The book is some kind of slim journal. Sam's thumb is in between the pages as a book mark, it looks like he's been reading it. In his other hand is a corked bottle of liquid and a small vial of off-white powder.

The sound of the glass smashing, and of the pennies scattering everywhere, freezes Otto in his tracks as he brings a hand up to touch his head and the bruise growing there.

Otto looks into the cabinet and sees nothing but jars, baskets and cloths bags filled with vegetables and other food stuffs. Cautiously opening the other cabinets, he finds the same.
