Yeah. I'm running Descent into Avernus at the moment - I don't mind the players knowing the plot (which is kinda unavoidable), but they have to play as though their characters don't.

No yeah as a fellow GM I get it.

So as far as the pc knows - he's a mysterious hooded stranger with a thing for large string instruments.

Is it? I do it all the time.

I think it's nice for the players to know things that their characters don't.

I did exactly this with my last post in Waterdeep Dragon Heist. I gave the urchin's name as Jenks in the avatar, even though the characters don't know the kid's name.

But some players will have met Jenks, Nat, and Squiddly in other games - so it's like a famous NPC cameo for players in the know.

I'm writing the next part, but it's a slow process as I'm at work now. Should be done within the day though.

There's an epilogue missing, but yeah. That's pretty much it.
