We should agree on character generation rules or define the ones for our respectful game

These are mine suggestions
Quote:
Any official published material are automatically approved, even Strixhaven. UA or anything homebrewn swing it by the GM first
Customization: Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything variant humans and feats are allowed
Statsare 4d6 drop low and if the die rolls suck, then you have pointbuy as backup.
Level 3, multiclassing is allowed
Gear starting gear + 100 gp or 1 common magic item. A wishlist for uncommon magic items that you perhaps can borrow from your patron/organisation/mentor ect would be appreciated. But you will only borrow one item.

Agreed, any ideas on who you wish to pick as your sidekick? I'm thinking about either a pixie or a shadow
May 13, 2022 5:53 pm
I like the shadow idea, and perhaps my character just took his paladin oath when he inheret his father's tattoo. Or rather, when his father died the tattoo he had all my character's life, transferred to him and now he has a shadow as a sidekick.
Who is this shadow, what is this tattoo, why did his father have it, and can he keep it secret from his paladin order, as this could be a family history that does not look good in the light?

Sure go absolutely nuts with the idea, i like it!

Let's see .... I'm thinking about human artificer adopted by the local (human) smith, lived his whole life in waterdeep, that he believes to be his real father. The father never told him about his origins, cuz he doesn't know, the man picked up the infant while being dead drunk, or at least he will attempt to persuade the lad about it if he ever asks...

His faithful companion is as anvil wrought raptor, that his father created together with the lad...

He's a clan crafter spending his days working in his father's workshop and working on his own inventions, knowledge along the way....

Who's his father? Is the man really just a Smith? Does his origin have any weight? Does the Smith have a family? Any other children? Do they look alike or is he completely different, like a brunette in a blonde household? What is their relationship, both in family and with the townsfolk? Where in waterdeep do they live? Does anyone try to pressure them for one reason or another? And so on...
OOC:
I'm really excited to see what kind of adventure you can come up with here...

Rolls

Stats - (4d6H3, 4d6H3, 4d6H3, 4d6H3, 4d6H3, 4d6H3))

4d6H3 : (6363) = 15

4d6H3 : (2662) = 14

4d6H3 : (6541) = 15

4d6H3 : (4265) = 15

4d6H3 : (4265) = 15

4d6H3) : (4663) = 16

wow - that is a neat set of stats!

so race: human, class: artificer, background: clan crafter. Raised by adopted humans and now we need some outside pressure. There is a story here. I'll give it a think

I think you would live close to the The Metal House of Wonders and thus you have been found near the Yawning portal

My character is defently a local. His father was properly an adventure before setteling down in Waterdeep

Alright, this his tattoo that he inherited... Irl it is known as "The Web of Wyrd" i though it would be a good fit.

He doesn't know about the shadows origins, but if i may put out a suggestion, he knew that his father had a 'living shadow' he had seen it move from time to time, detaching itself from the person, his shadow looked to be calm and disciplined. Not stepping out of line and following commands to the point.

While his new gained 'friend' mostly acts like a puppy, not really knowing his place and being overly curious that could be both a pro and a con throughout the paladins adventure.
OOC:
Yes i thought about it and decided that it would be fun if it was his own shadow...

[ +- ] So, his own shadow?
The shadow is friendly, an ally, that is for sure. But I like to keep him in doubt if it is evil or good. But it is also something he is going to keep a secret from everyone. If it is his own shadow that has changed it could be a serious matter that he had to report to someone. If it is his father's shadow friend who lives in his shadow now, it would be ok.

BTW you should be able to see the character sheet of Wilhelm, that is how fare I got the character yesterday.

I had a discussion about this with some people irl yesterday and we came to a conclusion that, if you want a shadow that does not straight up want to devour you, it would make more sense that it's your own shadow...

Keep it a secret, it is only logical..., but as a player you should remember that it's an newly birthed (chaotic evil by nature) individual... So even if it is an ally it's more of a moody cat that he's going to be dealing with... Not an ideally trained k9 dog... (Ofcourse that won't involve combat.)
OOC:
Im just putting this on the table, since i had my players pick evil pets, and then be angry because of their own choices...

That is the reason why I didn't pick shadow as the partner for my character when i thought about the options at hand...

Here's my character, his name will be Dean and his anvil wrought raptor named Hawk, do commoners have family names in waterdeep?

By this I assume that both you foster father and you are Battle Smiths artificers? Have a potion based plot I want to run at some point, but it would only be relevant if you were a Artificer Alchemist

And I like this houserule for the potion crafting

But I don't it would be fitting for a battle smith
May 14, 2022 4:46 pm
Maybe? You don't need to be an artificer to help make parts given the metrics... So.. technically the father doesn't need to be an artificer. It's like you don't need to be a trained electrician to buy the right lightbulb or change a resistors

Not battle Smith.

I wanted to try either an artillerist or the alchemist...

I'm just letting you know that I am reconsiding my charactes class. The paladin with his own shadow as a living creature feels to black and white, I want to have some more nuances. I'm thinking about a Bladesinger wizard. The shadow is still an uncomfortable development and something to be studied.
He is human, he is an elven fanboy and has a crush on his elven magi teacher. The shadow development would not be welcome among the elves in Waterdeep

oki, thanks for letting me know! do you mind if we go to discord rn? I will be making the characters, it will be easier to follow the conversation.
