Since we are near the engineering, I will peak a look at any readouts that I can see. Are there any errors, alarms, etc. on the engine screens?

There are no alarms, but a few warnings. The power output level of the chain reactor seems to be below expected.

An Engineering Officer roll would be needed to diagnose what that means.

Sam sees the warnings on the monitor that Bentom is observing. He steps over. "Let's have a look at those warnings..."

He cycles through the warning flags, and check what each might be. He also looks at the chain reactor output values.

Sam can tell that the reactor is running on low power mode, not because it was set that way, but because the coolant intermix duplexing phase inverter isn't working. The reactor is barely functioning, and cranking it up to full power would likely cause it to fail and blow itself to smithereens. That is, if the safety systems didn't stop you. Checking those specific safety systems on a bunch, Sam can tell that they've been programmatically disabled, which is not an easy task.
Jun 24, 2022 7:56 am
"Jeez... whoever programmed the safety systems to keep the reactor on minimum power really know their stuff. Not trivial: we are looking at an expert, here..."

He tugs at his goat-beard, "but why would you intentionally get the reactor to the bare functionality?... I can't think of a valid reason."

Bentom will we watching Sam over his shoulder. "I think it best that we be wary of any crew if we find them, especially any crew who was assigned to the engineering department"

Agreed, until we can ascertain what actually happened, we need to be wary of any crewmembers. Deacon says as he stands guard while the others check the monitors.

What's your next move? Search the rest of the ship, or move onto the next closest one, the STS Ravana?
Jul 3, 2022 7:30 am
OOC:
next move would be to check the spacesuits still present on board (stored near the main airlock?) , and inspect the lifeboat for clues. Sam will check the position of both on the ship plans, then starts to lead towards the closest

The spacesuits are complete according to the inventory, and the lifeboat is also present and sealed up.

You haven't checked the crew quarters or the bridge, both located near the bow.
Jul 3, 2022 6:01 pm
OOC:
Can we get to the Bridge through the Crew Quarters?
Jul 4, 2022 11:01 pm
The crew quarters are basically near the bridge, but not attached to it. Picture the bridge the next door down the corridor.
Jul 4, 2022 11:11 pm
"Time to check the crew quarters, fellows... Bet we find them all quietly in bed, singing lullabies to each other..." he leads the way, taser kept handy in his hand and ready to stun...
Jul 4, 2022 11:16 pm
Deacon moves down the corridor staying beside Sam. As they approach the crew quarters, Deacon half expects a door to pop open.

When one of you opens the room, you immediately smell rot and decay. The putrid stench of something left out for necrotic bacteria to feast upon.
Jul 5, 2022 1:12 pm
Bentom will smell the putrid wave of air be released threw his mask before calling out "Quickly, Put your breathers back on Gentlemen! There may be a buildup of gasses in there, or worse." He will look over the others shoulders at the room, trying to get an idea of what awaits them in the dark confines room

You find the remains of three crewmen. Given your records, and with Teller's help, you identify them as two of the research scientists and one bridge officer from the Tranquility. Their wounds are horrific, and have long rotted until there is little remaining. Examining them in situ will take a difficult Medical Officer check (TN 8) to identify what was likely the cause of death. Getting them to the medical lab will render that check easy (TN 6).
Jul 7, 2022 5:39 pm
"It is a bit dark in here, but if we can get them back to zee lab I am sure I could run some test. How about it gentlemen? I doubt they died of old age, but without having a close look I am not sure what could be the cause". if the others are willing to help I will take them back in the lab, but if they are worried I will do the check here

Bentom can make a regular Medical Officer check in the infirmary, or a hard one in situ.
OOC:
@DreamWaffle and @sifu_g are both long afk. Just so you know it's down to the three of you.
Jul 8, 2022 6:49 am
He nods in agreement with Bentom, and puts on his respirator. "It makes sense to carry one of these poor souls in the infirmary, let's do it."

He helps the Med Off carry the body, a grim but necessary task.
