Welcome Eskaton

We did not hear from you in the 'recruitment' thread, so don't know what you are hoping to get from this game.

Tell us a bit about yourself. What PbtA experience do you have? This system is very 'short' and 'simple', hence much of the guidance one needs to play is assumed to be picked up from other games, 'PbtA principles' need to be found elsewhere (I will probably draw more from Apocalypse World than from The Sprawl, but even something like Dungeon World's principles and guidance (in the free SRD) can help (maybe I should add a short set of our own?)). Prior PbtA experience is not needed, and your profile just says you are 'interested' in PbtA (and BitD, which is not a bad place to draw principles from), but that could mean so many things. :)

Ask lots of questions and we can work out the answers together.
Note that this game has been rather quiet. I set it up as part of an effort to have games available for new players when they join the site, but nothing has happened here yet, only the ever-popular genre of Fantasy has seen much action. You are currently the only player here.

If need be we can try recruit more players. Cyberpunk is not an ideal setting/system for solo play (where there is only one player (and maybe a GM)). Solo play can be a good way to learn a system or roleplaying in general, but can also be stressful --or a lot of work-- as all the spotlight is on you, all the time, and you don't have other players to bounce ideas off of.

If you are still wanting to try this, we can look at getting some help, or we can go it alone and hope that activity will bring in more interest.

This is not Shadowrun. 'Cyberpunk' is not well defined, so we may need to calibrate expectations. What are you looking for?
Take a look at the Help! thread for guidance. Feel free to ask any question here or in the General Chat depending on where they seem relevant.

You can find the Game's Rule Book copied here for easy access, or get the PDF. You may find the Character Creation section useful to get an idea of the sorts of character this game offers.

Hi vagueGM,

It's been a while since I've done PbP, but I was thinking of trying to rejoin a game to help fill some downtime. I was under the impression there were already a few players here so joined. I played in an Apocalypse World game by PbP that went on for about 3 months and thought this might be a fun setting to jump back into. If I'm the only player, there's no need to recruit as far as I'm concerned, I'm happy to either step back or hang out in the case that somebody else joins looking for a game and go from there.

Let me know either way.

Best,
Esk

They were all in your same situation. They joined individually and were the only player here, then most of them eventually left the site, but I don't want to kick them since they may want to come back and this game is meant to be 'newbie friendly' and being kicked for inactivity is not 'friendly'. :)

It was my original vision to have some reliable players hanging out in these games to fill out the roster when new players arrived, but volunteers were sparse. :(

If you are still happy to be here when another arrives, then that will definitely help them and give you a chance to play.

Try joining some other games as well, though, since there is no promise anyone will be along here anytime soon.

What sort of games are you looking for? Specifically 'Cyberpunk', or other stuff as well?

Three months can be a bit short in PbP, even for AW.

I am always on the verge of running AW games, it really is an excellent ruleset. But there are so many games I am on the verge of running. :)

Yeah, that's been my experience with PbP in the past, 10 games start for every one that lasts more than a month. I'll hang out and watch this space to see if some other folks join. End of the day, I'm looking for a narrative first system to use in PbP and would prefer modern or future setting, kind of burned out on fantasy tropes at this point to be really honest.

I get that. While I am not burned out on fantasy, some variety is always welcome.

What do you mean 'modern'. That term is often equated with 'Urban Fantasy' (like Buffy or Supernatural), or is that too close to 'fantasy' for you?

How far 'future' are you thinking of? Full on space scifi or slightly forward from here, but still basically our world (a la Cyberpunk)?

By modern I mean anything from 1990's-2220's realistic gumshoe to Urban fantasy to CoC/Delta Green style settings (I'd even go early 20th century or 19th century if the flavor was right). By future I'm pretty flexibile, near future dystopias like blade runner, shadowrun et al all the way to far flung sci fi either hard sci-fi or fantasy sci fi I'd be open to. I'm mostly just tired of high fantasy dragons, elves, sword and board tropes and looking to change things up.

That is a fairly wide set of games you are interested in (I was mainly checking if any fantasy would be a deal breaker in the 'modern'), so I am sure you will not struggle to find something like that.

CoC comes up quite regularly, as does Delta Green. I can't help you with 'horror' games, though, it is not my bag.

A lot of new players are listing Monster of the Week as points of interest, so I keep thinking about running something along that line.

I am noodling with a magic focused modern game where the PCs get traveled to another world and find that --due to some quirk in the nature of that world and ours-- they are able to do magic there while, the locals can not. There are myths and legends about us. One possible system I am thinking about is tacking the three Magic Moves from Monster of the Week onto World of Dungeons Turbo: Breakers (because the Otherkind Dice that I want to use are not ideal for PbP). Although this will probably end up a little too much on the 'high fantasy' side, your list brought it to mind.

If you are really set on Cyberpunk, or don't find something to your liking, we can look at setting something up. Maybe we get more players into this game, or maybe we start something more permanent (the new player focus of this game restricts the scale and the impact the players can have on the world).
