sends "What's wrong?"
OOC:
As far as I understand Silvanus don't understand why Crivelln is stopped in the doorway by Avaris. He do not see the shimmering symbol yet and even if see then only Avaris recognise it.
Apr 14, 2022 8:37 am
"Sigil of death inscribed on the floor." Crivelln replied. While he had understood Silvanus' methods, having been teammates for so many years, Crivelln continued to marvel at the differences in their approach.
OOC:
Haha, another playstyle difference! I don't see Crivelln as treating summoned creatures as renewable resources. Crivelln can summon a celestial, but he would treat that celestial as an ally, just like how he has named his pegasus from Find Greater Steed.

@BedzoneII
The difference in play style i see is this: until DM say that Crivelln knows this is "Sigil of death" your PC can't claim it. It was only Avaris who did recognize it

As for attitude to summons - it is not a play-style it is a role play I choose for the particular PC. I have done it different for different PCs
[ +- ] Some details

"Death" The Word Immediately goes out through Avarris's Mind Transmitting to Crivelln who is in danger, he takes the time to point out the Symbol to Crivelln and then Turns back to Silvanus, "A Sigil of Death This Direction may just be a trap, however it looks like we're encountering some of the strongest wards which I would expect to be placed at the entrance." looking carefully for a way around Avaris takes a look from every angle moving himself on to the ceiling of the hallway so he can get a better look a the ceiling of the other room without straining his neck and so on Investigating from every angle before proceeding, there must be some way around this, flight? walking on walls? even just going around, that or a way Theo would have disarmed when he was headed through.

OOC:
I have edited to delete 'death' from my post. I will however point out that it is Crivelln who owns the Lantern of Revealing which reveals invisible creatures, and it is the DM's perogative whether it also reveals near-invisible things like a Symbol spell. If the DM were to play it RAW, only an Investigation check would reveal it, so Avaris the PC can't claim it either. I do not agree that this is a play style issue, but a DM perogative issue. I do agree with your correction though, and have corrected myself unless the DM says otherwise.

Your comment 'renewable resource' leads me to understand that it is a play style issue and not a role-play issue. But thank you for your further clarification in your further explanation. It is a play style issue because one of the ways to treat summon creatures is as expendable resources, to be cast and recast to serve exploration. It is the equivalent of sending minions, henchmen, etc to trigger traps, wards, what we call cannon fodder. I did not only specify Find Greater Steed but also Summon Celestial. It is a role play issue if you presented some role-playing with your wildfire spirit. I only now know about your roleplay details from your additional note explaining your previous experience with warlocks, paladins and druids.
