Character Creation

Basically, there are four stats (CHARISMA, AGILITY, STRENGTH and EDUCATION. C-A-S-E. A CASE file. Get it?), and you assign one each of 1,2,3 and 4 to those. Then you pick a Primary profession and a Secondary.

There are 7 crew positions: Helm Officer, Navigation Officer, Science Officer, Security Officer, Liaison Officer, Engineering Officer, Medical Officer. Your Primary crew position gives you a +2 and the secondary gives you a +1.

You'll want to cover all of the crew positions between you, so work together by announcing your choices in this thread.
Helm Officer
If you’re at home behind the wheel, then this position is for you. Choose the Helm Officer position to drive or pilot any kind of craft, from wheeled ground transports to starships.

Navigation Officer
Getting from point A to point B across the galaxy takes a long time, so it’d be nice to know that you’re heading in the correct direction. The Navigation Officer position teaches you directional awareness, as well as the technical know-how.

Science Officer
If there’s a problem concerning physics, biology, chemistry, or any other field, then the Science Officer steps up. From actual research to working out stellar anomalies, from interpreting data to making a hypothesis, this position can prove quite enlightening.

Security Officer
There’s always trouble out there, so having some combat skills is never a bad thing. Security Officers get a bonus every time they are involved in any kind of combat, from throwing punches to firing guns.

Liaison Officer
Some settlements seem to forget that they’re part of a larger entity, and they tend to develop a frontier mentality and ignore the rules. Then there are the problem suits, local officials who love to impede official enquiries, and store staff who might be trying to sucker you. Liaison Officers deal with the face-to-face diplomatic side of things.

Engineering Officer
At some point, things will break down and need repairing, replacing, or reprogramming. Engineering Officers have the glamorous job of tinkering with broken pipes, blocked air vents, and smoking computers.

Medical Officer
The importance of the Medical Officer cannot be understated. It’s dangerous out there, and anything from first aid to emergency surgery is performed in the deep dark black. In fact, in our experience, the Medical Officer is the most relied upon position for all vessels and stations.

I wouldn't mind Security Officer as primary and Engineering Officer as secondary.

so, is CASE in order of best to worst (1 is better than 4) or points in the stat(4 is better than 1)?

Also, I want to be Medical primary, and Liaison second if that's cool

Heyo! Thanks for having me aboard, Qralloq! I wish I could explain how much I've been wanting to open up this book, and the fact I'm getting a chance now is incredibly satisfying :D

Since we've got most bases covered, suppose I'll take up Helm Officer as Primary & Navigational Officer as Secondary. Someone's gotta fly these rustbuckets.

Higher is better, so a 4 is really good and a 1 is... less good than a 4, but better than a 0.

The CASE numbers, and the Primary/Secondary bonuses are modifiers to a D6 roll. TN to beat is generally 7.

Thanks for the invite.

I'll go for Engineering officer as primary, Helm officer secondary please. Fixes things, then drives them.

Awesome. I just submitted the character. Gonna make some art for him soon... Would it be a good idea to get the rules book? or is there a getting-started pdf out there?

Oh no! Hah. Am I going to have to be the Science Officer?? hah, this should be interesting.

I'll go for Science Officer as Primary and Medical Officer as Secondary if that's cool!

Hi there! Thanks for the invite to the game. On my character sheet I tried to check the first box for Science Officer and the second box for Medical officer. . .but, it keeps defaulting to the first box for Medical officer after I refresh the sheet. Am I doing somethting wrong there?

I had the same issue. I gave up trying to tick just one box per role and just clicked each box per +1 instead. So primary has both boxes checked for a +2, and secondary just one box for +1. At least this way I can scan my eyeballs and remember what to add when I look at Fry's sheet 😅

Ahhh. Ok. Good suggestion. I'll follow the trend. :)

Maybe that was the way it was intended all along. Hah. My bad.
