OOC:
Are you thinking you want to abandon the trip to the basement for now and look for the location on the map?

OOC:
Purely from a metagaming perspective, I’d like to be level 2. :D

I vote we either delve deeper or go back to town. We have the map to the gnolls now, we can go next time! Narratively, Spugnoir must prefer the moat, too.

"Er... While I am curious to see what else we might discover at these trees located on the map, besides Eltrezar's dagger of course, and assuming this is the location in question, I must say, we've already a good bit of luck in these ruins already and we've bare;y stepped through the front gates. My vote is to remain here, though I suppose I could be persuaded to attend if you opt to leave and search for these trees."

"Well… we’re here now. No sense in just doing half a job. But… should we hide the treasure away again before we go down? We can’t carry it. And we can’t leave it sitting in the cart."

She doesn’t look at anyone as she asks, but her thoughts turn to the mute man.

Ora felt odd at the thought of intruding on the deliberations. There was history in this place, for them at least. She wouldn’t say one way or the other.

The gnolls were ever present in her mind, but the scrolls to dispatch the gnolls may lay in this place.

"Good thinking Gilly, why don't you hide the stash while we wait and then we can all go down together. We keep our expedition short, things have changed here and we just need to know what. After we take our measure of the place we head back to town and reassess."
Apr 29, 2022 4:45 pm
Eltrezar's hand strays to the empty spot in his belt, and you can almost seem a frown from underneath his beard. But he shrugs and starts moving back into formation.
Apr 29, 2022 4:46 pm
Luban scurries back to the front, ready to dive in. Where they went made little difference to him, though his skills would be of more use in the ruins than in the wilderness.

Gilly spends a few moments to hide the loot. She purposely doubles back, makes excessive noise in one room and then another, before finally settling on the nest where she had almost met her end a few days precious.

Just enough to give them a moment or two to get back up here, should the group notice that the hired help has suddenly gone missing.

OOC:
I assume the treasure is being kept in the room with the Giant Snake? Correct me if I'm wrong.
After Gilly stashes the bundle of coins and gems, the party gets back in marching order and continues on their way through the uppermost floor of the ruins, arriving at the storage room that leads to the basement.

Descending the stairs, they see that little has changed since their last delve into this dungeon level. The armories to their immediate left remain emptied... Spugnoir pulls off his backpack and removes a torch, as does the Man-at-Arms.

As no torches are needed for the dwarves, Mal and Thurig lead the party back towards the ladder that led them down into the crypt.

Luban walks with the dwarves, his own kin not needing torches either. His bow is held at the ready. As he walks, he also takes in his surroundings in case the thief has to make a quick getaway.

Gilly and Ora will crowd around the two lights already in use.

Mal and Thurig move to the front of the marching order, in order to make use of their keen, 60' Infravision, should the torches behind them fail. They pass through the corridor of cells and Thurig, Ora, and Lubash Luban see the bodies of a dozen desiccated corpses laying about, the fresh wounds and newly fletched arrows sticking out of them standing in contrast how long they appear to have been dead.
Entering the next chamber, the newcomers find themselves in the midst of a room that was clearly designed with aggressive interrogation in mind. Amidst the dust and cobwebs, are various instruments of extracting information. Skeletons, some more fresh looking than others, lay chained to tables and shackled to standing racks.
Mal leads them on through, and to Ora, Lubash Luban, and Thurig, she seems to stop and stand before a plain-looking pillar on the south end of the room.

"This must be the ladderwell Gilly talked about. Was it really that bad, Mistress Stoneforge?" Luban (not to be confused with Lubash) looks around for the secret door that he had been told about.
May 2, 2022 9:54 pm
A harumph can be heard from Eltrezar as he looks around at all the bodies still laying in place. He really ought to get the hired help to clean the place, perhaps the next time they rest in this gods-forsaken pit.

"Yes" is the dwarf's monosyllabic reply.

Mal and Thurig both search the door for any traps that may have been set since their last visit.

Trying to recall where we might need to go to advance! I think Gilly and Mal went down to the ghoul pit and found it a dead end. Did we?

Was there another door after the ogre pit? Something that was all barred up? I can’t recall. Or was that the door that we entered to get to the ogre pit?

OOC:
I think there was further to go in the ghoul pit

As the dwarfs begin their search of the door, Luban retrieves the potion he had acquired from the wizard. Popping the cork off, he makes the mistake of tasting it before quaffing the rest. Rookie move.
OOC:
Luban drinks a potion of Detect Danger.
