The Setup Thread

Ok here we'll discuss characters and expectations
May 15, 2022 9:53 pm
Ok, here's the characters for you to choose from. As the first two in I'll give you first pick:

The Landlord (or Landlady)
The Bookshop Owner
Nosy Neighbor
Business Associate
The Tough Guy/Dame
The Beat Cop
May 15, 2022 10:45 pm
Bookshop Owner just screams at me immediately.
Second choice (and completely against type) is the Tough Guy.

Great choice!

Business Associate sounds fun! I could also do beat cop, although I can't promise I wouldn't infuse them with a little bit of detective :P

And why not? The bibliophile will certainly be living out his Hercule Poirot fantasy.

Great. You can both take your first choice and I’ll drop your character details privately. From there you will need to set up a 7e character sheet, copy the stats over then add your own flavour. Players often Google 1920s portraits to get some cool black and white character images.

I’ve decided to remove Beat Cop and run that as an npc if the need arises.

I've set up your own private character threads which no-one else can see (hopefully)

The new MtG set is all Roaring 20s Gatsby-inspired. I've already found a nice pic. :P

I can only see my thread so I think it's working.

Thanks for the confirmation!

Can I go for the tough guy?
May 16, 2022 2:34 pm
I'll be the landlady!

Great. I'll get your private threads set up later today.
May 16, 2022 3:13 pm
Looks like we’re going with 6 then. This should be interesting.

How do you all feel about posting rate? I’ve set it to 5/week in case anyone doesn’t play weekends but I’m ok with one per day. What does everyone prefer?
May 16, 2022 4:02 pm
I'm good with either, preference towards 1/day.
May 16, 2022 4:23 pm
I'm good with anything. I can usually get a post in every day, but there are weekend days, particularly, where I get pretty busy. On occasion I may miss a day, but I give full permission to make decisions on my behalf if it'll keep the pace of the game.
May 16, 2022 6:51 pm
Private character threads up. Waiting on one more, potentially
May 16, 2022 8:39 pm
5/week sounds good to me, I haven't done PbP in a while so I'm not sure I wanna commit to 1/day but I could probably do that if that's what everyone wanted.
May 16, 2022 9:20 pm
No pressure. I think we’ll leave the expectation at 5/week, but if people want to and are able to post more frequently, I won’t object.
May 17, 2022 5:35 am
Nosy Neighbor checking in! Hope to get a handle on them tonight or tomorrow.
May 17, 2022 7:07 am
OK we have one character up already. Copy the details from your private thread into a 7e character sheet, add your name, gender and a little background and submit it to the game.
May 17, 2022 8:57 am
I submitted my character, please tell me if it is OK with you.
May 17, 2022 9:41 am
It's great. I've edited the max sanity (this starts at 99 and goes down as you gain Cthulhu Mythos points from learning about the Mythos)
May 17, 2022 7:36 pm
Florence Baker, Landlady, submitted!

One thing I wasn't sure about - in the pre-formatted sheets in our private threads, are the numbers for skills *including* the base stat? I assume it is, but I can't for the life of me figure out then why some of my skills have entries for %'s that match the base amount.
May 17, 2022 8:14 pm
Langston 'Lang' Du Bois, owner of Ex Libris Rare Books, has reported for duty!
I still have some editing to do with his skills.

Yes the skills are the totals. I noticed that as well, I guess thy just carried some base numbers across and not others
May 17, 2022 10:15 pm
Okay, sheet should be good then :) Let me know if I need to change anything.
May 17, 2022 10:18 pm
Looking good

Do you need any help getting your skills in there?

I was going to ask! Yes, please. I couldn't figure out why the editing page made all the skills disappear. :|

The character sheet has default skills but as the skills we are going to insert over ride those, we need to type them all in.

Oh! I'll get on that tonight.
May 18, 2022 11:42 pm
no need, I did it for you

Maybe think about any gear you might carry with you.
May 18, 2022 11:44 pm
The skills on the pregen character show three numbers, these are 50% and 20% of the base skill, giving you a hard or extreme success score. On the GP sheet, it doesn't accommodate those numbers so you just figure them manually as you need.

Thank you so much! :)

Your investigator’s characteristics, like Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence, as well as their skills, have a value out of one hundred. The higher the number, the better their ability. Each of these values is a percentage, so when asked to make a roll to determine how well your character is doing something, you roll percentile dice. If you roll lower than or equal to your value, then you usually pass the test. If you look at your skills, the ones with the highest numbers are the things your character is best at doing.
