Road to Phandelver

In the city of Neverwinter, a dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker has asked you to bring a wagonload of provisions to the rough-and-tumble settlement of Phandalin, a couple of days' travel southeast of the city. Gundren was clearly excited and more than a little secretive about his reasons for the trip, saying only that he and his brothers had found "something big," and that he'd pay you ten gold pieces each for escorting his supplies safely to Barthen's Provisions, a trading post in Phandalin. He then set out ahead of you on horse, along with a warrior escort named Sildar Hallwinter, claiming he needed to arrive early to "take care of business".

It's early in the morning in Neverwinter and you find the wagon and its oxen team ready for departure.

Kai was up before the sun what to bring what to bring kai looked over his work desk. His eyes scanning all the herbs and poultices he had been working on. hopefully this would not be a long trip. illness and injury seem to plague neverwiter and not all could afford the healing that the clerics offered. after several minutes of collecting and packing he felt he was ready then his eyes drifted to the bed. Hidden under the bed was an old satchel from a life Kai wishes he could forget. Kai turned for the door but stopped KAI!the words seemed to scream in his mind a serpent may shed its scales but it can not change what it is. the final words of his master hit him like a blow staggering him. Again Kai looked to the hidden pack "I am what I am...". Kai walked out the door with his travilers pack strapped to his back a quarter staff in hand a short bow over his shoulder, and at his waist a small satchel That had not seen the light of day form many, many years.

Kai arrives at the wagon just as the sun breaks in to view. Gundren told him more are to come on this journey but it seems he is the first to arrive. He sits down on the ground to rest. Rest when you can the words seemed to echo in his mind because you never know when your next chance will be

I remember it as if it were yesterday. Gundren requested council with Father about this endeavor. He had me sit with him on the meeting, feeling that it would be best since I would one day take over for him. After explaining the situation, I advised Father to let me go take part in the expedition. Reason being that it would be a great way to meet the people of Phandelin and let them know that they always have a listening ear and a helping hand from House Devereaux.

Gareth Devereaux, climbed into the wagon. "Glad to see you here."he says to the driver. The man sits in the back and looks to the staff wielding gentleman next to him. "Hello, friend. I am Gareth of House Devereaux." He extends his hand with a young, energetic, and sincere smile.

Luka scrambled as she finished up her morning chores including making breakfast for the children. She grumbled under her breath, and scolded herself for not setting her things out in advance. Jeez...I'm usually on top of things, but now i'm gonna be the one holding everyone up. This job is really important too. The orphanage needs as much income as it can get, and it won't help if I'm...*sigh* I must hurry. She made sure her armor, mace, and other equipment were secure to her person. The last thing she grabbed was her holy symbol of Sune. She stared fondly at the symbol, and held it close to her chest. Please watch over me, my comrades, and the children. As she concluded her small prayer, a poke at her side caused her to turn around. Three small children stood in front of her and gave her a small boxed lunch. Luka knelt down, and accepted the gift. Awww. Thank you so much. I'll be home soon, so you all behave yourselves. With goodbyes said, she left the orphanage to meet up with her group.

Luka smiled, and waved to her compatriots. Greeting, friends!

After being in Neverwinter for a day, I was able to get word of Gundren in need of people to escort a wagon of goods out of town.

Wonderful, I was hoping to find Gundren and ask his advice on the start of my journey. This will be exciting to help him.

I head out to find the wagon that following morning. When I arrived, I'm disappointed Gundren is gone, but glad to see the wagon is still here.

Due to my low Str I look a bit odd. As a dwarf I look anemic, but I closely resemble a slightly husky halfling but will a lot of hair and a thick beard. Wearing common light brown cloths with a pack on my back and a dagger on my side.

Luka shook the hands of her party members, and turned to Kai. "Oh yes she is. She was running around like her normal self. Thank you so much for your help." She gave a warm smile.

A young man in his twenties casually strolls towards the company. Everything about the way he walks, from the nonchalant cadence to his proud posture, tells of a nobleman - a nobleman who never had to hurry a single day in his life, because if everyone else can just wait for him, it would be their pleasure.

The man paused at the cart. With a few long seconds, he surveys the party with a knowing eye and a faint smirk. Everything he wears seem to just. . .belong on him, with a sense of elegance too often lost with lowborn peasantry.

"Gareth of House Dereveaux?" The young man says, seemingly ignoring everyone else in the party. His posture relaxes for all but a moment in a slight bow. Another nobleman? Funny the company that ten gold can attract. . .Then again, I doubt that either of us are here for the money.

"I am Colten of House Duveau, Waterdeep." With another pause, he finally announces with a slight emphasis on the "Waterdeep". "Well met."

"Waterdeep,eh? Well met, indeed. Tell me, how is Waterdeep doing? I was there last season and I found the public to be most intriguing."
OOC:
What do I know of his house? I'm rolling history (+3) and intelligence (+1) just in case.

The driver, a disheveled looking human man, is starting to grow impatient with all of the bantering. "When you all done here, git on board and we can move out. Got room fer one of you up front wit me, and two more can git in the wagon. Other three of ya will have to walk." the man, whose math skills are certainly questionable, says with a grunt.
OOC:
Once everyone picks a starting position and is ready to move we'll get the story along.
The house of Duveau is well known in and around Waterdeep and has been for generations. A well regarded noble family. (Sampai can provide more detail about his character's house if he likes)

Easy there, friend. No need to get aggravated. I like a good walk in the morning. Gareth hops over the side of the wagon, turns to the driver and smiles while giving him a friendly bow.
Jun 22, 2016 2:45 pm
On any other day, Colten would be the first to ride. But now that there is another nobleman in his company who offered to walk, for goodness sake,he would have to do the same.

I never thought I would see the day when noblemen walk and peasants ride. Yet, here I am.Colten mused.

"Let's get going then, shall we?" He says flatly, more of a statement rather than a request.

Gareth looks to the driver. Sir, is everyone here?
Jun 22, 2016 3:18 pm
I walk up to the wagon excitedly. "Wow haven't been on a wagon like this." Jumping up to the front seat by the driver, I lean over and start, with great curiosity, asking the driver a whole bunch of odd questions. "So, how fast does this thing go? What kind of weight can she pull? Did you get the driving gear from a local shop or is it from Never winter? I know a lot of people in never winter. My guild is there, nice people." and so on

"Waterdeep is the same way it has been, Gareth." Colten says when there is a break in the ramblings of the rest of the party. "Always changing, but somehow the same. It gets boring, tiresome even, you know?"

Good thing these fine boots fit well.
Jun 22, 2016 4:56 pm
BAH, when you are one with your people and come together as a community, things never get boring. You'll have friends abundant. Gareth turns to the newcomer pestering the driver and smiles. Alright, friend. Let's give him a break. There will be more than enough time for that on the road
Jun 22, 2016 4:59 pm
Curious about the expedition, Gareth turns to the driver. Is this everyone?
