Choices for New Game

May 19, 2022 9:17 am
First we are going to use the same model for character sheet, that will help me to navigate .

Second we have to choose with which kind of characters we start. Personally I'd like to begin with peopl of few powers and build up the team if there should be a campaign, but the choice is yours.

Power level for this scenario Public

Feet in the water (6 refresh, 20 skill points max Great)
Up to your waist (7 refresh, 25 skill points max Great)
Chest deep (8 refresh, 30 skill points max Superb)
Submerged (10 refresh, 35 skill points max Superb)

I don't mind keeping it low powered / young wizard / apprentice or the power level in the first few books

Low powered works for me.

Or are we taking a look at the Dresden Files Accelerated?

Low-powered seems a great place to start off from.

I do love me some Red Court Infected goodness so I'd love to roll with that.

I will go with the original RPG, I do not have the accelerated rules, and I rather begin with the full rules to get a fil of the game.

I propose Atlanta as the starter town,if this is OK with everyone

Era of play Public

In the '80s
In the '90s
around Y2K
Nowadays

Casting my vote for 90s, but I have no problem with any of the other time frames.

I cast my votes, I am happy with low level, allows us to grow together with our characters.

I voted for the 80s. That was because I am old and I look back on them with rose tinted mirror shades. That said I am good for any era, Victorian Dresden anyone? lol

Atlanta works for me.

As for my High concept. I was dabbling with something along the lines of "Skeptical Cult enthusiast with a social media account "

Social media is for "now our day" ;)

I'm good for any timeframe. If we go further back to the Victorian age the magic bane would be something other than electronics. Let's not complicate matters

Atlanta is fine

I fully respect that. Perhaps PBP can be a good media for the full rule set.

I'll plan to look into the character creation process tonight or in the weekend. Have to read up on the rules. (I like the character creation process)

That is fair, I was using social media as a blanket term. It would work in pretty much any decade past the 80s just in different forms.

In the (albeit mid) 90s I would go with AOL and bulletin boards and IRC. 2000s has ICQ and live journal and my space, mid 2000s facebook and youtube, twitter. 2010 on gets into more like what we have today, not many mind blowing changes in the last 15 years just increased functionality.

If we went with 80s I would go with fanzines and clubs. :)

I would like to make a wizard apprentice with the "hasn’t quite come into her powers yet" angle

High Concept: Junior apprentice to Wizard Grumpy McGrumpyface

Taking
* Channeling [–2] (page 181) (that can later be upgraded to Evocation [-3])
* Ritual [–2] (page 181) (that can later be upgraded to Thaumaturgy[-3])
* The Sight [–1] (page 174)
* Soulgaze [–0] (page 174); discounted due to the Sight.
* Wizard’s Constitution [–0] (page 170)
That is a refresh cost of: -5 (I'm going take a lot of compells, but that is part of the game )
Quote:
What About Playing An Apprentice? page 86
An "apprentice" in this case may simply be a wizard without a lot of confidence and skill yet; you can use the Wizard template and just start the character’s skills lower than would usually be optimal.
Or maybe you have a lot of potential, so your skills are high, but you have that word "apprentice" in your high concept or your trouble that’s going to get you a bunch of compels, limiting your ability to be effective.
If you really want to play up the "hasn’t quite come into her powers yet" angle, you could buy less than the full package of abilities, ending up with something more like the Sorcerer or Focused Practitioner templates. Keep in mind that latter template in particular— you could start out with Channeling or Ritual instead of the full-blown versions, later upgrading those to Evocation and Thaumaturgy when your training completes.

Sounds good to me, you have a name for this lady ?

I will change the name of the forum to Dresden's Atlanta

Wayne Ford
High concept : Police werewolf who love justice

taking
* Beast Change [–1] (page 174) Š
* Echoes of the Beast [–1] (page 163) Š
* Human Form [+1] (page 176)
* Inhuman Speed [–2] (page 178)
* Claws [–1] (page 162)

thinking about trouble on "who is my dad?" or "can't stand bad smell, obsess with clean and organize"
