Down in the Depths

You are sure the portals are two-way? That we can pop in, and pop back out it they are not done fighting?
Kevin is itching to get underway, but that

Krinn says, "According to my interfacing with the machine, these portals are two-way.

"Shavarath won’t be bad for battle-hardened folks such as yourselves."

Kevin steps through the portal
Aug 27, 2022 9:00 pm
"This is the kind of legend that is worthy of the Mror Howlers!"

Gunnar gulps down another yard of ale from his everflowing tankard and dives through the portal with a grin.

Alin steps through the portal, intent on seeing what tricks the Traveler is throwing at the group. They immediately crouch on the other side and instinctively roll towards a shadow if there is an obvious source of cover.

With a grumble, the old druid also stepped through the portal.

You each step through the portal, and as you do, you seem to be spun in a circle, as if you were caught in a whirlpool. You spin, and as you spin, it is as if the surroundings stretch below you, until you don't see the cavern anymore. After about 20 seconds of this disorienting spinning, the spinning begins to coalesce, as you feel your weight shift from a weightlessness back to standing on solid ground. As the weight shifts, you each take one knee, and a loud sound emanates from your space, like that of a sonic boom.

You find yourselves in a somewhat ethereal place, and you all look at each other and see yourselves as translucent vestiges of yourselves. Your surroundings seem to be in the dim light of darkvision (grayscale colors), but you can see the distances as if it were day.

You are standing in a teleportation circle on the floor, which is located at the bottom of a 6-foot trench.

You peak out of the trench, and you see a network of trenches like this one, but whereas yours seems abandoned, those trenches hold angels, spectral conscripts, and sword wraiths, looking ahead at other trenches that house various demons, devils, other conscripts, and other sword wraiths. There are massive banners of either side and you see and hear enemy arrows, magic missiles, and other energy blasts zooming out around in your direction before you duck back down.

The trench leads in one direction (you're not sure which way is north yet), and then sort of veers, but in the distance you see a huge city, rivaling the size of Sharn, in that direction. Unlike Sharn, this city has been weathered and impacted by the war that rages outside of it.

After taking in all of this sensory information, you all notice Battlecat sniffing and paying attention to a strange coin on the ground (it is the size of a US quarter).

Kevin picks up the coin and hands it around to anyone curious. Afterwards, he pocketed it. If we are to find anything that could control this moons movement, it would be in a secure bunker or in the city. My guess it the city

Alin examines the coin and passes it back. "Ignoring, for now, the difficulties of trip across a battlefield, twice…how do do find our way back to this teleportation circle once we leave this trench? Do you have some finding magic to lead us back?"

Rolls

Religion - examine the coin - (1d20+4)

Psy bolstered knack - (1d8)

Those who hold the coin feel an ever-so-slight tug upward.

Each of you that handle the coin look up in the sky, and you see the moon Vult in the sky (about the half the size of Earth's moon in the sky), Eberron (a lush green and blue planet with a ring of asteroids and gaseous matter surrounding it, about the size of Earth's moon in the sky), but none of the other celestial bodies that you know should surround Eberron. And you see, pretty large in the sky, the strange celestial body in the sky (about twice the size of Earth's moon in the sky).

Alin does not glean anything religiously from the coin; on the back, though, is one of the signs of the Traveler.

You hear some strange resonance, emanating from Battlecat, almost like feedback from a radio, but it is the voice of Krynn.

Krinn
"Hey guys! Gan you hear me? You need to go the City of Knives. There is a vantage point that is high enough to get a good look at the celestial body.

"It's called the Tower of the Arcane."

The transmissions cuts out there.

As you travel through the trench, you see that the trenches have been dug in such a way that they connect to other trenches. You see the images of soldiers from various ages of your world, some wearing armors you recognize (but all spectral), and others wearing armors you have not seen in your lifetimes.

Commander Hearken

You come across a deva in the trenches, wearing resplendent armor. He looks at you all and says, "You are not from this world, are you? What are you doing here?"

We are going to the Arcane Tower in the City of Knives. We believe that there is a way for us to prevent this and other celestial bodies from colliding.

Can you help us?
Sep 5, 2022 12:46 am
Gunnar tries not to let his mouth hang open upon seeing the Deva. He kneels before the being, the way you might kneel in the presence of a monarch.
Sep 6, 2022 10:57 am
Alin takes a few steps closer to the being "As you have not already attacked us, you are no foe of ours. Shall we consider you friend or neutral in our short time here in this place?"

The druid opened his eyes wide at the sight of an actual angel. He'd cavorted with fey and even survived briefly meeting a deathly beautiful archfey but seeing a being from the higher planes was a first.

I'd love to get a feather, he thought.
