Character Creation

One of the cool things of GP is that it has a lot of tools build in that help you in your play.
With the custom settings you can build quite advanced character sheets.

The dice roller is one of the tools that help a lot here. As Jabes already said, it is common practice here to use the dice roller.
So let's just stick with the dice roller. GP provides basically everything needed to play.

I think that's also the "selling point" of this site is the post dice roller. I can't say I've seen this in other PbP sites I've been to.
I will admit it is a cool feature.

I've done comparisons with IRL rolls vs PBP dice rollers, however, and you statistically roll lower by a solid 10% with PBP rollers (used critrollstats for the IRL roll data). Strangely enough, though, it is near even with the occurrences of nat 20s and nat 1s.

The argument that it's "more fair" to use computer rollers is valid, but I've always thought that the tactile act of rolling dice is part of the fun of D&D. But DM rules reign supreme, so I'll learn to use it.

Feel free to offer suggestions if I do something weird. I've got some habits that may be hard to break, but I'll try my best to conform. :)

Cettish says:
You can do 2D20H1 for advantage and 2D20L1 for disadvantage.
The "H1" tells you it will only pick the highest 1 dice, and the L1 the lowest.
This roll syntax is a fairly new site feature that I keep forgetting to use. I keep doing it the old way. 😅

To speed up the posts at times, instead of calling for a perception check or so, I take the liberty of just rolling it :) That keeps the speed on posting.
I have absolutely no problem with the DM rolling for me. It really does help the naturally slow pace of PbP. In the sam3 vein, how do you feel about us rolling saves for monsters against our abilities? Of course we won't know their modifiers but we could roll unmodified d20s if that helps you at all, @Cettish.

Yes that would be great.
Plus it gives you some insight, if the roll is much lower/higher than the DC you'd generslly know the result already. Usually only rolls within 3, maybe 4 points of the dc will be questionable.

@Cettish I see that 3Mon successfully saved against being knocked prone by Yong but I think you might have forgotten to roll its saving throw against the Stunning Strike? It's DC 15 CON.

Ooh missed that.

(Admitting: I don't know much about monks as the class doesn't really appeal to me as a player, I always read up again what they can do)

Oops, I had Yong's AC marked on the sheet as 16 but it's actually 17. Unarmed Defense: AC = 10 + Dexterity modifier + Wisdom modifier. Fixed.

That means 3Mon only hit him once for 6 slashing.

In case anyone missed it, quoting here Cettish's post in the Absences thread.
Cettish says:
Life is a bit weird atm for me with quite some things going on.
I have been quite inactive the last two days or so, and this will probably go on a bit longer.
I will be back when I can. Hopefully around the weekend.

Thanks for letting us know. I've been having some life things come up too lately. It happens.

I'll stick around even if it slows down for a while. I'd like to figure this out!

Yeah take all the time you need to do what you gotta do IRL, folks. We'll be here when you return.

All. Due to reall life changes I will be available a whole lot less on GP.
As such I need to cut down the number of games I am in.
Because of the time it takes to GM, I am planning to close this game.
Sorry all.

I absolutely understand. Thank you for the time you spent with us, though! Take it easy.

I completely understand, @Cettish. Please take good care of yourself. I hope to game with you again in the future!

Totally get it. I hope everything gets better for you!
