Everything that keeps us alive out there is man-made. It’s a machine. Everything we touch, breathe, see, stand on, lie on, eat, and use is a tool designed to keep us moving and working. When it goes wrong, it’s usually fixable, replaceable, or patchable. When it goes really wrong, it can kill a lot of people. Yeah, to be honest, I was supposed to sugar coat that for you, and I kinda didn’t. Sorry.

When things go wrong, the suits upstairs want to know why. How did it happen? Why did it happen? Who was responsible? How can we stop this from happening again? Basically, they’ll want to get it fixed so that it doesn’t affect productivity, then point the finger at someone so that the company doesn’t have to accept liability.

Sigma Madelline is a Survey Outpost, cataloging that star system for resources. They are accompanied by three full-size starships – one cargo transport and two science vessels. And as of two weeks ago, all communication has ceased. The last report shows a disaster has occurred. We're not expecting any alive.

It's six months in the tube, then when you wake up, you need to find out what happened on Survey Outpost
Sigma Madelline. Get as much info as you can, fix what you can, and when there is nothing left to do, come home and report.

Having recently read the book, I'm interested in running this game for a short adventure.

The Game System and Rules Version: Those Dark Places is a rules-light, story-focused roleplaying game about the darker side of space exploration and the people who travel the stars in claustrophobic, dangerous conditions. Starships, stations, and outposts aren't havens of safety with clean, brightly lit corridors - they're potential deathtraps, funded by budget-conscious corporate interests and running on stale, recycled air and water. The stars may be the future of humanity, but they are also home to horrors and terror the human mind cannot comprehend.

The Pitch: A remote outpost has suffered a disaster. Your crew is sent to investigate, analyze, and repair the facilities. You've no idea what you'll face, and you'll be months away from reinforcements and help. Prepare for the best, expect the worst.

Adult Content or Controversial Themes: Expect violence, alcohol, offensive language. Some other mature themes may come up, as the nature of the game is in the dark orbit of horror.

Game Duration and Post Frequency: I would anticipate three to six months, and expected posting is once per day (during the week or including weekends will depend on the selected players).

Specialized Software and Resources: We will use Discord for our out-of-character communication. It will not be necessary to own the rulebook.

Player Experience Requirements: Anyone is welcome to apply!

How to Apply: Let me know if you want in to the game and I'll select after I have some applications. It's not going to be in order of application, so feel free to jump in late :) I'm looking for one or two more players.

All of my yes. This has been on my watchlist for a while. It ticks that peculiar Aliens-meets-Cthulhu box for me, and I've been trying to pester my IRL group to give this game a whirl to no avail. Would love to throw my hat in here, as I'd love a shot at actually getting to play it.

Thanks for posting your interest. I'm quite interested too, so I'm glad it's not just me, haha.

This does sound interesting. What's character creation like?

This game has been on my list, but only because of descriptions I've read, I don't know the rules. I'd be interested

I'm in, if you'll have me!

Interested too, please - I bought this rulebook and I think the system and mood of the game show great promise.

I'm interested. This is a genre that always captures my attention.

Having read the post, this sounds cool. I always love stories told from a 'regular' persons view (I prefer Han solo to luke, etc). If you are still looking, sign me up!

That's some great interest, thank you all. I'm tempted to take all of you even if that means running two games side by side. But how to arrange you?

Fetch the sorting hat!

I'll let this marinate until tonight (North American time) then invite those interested then.

Okay, I'm not sure how I want to proceed. I have three ideas:

1) Run the exact same adventure idea for two separate groups and see how they differ
2) Run the same set up for two separate groups, but vary the actual events of the game
3) Run one game, but early on, separate the PCs into two separate groups (with separate threads) exploring different aspects (for instance, maybe one exploring a planetary surface, and one exploring a space station or hulk)

What of the above options do you like? Public

Two games, same adventure
Two games, different adventure
One game, two separated groups

Two games, same adventure it is! (6 votes, 0 for option 2, 3 for the third as I type this.)

I'll send invites tonight and get you started on the 30 second character creation process.

Thanks for running these Qralloq!

Invitations have been sent out to the two separate games; I split you into a group of five and a group of 4.

For new users, if you click the Gamers Plane logo, it will take you to the main page and you will see the invitation near the top of the page.
