Pine Lumber Town, Outside the Saloon - Rathgar
Sue Harmon
She's nervously checking her repeater, makin' sure a bullet is chambered and ready to go.

She responds to Rathgar. "It started 'bout six, maybe seven months back. First it was in the lumber camps, yonder up in them hills." A *clink* as she pulls the lever, chambering a round. "Couple nights in a row, an animal--a beat--tore through and left a trail of half eaten folk."

"It was just a couple nights an' nothin' more. So we thought it was a bear or somethin'. But then it happened the next month--just a couple nights but folk who live out in the pines got all tore up. Well...true to God...it's been happen monthly, and we've noticed it's the nights when the moon is full, or just about near so."

"Only half eaten? Is it just playing with these bodies then or just eating the more choice morsels? Seems mighty strange and oddly interesting.

Horace follows Jeremiah's eyes as it looks like he's seen something that grabbed his attention.

Something's up there, in the building!" Jeremiah shouts over the rainstorm around them, pointing towards where a furred figure can be seen entering through a window. Without waiting, the heavy man moves with surprising speed towards the doorway of the establishment and shoves his way inside. He begins to run up the staircase, praying to God to guide his hand and save whoever was there.
OOC:
That was supposed to be a Boost/Lower Trait focusing on Fighting. My fighting goes up one die type.

Horace chases after Jeremiah, yanking his hat down in front of his face so he can see through the pelting rain, and shouts, "What is it? What did you see?"

Stepping inside he shakes off his hat, draws his colt and looks up the stairs.

Nathaniel's outstretched hand falters as he sees a glimpse of what the big man spotted. As the man bolts across the street toward the building, the boy's grip tightens on the gun and he follows the strange, newfound defenders through the door. Once inside, he wants to take a second to adjust to the light and look around, but sees the big man hustling up the staircase. Dangit Mr., you're going to get yourself killed! he thinks, as he rushes up the stairs after him.

Townhome Interior, Second Floor | Jeremiah Cross & Nathaniel Bigby
Jeremiah, you make it to the second floor as you hear a *crash* from down the hall to your right--followed quickly by a young woman running in to said hall from a bedroom. She slams into the hallway wall while screaming at the top of her lungs.

Woman
She looks at you, terror in her eyes. You'd instinctually know that something is in the room she came out of--this is confirmed by a bone rattling roar erupting from said room.

Nathaniel your view is only slightly obstructed, over Jeremiah's shoulder perhaps, as you both see a massive, lupine muzzled beast creep into the hall.

Woman
The woman screams, "Dear God No!" as she shrinks against the wall.

Beast
The beast *snuffs* the air and turns to look at Jeremiah and Nathaniel drool streaming from it's open maw.
OOC:
Jeremiah and Nathaniel Fear Checks at -2 please!

Townhome Interior, First Floor | Horace Phinney
Marshall Harmon
Horace, the Marshall comes flyin' into the townhouse after you, still answering your question from outside.

"It looked like whatever it was would jus' eat the innards, but mayhaps it took some sorta pleasu..."

She bumps in to Horace's back. "What is it?! What's up there?!"
Sep 16, 2022 2:11 am
"Damned if I know ma'am. Ain't good whatever it is.

With the screams and odd noises, Horace is prepared for the worst as he slowly creeps up the stairs. His hat is still wet and drips some, leaving small puddles behind on the stairs.

Upon seeing the monstrosity enter the hallway, Nathaniel's heart quickens and he feels a strange, simultaneous mix of being both too hot and too cold. It quickly settles though, replaced with growing anger, as he sees the terrified woman being chased. He raises his gun at the creature and with a surprisingly steady voice, "You let her go! If you want someone to tussle with, we're more than happy to take you back to Hell!"

Jeremiah rushes up the staircase, grabbing from his belt the massive knife. Pulling it free from its sheath, he watches as the terrified woman comes out of the room. The roar of the unholy echoes behind her and the large man flips the blade in his hand as he waves her over.

"Go! Get downstairs and get to the bar!" Jeremiah bellows just as the abomination creeps out into the hall. Fur-covered and snarling, the primal instinct in him screams for him to run as his heart begins to race. The words of the young boy beside him, courageous and righteous alike, earns a grim smile from the man as his grip tightens on the blade.

"Come, hellspawn! Let us show you the face of your maker!" Jeremiah takes a fearless step forward, rising to his full height as a challenge. His free hand grabs the woman and pulls her behind him, out of the way of harm.

Town House, Second Floor -
Jeremiah you fairly drag the woman behind you. As the beast roars and lunges at you--it's meal priorities shifted!

Woman
She knocks into Nathaniel and tumbles down the stairs--though unhurt by the episode.

Beast
It's roar is loud enough to cause pain in your ears. It's clearly charging the large man, Jeremiah Cross.

The beast comes after the large man and Jeremiah lifts his knife defensively, getting ready to keep himself as safe as possible. The boy and the woman were his top priorities and part of that was being a wall to keep it from getting to them.

"Kid, line up a shot and take it. I'll keep it back as much as I can." The burly man says just as the beast begins to pounce.

Beast
Before the Beast can lunge again, Nathaniel's bullet slams into its thick hide, shaking the creature.

Beast
Its glowing eyes turn on Nathaniel and it roars at the young man before Horace's bullet slams in to its neck, from the stair landing below.

The Beast is clearly has lost its taste for this conflict and is beginin' to turn and scamper back down the hall...
