Dead Boarder

Florence hangs back in relative safety with her boy. She's not a coward, but his safety is paramount, second only to her deep concern about what's happening with her boarding house and the people that live there.

Perry considers joining the fray, but realizes it is absolutely not his job. Plus, if the creature really does want what he's carrying, there's absolutely no way it should be allowed to fall into its hands, right? Yeah, that sounds sensible.

That said, he will draw his pistol and peer up the stairs, although he'll refrain from firing for now for fear of hitting someone.

"Mr. Schmidt!" Florence calls, "What are you doing?!"

"Fighting back!" Lang shouted a bit too loudly at Florence, the denial and slammed door added to his fear. He wasn't the strongest but he could at least shield Ms. Baker.

"You and the boy stay behind me. If that... that thing gets down here, I'll try to slow it down so you can get out, OK?"

Florence simply nods at Mr. Du Bois's words, a hand guardedly on Tommy's shoulder.

Hearing the whistling sound again, Sam clenches his teeth.

"Stopping it from coming down here!" Otto shouts back at Baker, right but he winces. There's that whistling again!

"Not... again..." Lang groaned as he hunched over in mental and physical pain.

Florence doubles over, covering one ear with her hand and holding the other to Tommy's opposite ear while pushing his head against her, trying to shield him from the worst of whatever that creature was doing.

"Keep running!" Otto says to Florence, her boy, and anyone else around to listen. "Go -- out the front door, down the street! Away from the sound! My God, that sound!"
