Chapter 1 - Summer

OOC:
Great question! I picture:
(1) The ship is in the air. They rarely land on purpose.
(2) But it's tied off to multi-leveled air-dock that has a switch back stair to get to higher levels.
(3) The ship is akin to a 17th century sea-faring boat. But with fins. And a zeppelin-like balloon. And gears cranking all over the place. And cool steampunk thrusters.
(4) The ship lowers many of it's goods via gear block and tackle systems, as it can't land without powering down, and that takes a long time I imagine.
(5) Markets and warehouses are often housed at the base of the air-docks, and I picture a popup market--tents and the like--on the ground surrounding this one. Locals trying to sell their goods to the merchant ship(s).
(6) Let's say the ship is docked at the top of the dock--about 50 meters up

To Sans ~
Loading Crewman
*Sigh* "I may get my hide chewed if ya ain't got much worth to say." He shrugs and snatches Sans' offered coin. "But it is what it is."

He hustles over to one of the ropes that's been lowered from above, yanks on it, then ascends to the upper decks and Merchant Captain.

Once arrived, he tugs the merchants sleeve, points as best he can down at Sans and the rest of the company.

Merchant Captain

The merchant squints down. He looks incredulous, but turns and slowly begins his descent down the switchback.

Mathis Baumé
Mathis looks out from under the stairway, worried. "What do you plan to say Sans? What's our plan here?"
Oct 12, 2022 9:22 pm
Sans considers their predicament. " This is a foreign ship, from H'ridt. We cannot appeal to their loyalty to the Queen, particularly as the traitor Royal Guard are at our heels, casting doubt on our veracity. It's their word against ours." He shakes his hooded head, "No... my guess is that a merchant would understand only one language: profit. So we must prepare to pay for our passage... how are our finances, comrades?"
OOC:
can we raise between us a palatable offer to whet the Merchant Ship captain's appetite? Either that, or offer our services to protect their cargo. Demonstrations of our fencing prowess freely available on demand!

At the sound that they must be delving into bribery, Aloys sighs softly and reaches underneath his arm to pull out the pouch of coins that he had gotten from the driver.

"I have this. It isn't much but it is, quite honestly, nearly all I have. I was hoping to have a reward from the Baron, not be labeled a traitor." The frown is short-lived though as he smiles again at his comrades. "Oh well, back to running from the guards again, it seems. Let's make out move and bargain."
Oct 14, 2022 6:52 am
"This is good, Aloys. Here, this is what I have. Also, I got the Captain to be summoned, but I feel convincing him would be best left to one of you: my appearance tends to... disconcert people. I mean, it disconcerts me, in the mirror..."

He steps more in the background, sitting down in the shade of the barrels with his hood up.
Oct 14, 2022 5:04 pm
"Do not fear friend, we're getting on that ship one way or another." Aloys says with a smile, making his way towards Mathis, Issac, and Elaine. He looks at his wounded comrade, lips pressed together as he examines the red, angry wound his friend still has.

"We'll give you a chance to rest soon enough, my friend. Just hold on, alright?"
Oct 14, 2022 5:42 pm
"Money is no good to us if we're jailed or dead." as Issac hands Aloys what meager coin he has left.

The Air-Dock Stairs ~
You'd all see the captain of the vessel heading down the stair, two burly guards following him as he goes (his own guards, not of the royal variety).

In less than a minute he's stepping off the creaking planks on to the ground in front of the Gold Cloak crew.

Merchant Captain
He looks, rather suspiciously, at you musketeers--whether you be hidden in the shadows of the dock or front and center.

With no preamble, "What's this now? I'm told I you've requested a discrete audience with me. Discretion rhymes with coin, to my ear, so let's hear what you're about?"

The captain is clearly a shrewd fellow, and you can tell he'd have a spirit to match his mercantile ability--higher than average for sure.

`
OOC:
As a reminder: you all are hiding your affiliation? Or would he see and know you are Gold Cloaks?

OOC:
Issac stowed away his gold cloak. I'm assuming that's the only item that let's anyone know we're part of the GC crew?

We didn't get visibly branded, tattooed, or sewed GC patches on our backpacks (ala the 90s)?

OOC:
sans is wearing his cloak with its hood up, to conceal his disfigured face. Can remove it, though, if we want to go more incognito

Merchant Captain
The captain catches sight of the coloring of San's cloak--a twinkle of greed passes through his eyes. Clearly he sees profit here.

Otherwise he waits with fake indignation for a response.
OOC:
"GC patches on our backpacks (ala the 90s)"- LOL
Also, let's roll with him seeing the cloak--the mystery thickens.

Greetings, good captain. We are in need to move quickly, my friend's cloak here showing his importance." Aloys said, distinctly trying to lie first. If they were discovered later that they were, in fact, the ones who were being hunted down, the captain could be implied as complicit. If found out too early, it was blackmail over their head. "We need you to take us, with haste, to Hrid't." Aloys produces the bag of coin, shaking it temptingly. "Yours for when we're in Hrid't. Fair?"

In Conversation with the Merchant Captain | Aloys ~
Merchant Captain
He rubs his chin as he listens, suppressing a smile.

Over a barrel... he thinks.
OOC:
Narrating roll.
Yet... allies are made through goodwill. He eyes the purse. He eyes the party. He eyes Aloys in the eye. "Deal. Full purse when we arrive.

Cavalry Officer
You'd all hear the whining shout of an overwrought guardsman pushing his way through the market crowds.

"Make WAY you time-blasted fools! Make way!" He and his men shove their way through, walking now, searching frantically, market stall after market stall.

Merchant Captain
The captain, hearing the shouts, looks at the party and says with a smirk; "I think you all'd best get on board as quickly as possible, eh?"

He turns and hustles up the stairs shouting to his crew--"Up and at it crew. We're in the air NOW!"

OOC:
Who's ready for a dramatic task?!
And oh yeah, Sans take a bennie for your face keeping you from engaging.
Oct 20, 2022 3:31 pm
Issac mimics the merchant captain's enthusiasm, "Everyone, we have to go! NOW!" as he hears the guards encroaching. He bolts as quickly as one can while assisting the injured Mathis, "Haste is of the essence, chum!"
OOC:
dramatic task is a go!
Oct 20, 2022 5:26 pm
Sans follows the Captain in haste, keeping the hood up for concealment, so not to give the man any excuse to change his mind.

He pats Aloys' back in gratitude for securing the deal.
OOC:
my dice are ready too!

The Airship Market | Trouble Erupts
Mathis Baumé
Mathis winces as Issac helps him--rushes him--up the stairs. "I should have--OW--stayed in bed. I knew it..."

Down in the market, a sharp-eyed rifleman looks up in surprise and grabs his captains coat sleeve.

Rifleman
"Sir! On the stairs! There!"

Cavalry Officer
The captain's eyes widen. "Good spotting man!"

He shouts to be heard over the noise of the market. "Up men! Do not let those dogs get away!"

On the heels of the officer's shouts gearlock rifles whir and spark, sending musket balls slamming into the air-dock stairs!

OOC:
2 Rounds | 7 Success Needed: the stakes...your escape! First Round Order is as Follows:
[ +- ] Aloys is First
[ +- ] Issac is SECOND
[ +- ] Sans is THIRD

OOC:
I'm assuming we haven't reset our bennies yet, as this is still the same "game session"?
Oct 21, 2022 6:04 pm
OOC:
Oof. Two rounds and seven successes needed with no bennies? I'm sure it'll go great lol.
As bullets crack and smash against the stairs to the airdock, Aloys ducks and covers his head. His eyes look out for securements on the stairs; supplies and other things to knock over upon the men as they are pursued. As they run up and Aloys takes the back, he slashes at what he can with his blade to impede the enemy.
