"Don't run, and you may yet live, filth." Colten's cold voice pierced the darkness. The noble's rapier still waved rhythmically in the dark, its sheen catching the dim light here and there, moving closer and closer to the goblin's throat. "Tell me little goblin, where is our dwarven friend, Gundren?"

Knowing his options are limited the goblin puts up no resistance as Kai binds its hand and feet with rope as it kneels on the ground. As Kai tends the little creature's wounds he lets out a sigh of relief only to gasp almost immediately after as Colten's blade threatens just inches away from its throat.

"Dwarf gone!! King Grol got him now!! Human still in eating cave" he motions with his head towards the cave opening.

An unintentional 'good cop, bad cop' routine. Let's run with it.

"Who, or what, is "King Grol?"" Colten asked, raising an eyebrow curiously. His blade no longer inched forward, but hung still in the air.
Jun 30, 2016 9:44 pm
Reaching up to his face, Gareth subtly points his finger at Colten while bringing his hand back down.
OOC:
Casting Message sending one to Colten. "You know, with my experience dealing with the local goblin communities in my home, I actually speak Goblin. If I spoke to him in his tongue, he may be more willing to help us. Plus, he may be able to give us an extra hand if we can, dare I say, befriend him and teach him the error of his ways.

Colten gives an imperceptible nod to Gareth's message, and sheaths his blade with a flourish.

Speaking in the creature's native tongue, Gareth approaches. I apologize for startling you. My friends and I are all still a bit startled from being attacked not too long ago. Plus, we found evidence to believe a friend of ours is missing. My name is Gareth. He offers his hand slowly with a smile. My friends and I are looking for him. I deeply apologize for us breaking into your home but he means worlds to us and we truly wish not to harm anyone. Putting his other hand on his chin. Gareth thinks for a second. I'll tell you what. If you help us out in here to find our friend, I will personally allow you to live at my homestead. Acres of land, fancy clothes, pretty women, mountains of food to eat and many shiny things to stare at. On top of that, you and I can be friends and I will personally look out for you. He takes five gold out of his pocket and puts it into the goblins hand. Just some proof so hopefully you'll trust me. What do you say? Will you help us, be my friend, and live a life of luxury?
OOC:
Any chance of advantage for speaking goblin?

The goblin's eyes widen at the sight of the gold and the 'too good to be true' offer that Gareth has just presented. He nods his head up and done as fast as he can and blurts "I will help! I will help!!"

"King Grol is the king of our tribe, the Cragmaw Tribe." he says, chest puffing out with pride. "He ordered Klarg, the cave leader, to look out for the dwarf and capture him. We then sent the dwarf and all of his gear to Grol in his castle, we kept the human though."

He suddenly stops and stares at the ground, "...humans make good food...."
OOC:
This conversation was all in goblinese, of course, but I'll assume Gareth is passing on the gist of the conversation to the others. Also, I'm really glad someone in the party speaks goblin, keeps me from having to write "me do this, me kill that" in broken common. :-)
Jun 30, 2016 10:44 pm
After explaining the deal that was just made and relating the conversation, Gareth turns back to goblin. (In Goblin) Did you... eat the human? Please tell me... what is your name? I'm sorry. I didnt get your name.
Jun 30, 2016 11:04 pm
Still a bit nervous after mentioning the human, the goblin, still staring at the ground says, "Not yet. Once guards who took dwarf to Grol return then we are supposed to feast. Human is still alive in the cave."

He pauses for a second and then looks up at Gareth.

"My name is Puck."
OOC:
My standard way of coming up with names is to translate very non-creative names to Hungarian. Apparently, though, the translation of 'goblin' is 'kobold' which won't work. So you get 'Puck' instead. :-)

Luka's ears perk up as Gareth and the goblin speak. She gives herself a mental pat on the back for picking up on multiple languages in her life. She walks up to the two, and speaks in goblin, What dangers might we run into once inside, dear Puck?
Jun 30, 2016 11:15 pm
"Klarg!" Pucks answers without hesitation. "Leader of the cave is bugbear called Klarg. He's very tough on goblins!"
Jun 30, 2016 11:16 pm
Kai asks puck could you explain what is inside the cave if we are to enter and save our human friend it would be good to know what we are up against.... is it possible that we could trade for the human

Humm.. better stick close to my party lest i get caught alone and unaware. I wonder what there saying silly goblins they always talk so weird.
I walk over to the rest of the group with firebolt still prepared. Don't wanna let any goblins get away or ambush us from the cave without being somewhat prepared.

Breaking back into broken Common in order to answer Kai, "Puck just cave guard, more mean goblins take human into eating cave. Many other Cragmaw goblins inside." Puck brings his bound hands up in front of him and spreads his spindly fingers out, of which he has four on the left hand and a full five on the right.

"This many!" he says before closing his hands and repeating the gesture "Maybe this many more too."
Jun 30, 2016 11:57 pm
"Well, maybe this "Klarg" is a worthy opponent." Colten muttered under-breath. "Shall we get going then? We have a feast to interrupt, after all."

In Goblin: Alright, Puck, my friend. If you help us through, I promise I will protect you and show you luxury. I can even provide you education. You could become the smartest and wisest goblin through studying. Ready to help us? Gareth gives the goblin a warm smile. Working with many goblins, I can tell this one is a victim of circumstance. The group he is with leads him to eat others of intelligence, they lack the ability to speak tru common, and this group also seems to be very barbaric. Puck will learn and he will become one of the greatest members of our society.
