✅ Story & Pitch:
Slivers of humanity survive the Apocalypse. In the Ark, a small settlement at the edge of a dead city, the People live. You are the spawn of humanity, but not quite human. You are twisted funhouse images, mutated freaks. Your bodies and minds have incredible powers, but you are unstable. Fragile.
Food is running scarce, and the fight for what’s left is turning violent. You starve. Factions are forming, and the Elder can’t stand up on his own anymore.
It’s time to venture out. To explore the Zone, to search for artifacts and knowledge. Build, grow the land, seek out others, create a new civilization on the ruins of the old one
Welcome to Mutant: Year Zero. In this roleplaying game you play mutated human beings in a fallen world. On your shoulders rests the greatest responsibility of all: to save the last glimmer of human civilization from total annihilation.
✅ The Meta:
Mutant: Year Zero puts players in the role of one of the "people," young mutants who grew up in a crumbling "ark" under the supervision of The Elder. But the elder is failing in health, The People can't have children, and the provides less and less safety each passing year. With their world falling apart, these young mutants find themselves having to abandon the old ways of doing things, venture out into the rot soaked zone, and find a way to kickstart their civilization before it's too late.
The meta is heavy on social interaction to get things, building to improve the Ark, and semi-hex crawl play to explore the zone.
The Mutant setting spans several micro-settings that use different character generation and themes, all laid out in a sort of chronological order. I intend to go through all of them, but Year Zero and The People is that starting point!
✅ The Game System and Rules Version:
This game uses the Mutant: Year Zero ruleset (3rd Printing)!
✅ Adult Content or Controversial Themes:
Game includes violence (physical and gun), starvation, dehydration, irradiation, and other forms of death. There's also depictions of drug and alcohol use. The ruleset has a Role called Slave, though I'm perfectly happy not engaging that.
✅ Character Creation:
Players create their characters following Year Zero rules. No homebrew. The group is also asked to participate in some Ark planning pre-game, and setting up some important NPCs (Bosses mainly), which can be done in sub-forum. Most important is ensuring we're all working in the same tone!
I'm making character sheets, but I'm fine with folk only using them for the purposes of posting, and instead using personal, local sheets.
✅ About Me & Playstyle:
I'm dunko, I've been GM'ing TTRPG for awhile now, and I prefer games that are narrative and drama driven even when rules heavy!
I try to lean into transparency during play and give out information for the sake of clarity--I see a divide between player and character knowledge and prefer to trust it rather than hiding things from players. I think intent is important, so often ask outright questions ("What does PC hope to accomplish?" or "What is PC trying to get out of this?"). I like to communicate scene jumps OOC and do rewinds when needed because communication is imperfect and I don't want to hold a character accountable if stakes were not fully understood! Speaking of stakes, I try to be clear if they're high and prefer to set them before asking for a roll.
✅ Game Duration and Post Frequency:
I'm asking for 3 posts a week at a min--but I'm happy to engage as often as people post--I work from home, so I'm on my computer all day everyday.
Year Zero also supports oscillating between solo play and party play, and the system works with individual mutants working toward personal goals, on their own, sometimes. But of course, if a scene includes multiple characters we'll make sure everyone has had an opportunity to contribute.
In any event, this is an ongoing campaign and I intend to play as long as participants are interested.
✅ Specialized Software and Resources:
None.
✅ Player Experience Requirements:
None. It's a system with a small learning curve.
✅ How to Apply:
I'm looking for 4 plays max, but will play with 2 min. Apply here, or DM me.
This game is explicitly friendly to LGBT and any other minorities or marginalized groups.
