Jean uses the boost to jump inside the window.
OOC:
rolled 5
She expertly catches her balance on the window shill and crouches looking into the room with her darkness enhanced eyes. Her camouflage tabbard quickly changes color to black, making her harder to distinguish in the dark room. Then she carefully slips into the room, looking for violins or some rope that can be used to help the others up.

What luck ...

... the room inside the window is a custodial closet, and the door to the interior is ajar. The morning light through the window shows a mop, a broom, a bucket, a long-handled dustpan, a large tool chest, a small toolbox, and, yes, a bundle of rope. The crack of the door reveals that the interior passage is lit dimly by sunlight through the other windows and rooms on this side of the building.

Jean ties the rope securely around the heaviest and sturdiest object and gives it a few good tugs to test they it's safe. Then throws the end back down to the alleyway and waves the rest of the crew up...

Jean thinks that the broom and mop, with the rope knotted round them, are braced securely across the narrow window.
OOC:
After the first person starts up please roll to find out ... would this be a d6? I think. The worst risk is that one of the people trying to ascend falls to the ground, and I then would roll a d6 for their Luck to learn the extent of their injury.

I'll go. Marcel, wait until I have crested the sill before you climb!" With a dramatic flourish of his cape, Pierre grabs onto the rope and hoists his ample frame up toward the window, using his arms on the rope to hold steady and his feet to walk up the wall.

Jean's piratical background serves her well

and her makeshift rope ladder holds up as Marcel and Pierre ascend quietly into the janitorial closet.

What now?

Jean tries to quietly fiddle with the door and see if she can get into the main part of the building.

Marcel watches, his ears intently listening for sounds within the opera house. The footfall of a guard, the claws of a dog, the squeak of a mouse...

The door swings open a bit as Jean handles the knob. Through the narrow opening she can see a vacant hallway, marble-floored, the walls of marble also. The fancy new electric chandeliers are not presently lit, the morning sunlight through the tall windows suffices. It was an oddity that the janitorial closet window was open ...

"Ah, yes, but of course, when the chandeliers are lit? Magnifique! But alas, we must do with out, and find the ... There, follow me.'

As an entertainer, Marcel has dreamed of playing in this venue, and even ushered as a child for his tutor, Emmanuel deCamp. He leads the way to the setup room for the musicians.

Jean decisively but carefully follows. Keeping ears perked for any violin sounds.

Pierre is amazed at the lavishness of the place and almost forgets why they are here. He'd love nothing more than to sit and listen, relaxing being his specialty.

But he snaps out of it. There is a job to do and he doesn't want to appear lazy.

"Now where would those instruments be, eh?"
Jun 28, 2022 10:01 am
Marcel leads the way into the grand foyer, from which he knows there is a small entrance to the understage area where the practice instruments are kept - of course the prima virtuossi keep their personal pieces at home, unless performing for an audience.

Abruptly, your progress through the vast, ornate, and dimly-lit interior is halted by a shout: "Hey! You intruders! What do you think you are doing, eh?" A beefy fellow in the livery of the Paris gendarmes stomps toward you from the front of the building. He holds a large baton of dark wood, not as a conductor of music but rather as a conducer of headaches. "You should not be in here ... eh, Richelieus?!" He spits on the polished floor, rubs out the smear with his heavy boot. "Get out!"
Jun 29, 2022 7:27 pm
Marcel knows the guard and the Richelieu have a girls, even hateful rivalry. He draws his blade. "Is this a barn, to see such swine clambering about?" he calls back in the battle for wits that had just engaged.
Jun 29, 2022 9:06 pm
"Aha! Would you draw steel on me, dog? I'll shatter your puny blade with one stroke of my good walnut wand, sirrah!" The gendarme stamps menacingly toward Marcel.
Jun 30, 2022 12:35 am
"Not so fast monsieur! The sound of metal sliding from a sheath is echoed in the cavernous building as Pierre withdraws his sword."No one, and I mean no one threatens my friends!"
Jun 30, 2022 12:49 am
The gendarme steps to the side, moving so that a line is formed of him - Marcel - Pierre. Around his neck on a lanyard he wears a brass whistle; this he raises to his lips and blows. The shrill note shrieks off the marble walls and vaulted ceiling, its sound glimmers from the crystals that dangle from the (unlit) electric chandeliers. "The others come presently!" he triumphantly announces. "We have juridiction here, you dogs! We'll break your heads and have you arraigned."
Jun 30, 2022 1:42 am
"No, my fine idiotic friend, it is you who shall be arraigned. You infringe upon the keeng's beesness!" He swishes the sabre as if testing it's mettle.
Jun 30, 2022 11:49 am
You hear several hefty people approaching at a running pace, and looking toward the sounds of heavy boots you see two more gendarmes each gripping a sturdy baton. One wears a pistol at her hip, hanging in a holster from a belt that holds about a dozen cartridges.

"Deesist!" exclaims the gunbearer. "Put up your swords. We have no quarrel with the Richelieus!"
