Gennison Yachts and Luxury Getaways

Science Division Private Lobby

This is, by far, the swankiest job interview you've ever attended. At least, you think it's a job interview. The package at your doorstep almost went unnoticed. Surely, you didn't recognize the emblem - a boat where the resulting wake was faceted like a diamond. But the letter inside was addressed not to you, but to your alter ego.

I have a business proposition to discuss. Please arrive at Door 1C, 9:30pm sharp, wearing the included construction dust covers over your usual uniform. The name badge will be your entry code. Enclosed you will also find $500 in cash. Use this to make any necessary repairs to your uniform, pay for cab fare, etc.

If you choose not to take this opportunity, please feel free to keep the funds as a gesture of good faith. Discretion is our utmost goal. Please be aware that if this contract is broken, we will come to collect the funds and other damages.

I look forward to meeting with you.

There are just enough chairs for each of you, and while they look fairly plain, they're quite comfortable. The walls are decorated with original geometric art pieces that reek of high cost. In addition to the usual water cooler (the steel jug of which is embossed with the company logo), there are light refreshments and a wet bar. Behind a majestic mahogany desk sits a dark-aired woman with a stern expression. A single leather-bound notebook sits on her desk, and she writes so quickly at first glance you'd think she was using more than one pen.

She informed you when you entered your meeting would start at 10pm. She did not give any other instructions.

Riven paces the room rather than sit down. She'd like to sit but this whole situation makes her nervous for some reason. The dust covers didn't exactly fit her form. It made her feel awkward. She told herself that her costume was little more than a bathing suit anyway, so it shouldn't matter, but the way the extra layers bulged and curved with her body...just felt weird.

But it wasn't just her self consciousness. Somebody new how to find her despite all her work to keep her two lives distinct. Her mask probably wasn't reliable, but she rarely went out as Becky Sanders since landing that gig as a medical coder from home. It didn't pay much but it kept her afloat. 'Afloat. Good one.' she thought to herself.

Now someone was giving her $500 bucks just to listen to their sales pitch. And if the vibe was right, more money was on the table. But who did that sort of thing. In this day and age the heroes wouldn't let a bunch of supervillains organize into a gang. Most super baddie team-ups were forged out of convivence and proximity. And they didn't last long.

Maybe this was just a one time gig? But bringing them here, rather than an empty abandoned warehouse somewhere? If they were meeting here, it meant the mastermind had ties to this company. So they were taking a risk. Which could excuse the veiled threat but Riven didn't like it either.

The snacks and drinks were a nice touch too, but still a risk at this point. She'd wait to see if anyone else took something.

At least a cat running around that wasn't too strange.

Brigid O'Hickey strolls around the lobby in her power armor. Each step is accompanied by the muffled thud of the power armor's weight landing on rough commercial carpet, and the hissing of the joints' hydraulics. As for the dust cover, Brigid wore it over her body, and not the power armor, as per the letter of the request rather than its spirit.

After looking around to see if anybody noticed that she was underaged, Brigid sidled over to the wet bar and poured herself half a shot out of the fanciest looking bottle. Just enough to taste.

Shot glass in hand, Brigid decides that it would be fun to partake in conversation as she partook, so to speak. The nervous one pacing seemed to be thinking about stuff, so Brigid decided to speak to the one dressed like a cat. Leaning in next to her, Brigid greeted her.

"Hi there!"

Five hundred bucks was more than what Dan had seen in a month, in recent months that is. That was pretty much enough to cover the dry cleaning for the suction cups to make them sticky again. He had been stealing cleaning lotion from the laundrette two streets away and while he could've continued to do so, it felt good to march up through its front doors and tell the little old lady that he wanted the costume hand-handled, not man-handled, but no ironing in case it ruined the ribbed torso section on the wrong heat setting.

It seemed almost a pity to disguise it with construction wear at first, but Tentacular understood discretion! And also the lure of more money! The overalls got in the way of the first couple of rooftop swings as he tried to get to the stated destination by the waterfront. That when it occurred to him that he could simply carry the dust covers with one of his, um, arms, while swinging freely with the other three. That made the journey go much faster. Even so, he was the latest. Entering he saw three others already present, and a fourth woman sitting behind a desk.

"Sorry I'm late, traffic was hell! Have we started yet? Oh I see we're still sitting around, waiting for someone else? Or me? Oh me! Yes, hello, I am the Spectacular Tentacular! Please to meet everyone!" Four limbs shot out from his body, proffering hand?shakes to everyone, including the woman behind the desk.

"You can call me Macavity the Mystery Cat.Or just Macavity
Apr 1, 2022 4:26 pm
Brigid nods in response to June.

"Yep, it is. Shame that we're here on business, I'd like to explore the area a bit. Name's Brigid, Brigid O'Hickey, but my codename's Terminal. Nice to meet you, Mystery Cat!"

Upon seeing the Spectacular Tentacular enter, Brigid gasped in surprise.

"Hang on, I remember seeing you on TV when I was a kid! I honestly thought you were a childhood fever dream or something."

Not to leave a tentacle hanging, Brigid takes up the offered hand(?)shake.
Apr 1, 2022 8:41 pm
Riven jolts at seeing the tentacle/hand being shoved in her face. She frowns and tilts her head to see the man behind it. Using one finger she pushes the appendage to the side.

"Yes. Hello Tentacular." Her tone is dry and uninterested. Now that the kid has started drinking, Riven seems prepared to risk a drink. She pours three fingers of whisky into a glass, but just carries it for now, waiting to see if the girl in the power armor suffers any ill effects.

After another minute she realizes the young girl probably hasn't ever been drunk before and there is no way Riven will know if slured words are from knock-out drugs or just the alcohol. Deciding there's little risk in a trap after all this setup, Riven sits in a chair and takes a sip.

"I go by Riven. Sorry about not introducing myself before. I...I guess...I was just nervous. I though I'd covered my tracks better. I don't suppose any of you have a clue what we are doing here? I mean beyond the cryptic invites we clearly all got?"
Apr 2, 2022 12:31 pm
"Why that's terribly flattering young lady, Terminal is it?"The tentacle made a flourish accompanied by a obsequious bow (if tentacles could indeed do that). "I shall try to deserve my reputation then. Oh the wonders of this contraption of yours, I'll bet it can bench press more than my appendages combined!" The compliment went straight to Tentacular's head, followed by wistful heyday thoughts of being the gangrunner for the Go and Glow twins. He came back down the earth when Riven pushed his hand aside. "Well someone doesn't like calamari very much. No point speculating girl, it's all going to be revealed." One of his fingers pointed backward at the woman at the desk. "A good villain is always fashionably late."
Apr 2, 2022 6:02 pm
"I don't know about you guys, but I really hope it's some eccentric, rich supervillain offering to sponsor us. Wouldn't that be great?"

That would be Brigid's best case scenario. It'll be hard for her to achieve notoriety in a short time without some ample support.
Apr 2, 2022 8:14 pm
hmm. that would be good. and if they can bankroll this and $500 just to talk? she trails off and looks to the woman with the files who has stayed silent. Is it you then?
Apr 3, 2022 1:07 pm
The woman had been watching you all intently, shaking Tentacular's....hand? Without stopping her writing.

I am simply Dr. Gennison's secretary.

Her voice is jarringly ethereal, almost like a song you suspect you weren't supposed to hear.

I can answer any questions you may have about the company, but Dr. Gennison would prefer to discuss the intricacies of your super-work himself.

She didn't call you villains. That hasn't happened in a while.
Apr 5, 2022 3:09 pm
Tentacular found himself strangely uncurious. He didn't need to know whom he was going to work for; he wasn't about to judge their provenance nor their background. In fact, the less he knew the better. In fact, there was one time he was the first to be released from police interrogation because it was easy for the fuzz to ascertain that he knew next to nothing about the arcane plot of the Grand Poobah to substitute soda in the city's supply for water. His role then was to simultaneously turn off a bunch of spigots in the plant, hardly a capital crime.

He smiled vapidly at the secretary's offer but asked nothing.
Apr 6, 2022 1:45 am
As perpetually curious as her resting face may be, Brigid didn't have many pressing questions for the secretary. Or rather, she'd rather wait until Dr. Gennison appeared to ask questions.
Apr 6, 2022 3:45 am
"Nah, We can just wait for this Gennison guy to show.
Apr 9, 2022 6:47 am
The door to room 1C swung swiftly but gently open as figure swooped into the midst of the other supers gathered. The supers gathered in the room murmured briefly to themselves whether Gennison had finally arrived. However, the anticipation was truncated at the sound of a smooth Southern drawl, "My apologies for the tardiness. You'll never guess how many times I was stopped on my way over here." The sighs of disappointment were tangible but discrete.

"More than two?"

ElectroLite didn't bother to figure out which one spoke up. "Zero, actually. Told ya you wouldn't guess." The super gave a small chuckle, glancing up at the clock on the wall. Just past 10. "So, what did I miss? Hopefully just icebreakers - never was a fan of them if I'm being honest."
Apr 10, 2022 2:10 am
Aw, I worked so hard on them, too!

The playful voice does not belong to the secretary, but to a well-trimmed man emerging from the office. His slightly athletic build is accented by his pink and white French-cuffed shirt, suspenders and a tie with some sort of molecule complemeting his look. His hair is perfectly - perfectly styled, and his smile catches the light like someone planned it that way.

Ah, but you're right. Doctor Oxford Emmett Gennison. I'm the head of polymerization and research here. Delighted you could all make it. Come in, come in!

He ushers you into the room - the chairs here are far nicer - and leaves his secretary with a wink and finger guns.

I'll take it from here, Callie. And I'll take you to brunch Monday for your trouble.

The woman responds with a curt nod and tight lips.

Gennison's office is massive, with a huge wall of glass overlooking the bay. There are paintings of what you assume are the Gennison patriarchs, his own just below the one that appears to be his eldest brother, alongside a similar portrait of his sister. The room smells of fine cigars - tobacco, and vanilla, and warm spices. He pours a heavy-handed serving of scotch for himself before gesturing to the wet bar, offering the same to you. With a satisfied plop, he lands in the massive leather chair behind his mahogany desk.

I have got to say, I am just delighted you all decided to take me up on this meeting tonight. I have scoured this city for
months looking for supers with your potential who weren't already on the comic book stands. And now that you're here? Ah!
He clasps his hands and gestures to each of you in turn.

ElectroLite, with your magnetic personality

Tentacular, with your old-school poise and class

Miss MaCavity, with your expert timing

Terminal, with your ambition

And Riven, with your adaptability.....

He pauses and chuckles.

I can't complain about your ladies' style, either, eh, guys?

He downs the scotch and leans back in the chair.

But suffice to say, I'm a huge fan.
Apr 10, 2022 3:37 am
"Well, I'm just charmed at your illustrious praise, Mr. Gennison," ElectroLite smiled kindly at their suitor while pouring a double shot of tequila. Alcohol: moderate depressant, minimal risk of arrhythmia...

"But I reckon this is a bit much to do for a handful of autographs and a photo-op, much less in such esteemed company. I'd not deny you the pleasure of lauding our talents, but do feel free to bring us up to speed with any plans you may be harboring at your earliest convenience."

Riven gives a huff as she sits down in a nice chair, seeming put off by the style comment outwardly, but when she crosses her legs she turns in her seat to show a lot of thigh to their host.

"The invite didn't make it seem like we were here for a fan meet-and-greet Gennison. Why don't we skip the pleasantries and get to the point? If we like what you have to say we can make with the chit-chat later."
Apr 10, 2022 9:38 am
Straight to the point, I knew I was right to call you in. He shakes his head but smiles.

To be brief, one of our competitors is trying to patent my latest fiberglass composition. This particular "recipe" is less susceptible to decomposition due to a UV-activated molecular chain that -

He chuckles.

Ah, you don't need to know the nitty-gritty.
The long and short of it is I've got plenty of documentation, but they're the type to lawyer up until the tech is outdated. A non-conventional approach will throw them off and get us moving again with time to spare.

He pivots slightly as he finishes.

It may not be the most exhilarating job. But just consider it an interview for future partnerships. And I can pay you handsomely without even scratching what they'd cost me in legal fees. Everyone wins!
Apr 10, 2022 2:47 pm
Old school poise? And did he say class? The flattery went straight to Tentacular's head, did a little two-step, and danced right back out in the form of a goofy smile which Tentacular tried to suppress. "Dr Gennison, it is a pleasure to finally meet you. I am a huge fan of polymers myself! I find it fascinating that sufficient nano microfibres on a suitable substrate can be made to perform with the same adhesivity over and over again for thousands of times before needing renewal, see?" He shot one of his tentacles out, picking up a whisky glass without spilling its contents. "If you have some time I would love to discuss -" That was well Tentacular caught himself shooting off, - oh, perhaps another time. Sure, I'd gladly offer my services." Gennison hadn't gone into the specifics yet, but Tentacular was ready to sign up whatever it is that he was meant to be signing up for.
Apr 10, 2022 2:57 pm
Hmm, a doctorate in polymerization. Wonder if I can get some stuff to add to the power suit. Remembering that she had a drink, Brigid takes a sip of her drink, and immediately spits it back out into the shot glass, sticking her tongue out in disgust. Blegh. Straining to keep the grimace off of her face, Brigid addresses Dr. Gennison.

"So, by non-conventional approach, you mean...?"
Apr 10, 2022 3:00 pm
"I agree, praise is all well and good, but what is the purpose of this little meeting?
She perches cross-legged on a chair as she speaks
Apr 10, 2022 6:27 pm
Well, to be frank, I need you to steal my competitor's hard drive and destroy the documents he's started to forge.
Apr 10, 2022 7:49 pm
"Wait, steal and destroy? Isn't that a little redundant? Do you need these documents back or are we sending a message?" ElectroLite poured another shot.
Apr 10, 2022 7:54 pm
"I think hes asking us to retrieve what was stolen and destroy any reproductions"
Apr 10, 2022 9:40 pm
Gennison waves a nonchalant hand and pours...this time a brandy.

I suppose you can destroy the hard drive. It'll just take longer for my tech guru to confirm you got the right one so I can pay you.
Apr 10, 2022 10:21 pm
Well, Brigid would've honestly preferred a more showy job, but she decided that the promise of future jobs was worth exploring. The paycheck would also help kickstart her career.

"Sounds simple enough. Any catches we should know about?"
Apr 11, 2022 12:46 am
"Wasn't this the plot to the pilot episode of Leverage? I mean...almost literally. Am I Eliot? I call the Hitter role. Which one of you is Hardison? Riven laughs at her own joke.

"Yeah, ok, I can get on board with this job. But, unlike the characters in that show, this Hitter won't hesitate to come after you if you double cross me. I promise no one here will be able to stop me.

"What is Leverage?" Tentacular's private weakness was Downton Abbey, and further back, Jersey Shore, which he thought was one and the same thing. "Which one am I?" He asked Riven, curious.

"Do you need all of five of us to steal a hard drive?" Flashes of each of them using their own area of expertise when their time came in order to fulfil the mission populated Tentacular's imagination. It was time for some details!
Apr 11, 2022 9:42 am
"Woah, now, hold up. I may be a thief but I draw the line at being involved with murder
Apr 11, 2022 9:47 am
"Murder? Who's talking about murder?" Not that that bothered Tentacular. In fact, missing the connection between murder and this Leverage show bothered him much more.
Apr 11, 2022 2:26 pm
Oh, don't fret. Violence past the usual breaking and entering will only be necessary if you don't live up to your names. And surely any "murder" in this case would only be an act of self defense.

Your host starts typing a little on a pad on his desk.

This operation is, at least in the spirit of things, perfectly legal. The information on the hard drive is rightfully mine. The forgeries should not exist. And by taking this route we're preventing a strain on the legal system, allowing valuable taxpayer dollars to be used on more pressing matters. Hell, for all practical intents and purposes you're the heroes here!

This is the first time he's really acknowledged.....why people like you aren't on comic stands yet. He continues pulling up the documentation needed to get you ready for the heist. You almost miss his curious glance into the room. He knows it's a loaded comment.
Apr 11, 2022 5:15 pm
An eerie tension fell over the room at the mention of "heroes". It wasn't a phrase commonly uttered in the presence of those gathered. It wasn't quite taboo, but suffice to say that opportunities to bring it up were...scarce. ElectroLite considered pouring a third drink, but pulled back.

Floating breeze, calming pool,... ElectroLite took a long, deep breath, mindful of the mantra. "Listen, Gennison, I'm sure you mean no offense, but that word tends to conjure a very particular mold to which few, dare I say none of us particularly adhere."

"...heed no mind..." "Not to speak for the others, but I reckon you're free to leave your moralizing at the door.
ElectroLite turned back towards the open bottle and the empty glass on the counter. If this were a job for heroes, I'm sure you'd have called the hotline by now.
Apr 12, 2022 3:17 am
Brigid had no reason to mind the whole hero vs. villain thing personally, but she knew the others here might. If anything, the transparent jab at them annoyed her more than the topic itself. Well, ElectroLite's response was clearly and firmly stated, so Brigid didn't feel like she needed to say anything. Though that didn't stop her opinion of the good doctor from dropping.
Apr 12, 2022 3:49 am
"Okay. Like he says, I won't be killing anyone unless it really hits the fan. I'm a Bad Guy(tm), not a bad person. So don't worry about it now. And I agree with Electrolite. This isn't hero work. If it were they'd be on the job."

You need 'plausible deniability' here for some reason. If you were as close to perfecting your product as you claim, you could just go public right now and let the 'Court of Public Opinion' win you the day."

"With that settled for now, I'm ready to move on to specifics. When do you want us to do the job? And where are we hitting them? In this day and age the could have cloud backups. You sure your intel is good enough? No chance we miss something you need?"

You catch just a pinch of a smile on Gennison's face before he moves on.

The method uses shellac from a threatened Brazilian beetle. Not endangered, mind you, and my team is developing a synthetic alternative. Still, buzz-words get ratings these days, and I don't need that kind of bad press.

My competitor is Thomas Grady with Allied Cruises. His corporate offices are around the pier. The cloud is a concern, but he's a dinosaur when it comes to his passwords. That booklet should be in the same safe as his thumb drive and the forgeries.

His computer screen shows a variety of images: images of the company's work, Grady, and finally, a map of the complex.

I need you to go tonight while the bulk of his security team runs damage control after his yearly anniversary party off-site. And I need you, specifically, because I have intel suggesting his skeleton security crew is made up of Supers.
Apr 14, 2022 10:07 pm

Apr 14, 2022 10:49 pm
Brigid hones in on the fact that they'll be facing supers. After all, a super's battles against other supers is essential to one's image and reputation.

"What do you know about the supers that are going to be there?"
Apr 14, 2022 11:30 pm
Only names, unfortunately. Quantum Gal, The Ox, and the Black Swan.

He turns back to MaCavity. They do have a surveillance system. Your best bet will be to disable that first. In the interest of time, a standard video loop may be appropriate.

I will mention that after you collect the items, you'll want to lay low, then return here by the same method tomorrow night. Third-shifters are one thing, but it'd be odd for workers to return at the hour I suspect you'll be done.
Apr 15, 2022 12:28 am
And there it was, why Gennison needed all of them to steal a hard drive. "Supers? Super!" Tentacular was sure he had entangled with at least some of them before, or then again maybe not. There were so many of them nowadays it was hard to keep straight: was it Bullpen, Mad Cow, The Ox, Gorehorn or Buffalo Billy that foiled his escape once? And so many with Gal, Girl, Grrl, Grrrl and even Grrrrl suffixed at the end. "Sounds like a blaster, a beater and a ballerina will be running defence!"
Apr 15, 2022 3:28 pm
has a perturbed cat look, and if she had a tail it would be twitching. She stays quiet though. If they were famous or dangerous supers, they'd have heard of them. So that was a good sign at least....
Apr 16, 2022 2:33 am
Brigid shrugs at Tentacular's assertion about the supers' abilities.

"Ehh, you never know. Names aren't the best judge of ability. Speaking of, if we're going to make a decent plan, we're going to need to know each others' powers. As you can see, mine is pretty self explanatory."

A wave of her power armor's arm demonstrates.

"No tricks just yet, but it enhances my physical ability all around."
Apr 16, 2022 3:46 am
"I like the way you think Terminal. We can check social media to for intel on the supers. No one can work in that field and stay off the grid. An ability breakdown on our end is a good idea. I have 'tactile telekinesis' here." A green aura flairs up around her. "If I can touch it, I can lift it. I'm bullet proof because of that, as long as I know it's coming. I can fly," and Riven floats off the chair a little,"I guess because I am in touch with myself? Once an object is not touching me, I lose all control over it."
Apr 16, 2022 12:02 pm
"I'm afraid you've seen the best and worst of me," was Tentacular's response to the the shortcut discussion to introduce their powers. It was vital to know what the others could do. He already did his whisky glass trick moments ago, and wasn't sure juggling the rest of the tumblers on the tray would further impress or push things over the edge. "I'm very very handy to have around."
Apr 19, 2022 11:01 pm
"And as for yours truly," ElectroLite chirped up, a bit loudly, "I'm what certain doctors have referred to as 'selectively magnetic'. I can do this..." The table lurched into the air as though being suspended on a wire, rotating slowly in perfect balance. "...so long as I keep the ol' ticker on ice. Once I hit triple digit BPMs, the only thing I'm levitating is my feet."
Apr 21, 2022 3:14 pm
And I think we'll wait until Miss MaCavity is in action. Don't want to let the cat out of the bag.

He winks across the table then stands to open a case on a low bookshelf. Opening it, you see a variety of gear inside.

Magnetically shielded electronics. The wristbands have a button to "ping" your location to allies, a small digital map, and a short range security scrambler that'll confuse your footprint. The cameras overall will see glitches in the video, so you'll still want to do something to the global system. There's a set of thieves' tools in here, too.

I have a car to take you within a block of the company. Do you need anything else?
Apr 21, 2022 9:51 pm
she shrugs and examines the tools to see if they're actually useful. Pretty sure were good.
Apr 22, 2022 3:05 am
It was interesting that the good doctor had such specialized tech on hand. Perhaps he'd already anticipated his need of such services well in advance? Or perhaps the devices were used by others before them.

Whatever the case, Brigid picks up a wristband. She turns it over in her hand to examine it from all angles, before clipping it on. It hangs a bit loose on her thin wrist.

"Neat. By the way, I hope your car is able to fit my power armor. It's not exactly small."

scene change
The scent of salt water flutters around you as the pickip truck chugs merrily through the night. "Chad's Emergency Plumbing" isn't the swanky ride you may have been expecting, but it's self-driving and pulls attention away from Terminal's armor. It turns down a delivery alley and your wristbands buzz to life. The map shows about half a football field, with a smaller map in the upper corner indicating you're about 2 blocks away from the service entrances of the company. The digitized plot reminds you of an old flight simulator, or a game on a calculator, but the contrast is good in the dim light. The truck rolls to a stop and you hear the doors unlock.
Apr 22, 2022 10:45 pm
Brigid hops out of the bed of the pickup truck. After landing feet first on the ground, she stretches a bit to calibrate her power armor one more time.

"Okay, so who's doing what?"
Apr 23, 2022 4:24 pm
ElectroLite lazily detached from the metal interior of the vehicle. "First things first, we gotta take down the surveillance system, whether directly taking the control room or via remote hack. Then we need to bypass security and secure the payload. And if all goes well, we need to get out again."

Looking over the rest of the team, ElectroLite supposed it might be best to split up, "That leaves us with two, perhaps three teams - one for each task. Personally, I'd prefer to take the surveillance route, but I can be persuaded."

While y'all formulate a plan please roll Introvert (low), Street Smart (low), or Head (high) to get a better feel for your surroundings.

"Gotta scope the place first." Tentacular did not so much step out of the back of the van than sling him out with an extension of his arm, suctioned on the nearest building. "We need to figure out the best entrance/exit, and also see where the security room or access point is to take down the surveillance, as Electrolite says."

Do our devices already have intel and a map of the place? Or I'm assuming this roll will be able to give us a bit more info in that regard? Anyway, Tentacular has no relevant stat (ie he's got Extrovert, Head Smart and Heart), so I'll need some guidance on how to roll. Help?

A map, yes, but nuances are missing, like landscaping, witness, locations of the alleged supers, etc. Go ahead and roll one of the listed stats anyway. In your case, I'd suggest Street Smart. You've got a 50% chance since you went for a more balanced score, and a d4 doesn't have perfection or failure, so a miss is fairly safe.

When Terminal tries to get a look around a dark feather flies out of an air vent and smacks her in the face.

Tentacular and Macavity notice a few extra cameras have been put in place, and a laser tripwire inside the building. The cameras, at least, could be blocked by a branch from a nearby bush with a little creativity. There's enough of a breeze that it'd be believable.

Apr 25, 2022 5:27 pm
Brigid sputters a bit as the feather hits her face. Picking it off her face, she looks up at the air vent it came from.

"Huh. Do birds live in this thing?"

She takes a look inside. If it's too tall for her, she'll dismount the power armor and climb on top of it to get a look.

"That's a black feather." Tentacular exclaimed, but quietly. "Told you there was a ballerina." The observation wore thin, but the others ought to know what, or whom he was referring to.
Apr 27, 2022 12:36 am
Brigid gives a snort when she imagines a ballerina wiggling around inside an air vent, fluffy tutu and all.

"Alright, I get it. I'll stay put."
Apr 29, 2022 3:50 pm
Theres a rustle in the tree and an ear-splitting HWRAAAAANK!!

("We have company" implies you're invited!)

A small, agile figure in black darts out of the tree and flies towards the building. They surely intend to sound the alarm, but successful pursuit could mean a faster route inside.

Apr 30, 2022 2:42 pm
Trying to entangle someone before they got away was very much in Tentacular's wheelhouse. He launched himself, all four of his appendages flailing and extending like a jellyfish on an acid trip. At one point he was farther behind Terminal, but his limbs shot past as the black feathered figure flew out of the tree and past the air vent. Tentacular was reaching, stretching and reaching ...

May 2, 2022 10:37 pm
Brigid wows at the flailing of Tentacular's tentacles. Just like what she remembered as a kid! Or, a close approximation to it. She did have an active imagination when she was little after all.
May 9, 2022 4:53 pm
Reaching...stretching.....reaching.....got 'em! It's the Black Swan all right. But they're far shorter than you imagined. 3 feet tall at most! The surprising lack of weight throws you off, but only barely. The Black Swan bites your arm, otherwise restrained. With little effort you yank the very short, very angry man in a black-feathered masquerade getup back to the group.

HWRAAANK!! HWRAAAAANK!!!!!

(You think I didn't plan for this? Let me go or you'll regret it!!)

You finish your display of prowess with just enough time to catch Terminal's awed expression.
OOC:
Sorry for the delay. Your adversary is restrained well enough you can hold for a while or move him.
May 9, 2022 4:55 pm
ElectroLite, you can tell the base models of the surveillance are standard issue, but you can't pin down the frequencies. Whoever set these up is good. Which is inconvenient for you.
OOC:
I'm calling your failure a revelation of very good tech.
May 10, 2022 12:29 am
Brigid looks at the captured Black Swan curiously.

"You're one heck of a ballerina. Are you part swan or something?"
May 10, 2022 12:41 pm
HWRAAAAANK!
May 10, 2022 1:34 pm
"You planned to be caught? Hwak you too!" Tentacular retorted. "From one professional to other, I'm not in the mood to fight you, but we also can't let you raise the alarm. So either you submit peacefully, or we'll have to go back to option one." Tentacular curled an appendage around what passed for the short man's neck to make a point. "Shall we continue to talk like unreasonable men?"
May 17, 2022 4:09 pm
The Black Swan waggles his head with no small amount of sass.

"Hwra-ank."

(Timed check-ins, plebian. Let me get my comm or they'll know anyway.)

He clearly doesn't want to physically fight you if he can avoid it. But will you keep him away from his comm, or risk that the check-ins are real?
May 17, 2022 11:27 pm
Brigid has an idea of how to bypass the timed check-ins, she just needs to get a hold of his comm.

"Where's your comm?"
May 18, 2022 1:07 am
Casually looks down at her hands. And as a reminder, cats do eat birds after all. and while i wouldnt eat you, i might bat you around for a while
May 18, 2022 4:37 pm
The Black Swan hisses at you, baring his sharpened teeth. He's really committed to this....
OOC:
Terminal, I'm going to need a roll of your choosing, with disadvantage (roll twice) to convince him that this is better for everyone.

That said, I will let MaCavity also roll something of her choosing for intimidation. If that passes it'll help Terminal.
May 18, 2022 5:02 pm
Looking around, Brigid finds her tool of choice on the ground, the feather that hit her in the face before. She twirls it around in her hand, inspecting it from every angle.

"Maybe this will tickle your memory."

Brigid shoved the feather up Black Swan's nose, wiggling and jiggling it around.

Hwraaaaa.......hwraaaaaa.......hrwa-CHOO!!

The feather trick works! In the Swan's convulsion a small electronic device clatters off his person. The comm is in hand!

But, Terminal is briefly distracted by MaCavity's grin, which looks less like a menace and more like "Hide Your Pain Harold". In the split second, the Black Swan nips at her hand! The comm falls back to the ground and buzzes softly.

"Black Swan do you copy? Check in, Black Swan! Emergency protocol will begin in five seconds....."
OOC:
Terminal you may either take 1 damage or roll the next 3 checks that require your hands with disadvantage.

Brigid yelps in pain, but picks up the comms and turns it on. She gives her best swan impression, pinching her nose to produce the best nasally echo she could. Not like people really knew how to tell one swan from another, she figured.

Brigid sighs as she tosses the comms away.

"Well, stealth's out of the question now. Let's just break in and get out as fast as we can."
May 22, 2022 2:43 pm
"I guess the bird's out of the cage." They couldn't just leave Black Swan, for that would just mean an enemy behind their backs. Tentacular gave Black Swan's neck a tight squeeze as his wrapped tentacle could manage, not enough to kill them but enough to asphyxiate them long enough to put them out of commission. "Let's go quick."

Your captive wheezes like a baloon deflating and you rush the building. At least now you don't have to worry about finding strategic routes.

Right as you approach the staircase you're blasted with a flash of near-blinding light. You lose your footing - are those caltrops on the ground? Those are almost as bad as stepping on a Lego!
OOC:
Everyone please roll Fine Motor to resist tripping and injuring yourself, and a roll of your choice to resist the blinding light.
You hear the voice from the Black Swan's comm, this time before you. Those of you who shielded your eyes are able to make out a shock of red curls and a pristine lab coat. Quantum Gal stands with her back facing you, but she threatens you nonetheless, orbs of flame-like light swirling around her hands in anticipation.

"Hey don't you turn your back on us, girl, gal, grrl!" Tentacular had charged forward towards the staircase only to encounter both the caltrops on the ground and the potentially blinding orbs of Quantum Girl. His body instinctively went into nimble mode, sucker arms attaching themselves to the wall so as not to tread on the floor, twisting his head around to mimic Quantum Girl's position in case the orbs blew up in his face, all the while readying himself to swing forward towards her.

Tentacular leaps into the air, clinging to the walls in a strange yet surprisingly defensive posture, even managing to avoid smacking the Black Swan against the wall. MaCavity's catlike reflexes save her the trouble of the attack as well.

But when ElectroLite tries to attract the caltrops out of the way as you run, he's surprised to realize these aren't metal. Light has the correct kind of signature, but it's not what he planned for. As a result, he trips and falls to the ground, barely managing to avoid injury as the light blinds him. Riven has a similar problem when she attempts to use her telekinesis on the trap.

Terminal slides on the tripping hazards but is able to use her momentum to shield her eyes and scoop up some of the tiny objects. They're light, and warm, and sharp. The unexpected feeling of the caltrops means she mis-judges her throw and they clatter around Quantum Gal's feet.

"You're helping us see the light?" Tentacular quipped in response to Quantum Gal's plea to have them leave. "We told the Swan, and we're telling you we don't want to hurt anyone either, just get out of our way." This time Tentacular needed all four of his appendages, one to continue to stick to the wall, two to wrap around his downed teammates, and the fourth he used as if it were a bat and, taking a leaf from Terminal's earlier action, Tentacular attempted to swat the balls of light back at Quantum Girl.

Seeing that he managed to swat the orbs, he then flung the unconscious bodies of Riven and Electrolite at Quantum Girl!
OOC:
Using Brute Force to muscle through QG's attack, followed by his own attack using Habit: Do multiple things at the same time. Would Tentacular get two attacks for his Habit, and possibly have two instances to do damage (modified by +2 for standard superpower? Just adding a bunch of rolls first.)
(I realise I made the mistake of using the advantage die roll which actually crosses out a successful roll argh, sorry!)

ElectroLite slams into Quantum Gal, knocking her off her feet. Riven follows immediately, knocking the enemy out.

The hall is quiet, but your allies and your adversary are in bad shape.
OOC:
As in, by my hand-waving "fix the system" math, EL is 2 points from death and Riven is still unconscious. Quantum Gal can also be reasonably assumed dead if you leave her here. Now, I don't intend to kill anyone in episode 1 because this *is* supposed to be on the comedic side, but that's the frame of reference.

"See, I could've tossed you instead." Tentacular gave Black Swan a good shake on the shoulders, as if to convince them of his sincerity. "Now I'm gonna let you check on flashy grrl there so she doesn't, I don't know, follow the light. Can you do that without my having to chase you down again?"

To the others, "Best attend to our teammates quickly, there's one more obstacle up ahead, so we've been told."

Tentacular will attempt to stabilise Riven and Electrolite, possibly pulling them aside to a safer spot out of the way if there's one.

No, no, I quite understand your point.

The Black Swan waddles off to Quantum Gal. He meticulously examines her, applies pressure to one of the worst future-bruises, and smacks her across the face.

Guh! Ahhhhhhhgh.......Art? I thought they caught you.

Hwraaaaaaaaaaank.

Yep. You too. They don't pay me enough for this nonsense.

Heh. I guess I've never been able to be picky.

Hwrank. Hwra-ank.

Be picky. Just look at them.
Jun 15, 2022 10:40 pm

That said, Brigid checks up on her unconscious teammates. Though her suit was mainly designed for her own health, she could probably repurpose some of the medical bits to do something to help.

"They definitely don't pay you enough for this." Tentacular addressed Black Swan and Quantum Gal while Terminal attended to their own teammates. "If it's any consolation, it's two for two, so I figure we're even. I don't need murder on my rap sheet, so I'm gonna give you my number so you can call me next time and maybe work for the winning side, but for now just stay out of our way." Tentacular waited for them to agree and leave.
Jun 16, 2022 6:26 pm
OOC:
It's all one scenario of medical care, so I'll say that passes for both. If my math is correct Riven is up and EL is still wounded, but up as well. Nice call, Terminal
Quantum Gal takes off her goggles and rubs the super-smudges off.

That sounds good. Swan, you think we should at least make it look like we tried harder so the boss doesn't get mad?

He replies with a hand held to cut her off.

Hwrank, hwrank.

We're villains. Let's go.

And as soon as the strange encounters began, they're over. The building is eerily quiet now. Not even the sound of the HVAC system reaches you.
Jun 17, 2022 2:00 am
After the former defenders make their exit, Brigid yanks out the last of the wires from Electrolite's face, shoving them back into her power suit.

"Well, that's as good as it gets with what I got. Let's go."

She leads the way to the office.

*click*

As electro-pop music begins to play.

Not gonna lie, I've been itching to use this playlist.

The voice's owner claps, and like a bad 80's commercial, a few strategically dimmed lights click on. You identify the outline of a retro boom box, and a ridiculously muscular man in what can only be described as a fur cape. Judging from his tight knee-length shorts and his horned luchador mask......well, frankly, going by "The Ox" was enough of an indicator he'd be a brute-force villain.

So you guys got a catch phrase? Fighting formation? I respect pre-fight theatrics.
Jun 18, 2022 4:58 am
Brigid flips the light switch, illuminating the office and completely ruining the effects of Ox's setup.

"What's the point of theatrics if nobody's watching?"
OOC:
Could I Follow My Heart to knock out Ox with a bullrush? I'm not quite sure how Follow My Heart works.
Jun 18, 2022 11:56 am
OOC:
Do iiiiiiiiiiiiit. I'll say your "cost" is your suit overheats and you'll need to sit out one narrative round after completing this.
So go ahead and roll Brute and any habits that apply. As long as the roll doesn't shatter it'll work, but we'll sort out details when we see the results.
Jun 18, 2022 1:46 pm
"Bullrush was it? Cowabunga? Leather Lactose?" Tentacular kept an eye on the safe to judge the distance between himself and the Ox, and wondered if the brute could move faster than he seemed versus his own multiple appendages. He instinctively reverted to his inane patter even as he saw his teammate make her move.
OOC:
I'll let Terminal resolve their action first before I declare mne? Essentially Tentacular will make a break for the safe.
Jun 18, 2022 4:28 pm
"How about bull-dozer!"

Brigid leaps forward and rams into the Ox's torso, sending him flying.

"Get it? Because I knocked him out."

I almost regret doing that, because I have a lot of cow puns on hand.

Hey, I worked hard on - HRK!

The Ox's offense at his underappreciated theatrics is cut short by Terminal's charge. He topples backwards and knocks his head on the boom box, clicking it off before it crashes to the floor next to him.

Looks like I underestimated......yoooOOOOooooou. He flashes a cheesy smile as he lows. Best move quick, though. This fight isn't over yet.

It certainly seems over. He's not making any moves to reengage.

Then again....

Maybe it's the bad nostalgia, or the smell of leather polish used far too plentifully, but you're starting to feel a little lightheaded.
OOC:
No rolls needed to break into the safe and take the files, but I will need rolls to keep thinking clearly. Brute Force is a good baseline to power through, but if you can justify something else go ahead. The Ox did take damage, but I'm keeping that behind the screen.
Jun 20, 2022 2:21 am
OOC:
Turns out carrying around your own medical suite is pretty useful.
Huh, did I push myself too hard? Brigid digs around her suit's medical equipment and pulls out an oxygen mask, hoping that it would help deal with the warm and fuzzy feeling that she was feeling. Didn't help that the suit was actually now warm to the touch.

"Sorry guys, I gotta take a second here."

She puts it on and takes a few deep breaths.

Oof. Terminal, since that's shattered, take 4 damage and roll disadvantage until this is resolved. Tentacular, take 2. Next time you're up in the cycle you can attempt to take the files OR figure out what's going on (but no disadvantage). Basically, even with 4 arms you're now limited to one action at a time.

As other folks add their rolls, you can edit to include a response. If you shatter, same as Terminal. If you simply fail, same as Tentacular. If you succeed or get Perfection, I'll let ya know what happens ;)

"Knotty, very knotty." For some reason his tentacles kept getting entangled as Tentacular attempted to open the safe to reach for the files within.

Tentacular, you can scoop everything up, but your head's going all fuzzy. Your lips feel numb and when you glance over to Terminal, you see hers are blue. Terminal, you feel much the same. Even with your suit, it's hard to move fluidly.

ElectroLite and Riven are unaffected for the moment. The magnet-man sees the safe door swinging lazily while Tentacular tries to gather the goods, so he pulls it open from a distance.

You good, Long-Arms?

Riven heads to The Ox to try to restrain him. He glances at her bust then grins.

You look like the strong one in the group. Shame. This would've been fun.

She stomps on his leg and uses her powers to twist his fur cape around his hands.

Shut up, pig.

The Ox rolls his eyes, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

Oh noooooo. My ankle. Ow.

Khaki and Dream, I'll keep the NPC'ing to a minimum. Thanks for understanding. I know y'all are busy.

Everyone, I need another Brute save, with disadvantage if you failed before. If you fail again, take 6 damage. If you succeed this time and failed before, only take 2.

Edited to add Riven is now at 4 health and EL is at 2. They now roll disadvantage.

Sorry June.
Despite MaCavity's best efforts, she succumbs to the atmosphere in the room. The rest of you can't tell where she goes, but in your asphixiating stupor, you almost think you hear a cat groan.

"Well I need to catch my breath, catch the files, but I feel like I'm catching ... something." He could see half of them were succumbing to whatever effects the room had on them. He wasn't confident he'd be able to manage himself; those tentacles were getting very rubbery, and he felt he could only move one at a time, enough to grab the files and head back out for air to clear his head, but maybe not enough to pull his teammates to safety...
OOC:
Whew I think I made that save.

No point surviving if they didn't complete the mission. Tentacular was still all arms and legs to be able to pull off the polydextrous pirouette of the earlier firefight. He didn't trust himself to both retrieve the cat and the files and still stay conscious, so off he swung, documents tightly suction cupped together, until he exited the room to try to regain some sort of capacity again, and to pause to see if the others could safely pull out as well.

Fighting off the lack of oxygen, Brigid walks to where the balcony is, and opens the door, providing ample ventilation throughout the office.
Jun 29, 2022 4:06 pm
The ox grins and mutters at Terminal.

You're not as dumb as you look.

He sighs and stretches, knocking Riven over as he stands. A kitty, an octopus, a tank, and a couple robots. The question now is, will you fight or fly?
Jun 30, 2022 2:14 am
With Terminal brilliantly solving what was afflicting them all, Tentacular could now duck his head back in. "You don't need to breathe!" He slapped a tentacle on his own forehead in realisation, leaving a momentary sucker-shaped welt. "What about food Buffalo Bull? Chew the cud? Don't need meat? Vegan! Or was that your own dizzy gas knocking us out? Ruminant!" Tentacular resumed his trademark patter while he observed to see if the three of them stood a good chance of taking the Ox down, or whether they ought to be making their getaway, now that they had the files.
OOC:
So, real question for all, fight or flight? Assuming both are possible GM?
Jun 30, 2022 3:15 am
OOC:
We finished all of our objectives, right? So either should be fine, considering Terminal already knocked the Ox down once. If we do fight, someone else will have to take the lead, since the power suit is still toasty.
Jun 30, 2022 1:37 pm
OOC:
I can do either. Weirdly enough, the Ox seems perfectly content to let you make the choice. Considering the folks who have damage, I'd suggest fly for now. But again, either way works. I promise I will not TPK in episode 1.
Jun 30, 2022 5:29 pm
Terminal pouts a bit at the unsubtle slight towards her.

"Geez, you have an awful personality. Were you raised in a barn? Anyways, we're going now. See ya."
Jul 1, 2022 2:19 am
The Ox leans back on the desk and waggles his fingers.

Toodle moo.

Leaving is....weirdly easy. You have the hard drive, the documents, and the password booklet for Grady's cloud storage - if he's even bothered uploading anything. It would be too easy to prove he'd stolen the information that way, so you may luck out.

You were told to lay low until the next night so you look more like third-shift workers. You get back to the car without further incident. Now you just have to decide where to go.
Jul 1, 2022 2:03 pm
"Now that was weird." Tentacular spoke up when they were back in the car. "The room was set up to knock us out. Black Swan and Quantum Gal when trying to take us out, but the Ox did nothing. Doesn't seem right."

"Think they'll send people after us? Or maybe there's a tracker in here?" He handed the hard drive over to Terminal to inspect. "Can they even guess who employed us to do the job?" Tentacular make sure not to mention the name of their employer in case there was a homing or eavesdropping device.
Jul 1, 2022 9:17 pm
jumps on his shoulder and meows before curling up on the seat.
Jul 1, 2022 10:29 pm
Brigid sits in the truck bed, with the rear window opened so she could reach inside.

"I'd say the Ox probably wasn't feeling as confident as he was acting after I hit him the first time."

Brigid takes the hard drive and looks it over briefly, not really expecting to find anything.

"Anyways, they can probably guess who our employer is, but they probably can't do anything about it even if they know."

Seeing June, Brigid puts the hard drive on her head, balancing it.

"By the way, this is June, right? I'm not sure if I was seeing things earlier or not."
Jul 2, 2022 4:16 pm
"Oh I thought you were going to do some techy stuff to it." Tentacular gave his appendages a little finger-like wriggle. "Well then, nothing to do till tomorrow. We don't have a safehouse to retreat to, and I feel that someone gonna come after us. But that's just me, over cautious - " He paused since no one was listening to him, Terminal clearly in communication with the cat who was clearly communicating back.

"Oh, that's what you wanted me to do."

Brigid catches the hard drive that fell off because of June's nodding. Though Brigid is bursting with questions to ask about June's power, she remembers that a cat probably won't have the language to answer them adequately. So she just sticks to tweaking June's ears while opening up the hard drive with her tools to check for anything that's not supposed to be in a hard drive.

"Yeah, we need a place to stay for the night. Ideas?"
Jul 2, 2022 11:40 pm
"Maybe our flexible felicitious feline has some ideas. Mech-sized kitty box? Squid bowl?"

"Well, I don't fancy splitting up and going home with these until we meet again tonight. We can stay here. I don't mean here here, as in the location. I meant in the car. Drive out of the city, grab a quick bite and a shower at a motel, then back again to the yachts to see Gennison. That should be inconspicuous enough."
Jul 4, 2022 5:26 pm
"As inconspicuous as we can be."

After all, not a single person in here was particularly trying not to stand out with their appearance, with whatever costume and dangly bits they have on them.
Jul 7, 2022 5:24 pm
Luckily, there's a shady motel on the edge of town.

Actually, it's not shady at all. Some rendezvous locations thrive on shadow. This one just blinds prying eyes with tacky neon lights. You hear at least three separate poorly-balanced mix-tapes; one with too much bass, one with crackling treble, and the third sounds like Tibetan throat singing, but to each their own, you suppose. It's all certainly better than hearing what's going on in those rooms. It does seem clean. You'll give the owners that much.

The pallid night attendant appears to be using this job to fund his mediocre streaming channel. You step up to the counter and he pauses his game.

Welcome to the Screaming Stiletto, what can I do for.......

He catches a glimpse of your costumes and concern flashes briefly across his face.

We've only got like three rooms left. But I'm guessing that's not a problem?
Jul 7, 2022 5:27 pm
"Yeah....no.....I'll catch you all later."

Riven, having reached her "ridiculous" threshold, flies off, presumably to meet up tomorrow night.

Fam...? Family! Yes! Nightly rate's $50 for what we've got left. Hey, I dig the costumes. I miss an "ugly supers" contest or something?
Jul 8, 2022 3:40 am
Brigid takes a moment to make a small dig back at the night attendant.

"I like the whole look you have going on too. Suits the place. We'll take two rooms, please."
Jul 8, 2022 5:08 am
Tentacular was about to rebut to call out who he really thought was ugly, but didn't want to piss off the attendant just yet. "You could join too!" was all he permitted himself to let out.
Jul 8, 2022 12:06 pm
The attendant's face flashes red and he quickly processes your request. Each room has a full bed and satin sheets. Well, maybe a polyester blend. But still. You're finally buffered from some of the blasting music.
Jul 8, 2022 6:45 pm
I'm still not sure i like how that ended.
Jul 9, 2022 6:17 pm
Brigid shrugs nonchalantly as she dismounts her power suit.

"Ehh, we got the rooms, he gets to continue his stream. I'm going to work on my suit a bit, so you can go ahead and sleep first."

That said, Brigid takes out a toolbox from the power suit, and begins doing some basic maintenance on it. When she's done, she'll try and hide the hard drive under one of the panels. If someone tried to get to it, they'd have to deal with her first.
OOC:
How do we get to heal the damage done during the fight?
Jul 9, 2022 8:26 pm
OOC:
Go ahead and update your characters to milestone 1! Health should now be your Power die (4 or 6) plus your Brute Force score. You "heal" the Brute value automatically as part of the milestone since you're not in the middle of something.

To heal the rest, you get back 1 point per milestone, per 8 hours of rest. That means by the time you need to go back to Gennison's, you'll heal 2 without any checks (since he wants you there at the top of a "shift"). Heal checks of course can speed this up.

At Milestone 1, here are your options. Pick 1.

Resist

Every Milestone, you may choose to take one point of Resist, up to 5 (unless the GM approves a special circumstance). This means you will ignore the first point(s) of damage you are dealt in any given attack.

Mental Shift

At any Milestone, instead of Resist, you may change your actual score in one scale, provided it makes sense in the story. "Follow Your Heart" and "An Act of Desperation" can help determine this, but these are not required.

A score can never be changed to the extreme of a given scale.

"Neither do I, but let's sleep on that first and talk about it after. Over some bacon and eggs preferably. Still, be on our guard, in case anyone wants to try anything funny. Two rooms ay? Who's bunking in with me? If so, don't trip over these when you go to the bathroom. They tend to entangle themselves all over the floor when I'm asleep."

Jul 18, 2022 1:19 pm
You quickly realize why the hotel has such cheap rates. The rooms have flyers advertising "personalizations" worth a small fortune. Luckily, you're just here for the beds and to lay low.

In the morning, you wake to the smell of greasy hangover food in the buffet trays in the lobby. Lunch is a combination of vending machine snacks. Hopefully after you make your delivery, you can go get a real late night dinner somewhere.

The receptionist greets you as she did the night before - Callie, you recal, was how Gennison addressed her. This time, however, you don't have to wait as long, and you're ushered into Gennison's office. He takes the materials and checks them over swiftly. He leans back and clasps his hands.

Fan-tas-tic! I love it! Everything's here! I'll have my techs scan the cloud and we'll be golden. Drinks!

He hops over to the liquor cart and mixes something distinctly tropical, and strong.

Phoenixes. A classic. My sister grows the pomegranites in her conservatory. Ah, ha ha I knew I had the right folks for the job.

He gestures you to sit in the leather chairs, each of which, you notice, has a thick manilla envelope on the seat.

So, how'd it go? Learn anything about those other supers? Any epic battles?
Jul 19, 2022 12:16 am
"It went pretty good! A bit dicey at times, but we got the job done."

That said, Brigid takes the manila envelope and opens it, looking inside at its contents.
Jul 19, 2022 12:28 am
Count 'em if you like, but it's all there. Gennison pours himself another drink. Five grand a piece in crisp, clean Jacksons. Figured they'd spend easiest. This may be the fastest I've spent this much, but I'll be damned if it wasn't worth it.

He drains his glass and sighs contentedly. Those other supers. Are they still around? I haven't caught wind of anything that'd need damage control, but I'd hate to be surprised.
Jul 19, 2022 3:05 am
Now that they were all in Gennison's office and the materials were handed over and paid for, Tentacular allowed himself to be less cautious. Job done, time for a drink or two! He didn't hesitate on invitation to pour himself two tentacles worth of booze from the cart.

"We met three of them, Black Swan, Quantum Girl, and the Ox. Sure they're still around, don't think the job was to get rid of them. Unless you want to hire us to do that as well, are you?"
Jul 19, 2022 11:16 am
Im not killing anyone. thats my line
Jul 19, 2022 12:15 pm
Not at all! Killing is messy. And in most cultures unethical. He chuckles at his own joke. I was just wondering if any of you got a nemesis. See, you've shown you can work quickly behind the scenes. I've got another job for you next week that'll test your stamina in a front-facing setting. He opens a drawer in his desk and shuffles around.

Course, I think it's more fun to test stamina behind the scenes. Ugh, this guy. Did he just wink?

It'd be the same pay as this one. $500 up front, $5,000 on completion. But if this goes well too, there's a long term contract option at the end.
Jul 19, 2022 4:21 pm
June nods. contract. publicity, all good.
Jul 19, 2022 11:41 pm
"Oh, ah, about that nemesis." Tentacular's appendages gave a little abrupt wiggle, now needing two tentacles to steady each tumbler of drink. "I may, um, need to take care of that end of the business for a while." His answer was evasive, but he seemed clear that there were some things he implied he was in trouble with. "These greenbacks will come in handy for that, I'll be back for more, but I'll have to pass on the next job."
Jul 19, 2022 11:53 pm
Gennison nods.

Business is business. A couple supers approached me this afternoon, actually. Said you were a reference. Always a class act, Mr. Tacular, even when taking your leave. I am honored to be a small chapter in your comic history.

He shakes your hand.....er.....tentacles...... and the receptionist escorts you out the maze of a building.

Gennison closes the door again and sighs. Well, judging from your attendance, I'm guessing we've lost Ms. Riven as well. Win some lose some. Part of why I wanted your opinion on the supers you met is because Quantum Gal and the Black Swan got a hold of my number. He chuckles. They said the Ox was an insufferable dick and my competitor doesn't pay well. But of course I'll take your feedback on whether they'd be useful.
Jul 20, 2022 3:28 pm
Brigid shrugs.

"Sure, as long as they don't get in my way."
Jul 20, 2022 9:02 pm
I can't imagine they would. It'll be quite the party. Ah! Here it is.

He drops a thick white card on the table. Its corners are gilded and you can tell the caligraphy was done by hand.

My kid sister's getting married next Saturday. I plan on making the most of Father's open bar, but I can't leave her completely unguarded. She's quite the looker. Got the best of the Gennison genes. And her ex's fraternity is not thrilled that she's tying the knot with a rival.
Jul 20, 2022 9:28 pm
so guard duty.....is there anything...special about these frat boys?
Jul 20, 2022 10:55 pm
Brigid can't help but be a tiny bit disappointed by how...personal the job was.

"...Yeah, a bunch of sore losers doesn't seem like something you would need a team of supers for."
Jul 21, 2022 1:56 am
Gennison smirks.

She's marrying Bonfire. Maybe a.....hm, say C level hero? Could've made the big leagues but he had too much moral gray and not enough edgelord to sell comics. He was known for making sure dumb kids got home from parties safe. Beat up his fair share of horn-dogs who couldn't take the hint. But he was also the one who provided locations and booze. Like I said. It'll be quite the party.

Apparently deciding the "phoenix" cocktails weren't strong enough, he switches back to straight scotch, pouring himself a triple as if it's meant to last him all night. You know it won't.

Agnes has always had a soft spot for supers. But Billy's looking to live a quiet life with his bride, his trust fund, and his microbrewery. So if a bunch of pissed off pledges show up, they could out him. Especially since Jack Martin, Aggie's ex? has crossed paths with Bonfire before.
Jul 23, 2022 3:18 am
Brigid couldn't exactly say she understood. Throwing wild parties is far from a moral failing, and there didn't seem to be much to "out" in the first place if this Agnes character was into supers. But she's not really here to judge others.

"I can't say I get the thought process there, but whatever, we're there to do security. Do the frat boys have powers?"
Jul 25, 2022 6:23 pm
Not sure. So, Billy - ah, William, is part of Beta Epsilon Tau. Jack's from Delta Tau Chi. Just in case you see folks flashing Greek.

He scribbles "BET" and then a triangle followed by "TX"
Jul 27, 2022 10:31 pm
Brigid appreciated the knowledge. That way, she knew who to punch.

"Alright, is that it? A see you next week sort of deal?"
Jul 28, 2022 11:10 am
I feel like you're not telling us something
Jul 28, 2022 2:50 pm
Gennison cracks an awkward smile.

Heh. Well.....Jack's my fraternity brother. And I did date his sister for a while. He looks at the rest of you. Oh! You mean things about supers and the party. Yeah, so, I can't confirm it, but there's a chance he's gonna call in a favor from the Ox.
Jul 28, 2022 3:20 pm
Brigid frowns.

"Is the wedding going to be an open air venue?"
Jul 28, 2022 8:32 pm
Most of it. The bar's inside.
Jul 29, 2022 1:18 am
"Well, we should be fine then. He's a bit of a blowhard anyways."
Jul 29, 2022 8:17 pm
If we buy him a drink hed probably be on our side
Jul 29, 2022 9:57 pm
Brigid gives a wry smile.

"Might be hard to do that with an open bar, Macavity."
Aug 1, 2022 2:49 am
Gennison chuckles at your observations.

Sounds like you've got this under control!
OOC:
About a week later....
You knew a wedding for a yacht tycoon's only daughter would be a big deal, but....wow. There are small countries with GDPs lower than what this must have cost. The flowers are exquisite, the hors d'oeuvres are tiny but plentiful, and the bottom shelf in the bar is mostly brands you don't recognize. The wedding itself was largely uneventful. The string orchestra even managed to make "Pachebell's Canon in D" tolerable. But Gennison (who is pleasantly buzzed on his eighth mixed drink) did warn you that the reception would be a bigger target.

So you get to stand aroundin black-tie variations of your costumes, snacking on finger food that costs more than a gallon of gas a bite, watching for trouble as a trust fund baby twirls around the dance floor in an (admittedly stunning) bejeweled mermaid-cut gown.
OOC:
Feel free to offer perspective and a game plan if y'all have one.
Aug 3, 2022 11:48 pm
For her part, Brigid sees this as an opportunity to make some useful connections. If she can, she'll try to get some pointers from Gennison as to who to talk to. If not, she'll try and go with her intuition.
Aug 6, 2022 9:48 pm
Babe, doesn't she look like Dan's patient?

You look to the source of the voice, a man with a lady in turquoise draped on his arm. His tux is understated, but you can tell it's expensive. The woman scoffs.

Gerald, you can't assume every thin girl in a mech suit is someone my ex knew. She looks at you and smirks. Wouldn't it be hysterical, though?

He smiles and walks over, extending a hand to shake. Gerald Aberdeen. Aberdeen Motors. Nice rig you've got there. What kind of hydraulics do you use?
Aug 7, 2022 3:44 am
Brigid takes the handshake graciously.

"Brigid O'Hickey. Independent contractor. The hydraulics are something of my own design. Started from car hydraulics."

Quietly takes a position either on low roof top or in a corner, keeping her eyes alert
Aug 25, 2022 12:03 am
Gerald raises an eyebrow at his date and smirks.

Wonderful work, miss. If you ever need some quick cash or some repairs, I've got a patent office and an extensive garage.....

Meanwhile, up on the roof, June perhaps makes herself too scarce.

Fraaaaaaankieeeeeeee! Stop iiiiit! You hear giggling and rushing feet as a young couple tries to find an...ahem...private space. It's not even dark yeeeeeet!

Lighten up, Buttercup, a male voice teases. This makes it more fun. Besides. Jack needs me at dusk.

The woman pauses to pout. It's clear she's only half-joking. What about "Ladies First?"

That's why we're here now, Chrissy. Ladies first!

He begins kissing her, but she's not particularly interested.

Come on, Frankie, my Sisters and I keep in touch for job interviews and stuff. We don't go crashing weddings. Am I always gonna come second to those Delta boys?

This could get ugly. At least you know when the disruption is planned.
Aug 25, 2022 4:29 am
"Sounds interesting, I'll keep that in mind. Here's my business card."

Brigid pulls out one of 50 business cards that she had printed days before just for the occasion. Because exchanging business cards like they're handshakes is something adults do, right?
