City called Tri nearby - Taft infamous among warriors, known as Silverhair / Silvertongue.
The plague is being caused by the Leshy (spirit of the trees) as a way of eliminating invasive humans. Shadow barked at it. Leshy is a male counterpart to the female spirit of the river.
The Leshy cannot attack the people while they're on the stones.
The Leshy knows that there are spirit marks on the axes of the builders (Pyre), and spirit marks on the speakers.
He wasn't going to stop hurting things on the East side of the river, but would stay away from Flodminningstead.
Agreed not to hurt those marked by Frost or Wind; specifically agreed not to harm Vasil and Akseli. Couldn't really distinguish people unless they were marked. He could only protect or identify other people who are marked with the Forest.

As Taft convalesces, Vasil and Shadow plan to attack the approaching scouts before they trigger the ambush at the ford, leaving the ambush to stand for the larger group later. To know where in the woods the scouts are, Shadow turns its snout to the sky and seeks out the ravens.

Though the wolves woke up from their nap bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, Vasil seems exhausted. Shadow decides it would not be safe to let him go alone, and encourages him to ride on its back. But is this any safer? Will the wolf be able to sneak with a whole man on its back?
