Same on snake eyes! My weekly in person group started SWADE the year it came out (2019?) And we could probably count the number we've gotten--in dead lands one character has the hindrance that causes collateral damage to allies so its been obvious to us when it happens 😄

To be fair, two out of three of this game's fails were on d4, which is about 0.04 in probability in pair with d6. And X-Com taught me that 3-4% probabilities always proc, especially at the worst moment. XD

@FlyingSucculent - Your appraisal of Aloys is probably right; they come from totally different spectrums of life. If anything though, he hasn't treated her any differently than any other Gold Cloak and has only used his legerdemain for the benefit of the team. At least from what she has seen.

A little query on the in-game Government. I thought (from the game recruitment I believe) that the Queen had recently taken the throne, after the rule of the Duke of Strif had finished? I may have got this wrong. I noticed the Village Woman referred to the Duke as his Majesty.

Can you give us a sense of the hierarchy, @Dunko ? Is the Duke still in power, and if so, what is the Queen's role?

Great question! I pictured the Duchy of Strif being run as a petty kingdom at this point. Ostensibly, he'd owe fealty to the Queen who has now taken the throne, but the political climate would be one where the Queen's battle is for the hearts and minds of the other people and the other duchies. The Duke would have more prestige at this point but the Queen supposed to be first among peers.

Of course, the treaty signed after the Queen taking the throne is Still fresh, and maintaining it is priority one. Thus people having to put up with annoying or obnoxious diplomats

Ok, thanks for clarifying. So the Queendom is made of a few Duchys, with the Queen presumably ruling from a capital city.
We are currently in the Duchy of Strif, where people should recognise the Queen's authority.

Hope it's not tacky to advertise here, but I'm gonna be starting up a Deadlands (SWADE) sandbox campaign if anyone here is interested. Good or bad, it'd be kinda more of the same from this setting--SWADE + RP 1st approach + supernatural action/adventure.

Buy-in is crew who travels the west earning money by taking care of supernatural problems, or other odd jobs. Not leaning into the core published meta.

Also, question about this game: can I actually try my own Research on the appointment book? I couldn't find a definitive answer about retrying rolls in SWADE.

Great question! Generally I'll try to be clear when an individual characters failure shuts something down for the whole group--usually when really highstakes.

So I say, Elaine could definitely try her own roll of research!
