Dead Boarder

Lang couldn't look away from the thing. He couldn't get out yet anyhow but he backed away as quickly as the pileup at the door allowed. The South had its folk tales about the unquiet dead. Lang knew the Europeans had theirs, too. Everywhere had stories about the dead rising but not everywhere had the dead actually rise.

"What are you? Jim? What do you want?"

The colours swirl about and amid the clouds, faces form, screaming. Through it, as if in response to Lang, the thing fixes its glare on Perry. With Sam in the way, it lurches towards him, swinging a bloody fist.
OOC:
Sam, You can dodge or fight back (brawl)

Rolls

Brawl (50) - (1d100)

(20) = 20

Penalty die - (1d10)

(9) = 9

Jun 13, 2022 10:25 am
Having been in fights before, Sam knows when it's time to confront the enemy and when it's time to dodge. Now is a time to dodge.

Rolls

Dodge (30) - (1d100)

(92) = 92

Jun 13, 2022 11:00 am
Correction - as Sam is build 1, he is bigger than the thing. That means on its attack, it takes a penalty die - an extra d10 for the 'tens' and taking the worst result. In this case, 90 which is a miss.

Sam dodges back and the Gardiner-thing's swing flies wide.

Round 3
[ +- ] Initiatives
Florence is safely out the door and heads toward the stairs. Otto follows and hears Sam yell as the thing attacks him back in the room. Does Otto keep running? His own apartment is on this floor below, maybe you have a weapon there that might fight this thing? Or maybe you just want to run?
Jun 13, 2022 9:59 pm
After making certain that Ms. Baker is safe, Otto turns back towards the apartment, his head swimming and mind reeling. "Clear the room!" he shouts to the others. "Run! This way!"
OOC:
I believe Otto is Dazed for one more round, yes? His objective is to stay near the door, outside in the hallway. If and when everyone is out, he'll slam and try and hold the door. Make sense?
Jun 13, 2022 10:32 pm
OOC:
Correct. At the end of this round, Otto and Florence will recover and need a San roll.
Jun 13, 2022 10:32 pm
OOC:
Sam, you're up
Jun 14, 2022 9:57 am
If everybody is out, Sam leaves the room as well promptly. If not, he swings his foot at the monster to buy time.
Jun 14, 2022 10:36 am
Having ducked the attack, Sam heads out the door, passing Otto in the corridor heading back to the room.

Florence, once down to the second floor, is heading down the final set of stairs. Still no sign of Tommy.

Perry up next.

Perry runs out into the hall, squeezing his way past Sam and Otto and heading for the stairs. He draws his gun as he goes, but is too focused on leaving to fire any shots at the monstrosity.
Jun 14, 2022 2:50 pm
Sam gets out and Perry is right behind him, the tome clutched under one arms and the ledgers under the other. As they are getting out this turn, they are blocking the exit so Lang is not able to get out too this round. The Gardiner-thing's attention is on Perry.
OOC:
What does Lang do?
Jun 15, 2022 1:50 am
"Jim! Are you in there?! Damnit, Jim!" Lang shouted.

He couldn't get out but the creature's fixation made him believe he wasn't its immediate target.

"It wants what you're carrying, Perry! Drop it!"

OOC:

Otto and Florence to make a Sanity roll as the Dazed effect wears off.

Rolls

attack vs Perry - (1d100)

(88) = 88

Jun 16, 2022 6:16 am
OOC:
Rolling Sanity. Have Perry and the Gardiner-Thing both exited the apartment? If so, Otto's plan would be the slam the apartment door on the thing as it tries to leave the apartment -- hard (enough to hopefully damage it.)

Rolls

Sanity (46) - (1d100)

(2) = 2

Jun 16, 2022 6:20 am
OOC:
Yes but as that would leave Lang in there alone with it, I assumed you wouldn’t, if that’s not the case, we can jog back..?
OOC:
Otto -1 Sanity
Jun 16, 2022 6:44 am
OOC:
Well, I meant to slam the door on the thing like a weapon -- to injure or stun it, not to slam the door it its face and trap it with Lang. :)
Jun 16, 2022 6:58 am
OOC:
ok I'm good with that. It'll be an auto hit, but I'll need a strength check to do any damage.
Jun 16, 2022 7:04 am
OOC:
Can I have an Idea / INT check, Lang?
Jun 16, 2022 7:10 am
This monster used to be his friend. Would Lang join him in death? Undeath? He had to think of a way out!

Rolls

Idea/Int (70) - (1d100)

(8) = 8
