Chapter 2: Revelationist Mexico

René shook Vidar's hand. If he thought all the clambering around the rooftops was odd, he didn't show it.

"Oh, the woods, you notice it?" he asked rhetorically, but pleasantly surprised, as he got into the van's passenger seat. The nice thing about being resident navigator was not having to fight people off for the best seat. The bad thing was essentially everything else. It wasn't as if he was navigating them somewhere nice, like the French countryside. Whenever that had still been nice.

"I do not know how you call those woods in English. It is contamination-ed. I have never seen such a thing, not even in Europe. The Taint makes the woods bad, and probably it will make the whole Earth bad like this, given time. The animals, they change. So do the trees. It is like they grow faces. The water cannot be drinked there. You hear whispers near there, voices, bad t'ings..." René waved his hand, perishing the thought. "Bah! So we won't go there. Do not worry."

He turned his attention to directing Carter. Hopefully this crew did not explode like the last one - though he supposed the last team did have the good manners to do it quite far away from him.

"Seems like a good place to check out, but we should find out more about the nature of the contamination first." Vidar turned his music on but kept along with the conversation. "Maybe we can beat it out of the faith militant. I mean I'd like to ask them a few questions about the facility and if there are more of them. Maybe they've seen the snake too. Been wondering about the Cartel as well. In their shoes I'd want to take back what was stolen from me. Might be we find an ally in them, or an expendable partnership, not like to find an enemy though. Figuring, if you pardon the assumption, Dr. Avel knows how to get us in contact with them. Though I would differ to his expertise regarding that particular subject."
