Welcome fossball

Welcome fossball.

What at you hoping to get from this game?

Do you have any past experience: with this game system (World of Dungeons), PbtA (Powered by the Apocalypse) games in general, other RPG systems, or with PbP (Play by Post)? It is fine of you don't, we can teach you as we go along.
Take a look at the Help! thread for guidance. Feel free to ask any question here or in the General Chat depending on where they seem relevant.

You can find the Game's Rule Book copied here for easy access. You may find Character Creation section useful as well.

Welcome!

Thank you,

I don't have many expectations. I am looking forward to a nice story with a bit of action.

I have some experience in D&D and Call of Cthulhu and a few smaller systems.
But I have no experience at all with this system, PbtA or PbP. But I am committed to act at least once a day.

I was thinking about playing a Cleric from the north lands. Norbert has taken a vow of poverty. He goes around the country with a hand-drawn cart and helps people see the way of his god (I have no idea which gods there are except Rayor). In the towns he visits he helps the people with small illnesses and performs masses and is know to preach a bit when he has had a few drinks.

I hope this is fine, I could also play Daryl.

Fossball,
For your character sheet you can go here. There's a create button and that will set you up with a basic character sheet.
(side note: I should really update that thing with fillable fields)

Right now we have 2 gods defined:
- Raynor: god of conquest (and fire)
- Larinia: godess of the moon

Not much is known about them aside from that. Feel free to create a new god :)

Also, you don't have to stick with the abilities within 1 class. Pick ANY 2 skills and ANY 2 abilities. You can mix them up.

You can also read the summary of what has happened so far. I think if you only ready the last 2 posts, that's enough knowledge to join.

Not a problem at all. We are all very friendly here, and happy to help teach what you need.

'All' the rules for this game are in the Rules thread, and you can get the official PDF from the author's sites as mentioned there.

World of Dungeons is a short and simple game, which is both a blessing and a curse. It is easy and quick to read, and you don't have to remember much, but it also assumes you are familiar with the basics of how things work, and does not include any help, suggestions, or examples of how to play.

We can teach you each aspect or mechanic as it comes up, and don't hesitate to ask theoretical questions about how things might work (in this particular game or in PbtA (or other games) or PbP in general).

Don't worry about messing up the character creation. We can chat about each choice as you make it. And, once you start doing things, if you find things are not working the way you thought they would, we can talk about you changing your choices to something that does work.

While you don't have to, it can help to read some full fledged PbtA games, Dungeon World is available for free at dungeonworldsrd.com, it is not the same game (ask if you want to chat about how it relates), so don't assume anything mentioned there is true here, but it might help a bit. Apocalypse World (the game started the whole Powered by the Apocalypse) is also worth reading, and is often given away free on the authors' itch.io. There are plenty of other PbtA games that might be interesting to you. Again, though, you don't have to read any of those, and there is the chance doing so could cause confusion with the 'subtle differences'.

Read through the rules and the start of the Character Creation thread to get you started, but please don't hesitate to ask any questions, and don't feel bad if the answer involves one of us pointing to where that question was already answered (we don't expect you to read everything, and the fact that others had the same question means it is 'not only you':).
TheGenerator says:

Or you can just write down the half-dozen things that make up your character. The sheets are not complicated. Feel free to start with that one, and use as much or as little as you like.

As soon as you have created a character sheet, go ahead and submit it on the Game Details page, and I will 'approve' it, then we can look at things as we make the character.

... thinking about playing a Cleric ...
That is always doable, but bear in mind that we have a 'cleric type' character already (Albert) but it should not be a problem to have more.

You might want to roll the dice and find out your Attributes before you decide. But you can play a cleric with any 'stats'. Your descriptions and choice of method will affect what stat you roll for each action, so, if you can make it make sense within the world, you may be able to use stats in unexpected ways.
fossball says:
... I have no idea which gods there are except Rayor ...
Neither does anyone else. If you want to play a cleric (or just worship a god) you get to define your god (or, at least, your belief in you god). You are welcome to use one of the ones mentioned by TheGenerator, and if you are also a follower of Raynor you two will come up with the aspects of that god between you, but your interpretations may be varied and conflicting. This will not lead to PvP (player versus player, or character versus character) conflict (er expect your characters to 'get along' and 'work together'), but your characters are welcome to disagree with each other.
fossball says:
... from the north lands ... goes around the country ...
Bear in mind that you Fresh Faced adventures, none of you have traveled the world and you don't know what is out there. So you are from 'these parts', if you want to call them 'the north lands' that is fine, we can even say they are 'north of where the others started'. The 'country' you have traveled is all around these parts, but even going to 'the next village over' will mean you are more travelled than 90% of the people you know.

It might make the most sense for you to not be from the village the characters find themself in right now (it is a bit limited in scope and rather insular), but you are welcome to be from here if you want, in which case we will welcome your input on the current situation. If you are not from right here, you might be from the main big town the others 'started from' or from somewhere closer to here. We also can work out those details as we play.
fossball says:
... taken a vow of poverty ...
Might be tricky in a game that uses old-school 'gold as XP'. But we can make it work. Don't bargain on leveling up, though.
fossball says:
... I could also play Daryl ...
No. But you could play another (unmentioned one) of Daryl's friends if you want. We don't need an excuse for your joining the party, but that could be one.

Then I would like to play one of the townsfolk:
Norbert the youngest son of a sheep-farmer. He has trusted dog and is very good with animals in general. He is very alert and know which plants he can eat out in the wild.

Where can I roll the dice for the attributes?

Cool.
fossball says:

Still currently sheepfarmers, or were your family displaced by the baron who bought their land? (Be careful of making it too personal, there should still be reason to adventure after sorting out the barons (and maybe getting your family land back).)
fossball says:
... has trusted dog and is very good with animals ...
Cool. Take a look at the Character Creation Rules thread, and maybe look at the Pet and Wild Special Abilities?
fossball says:
... alert and know which plants he can eat out in the wild ...
Maybe the Awareness Skill or Reflexes Special Ability, for 'alert' and Survival Skill for eating plants?

Of course, those are only suggestions, take something else if they don't fit what you have in mind.
fossball says:

The Character and World Creation thread would be place to roll Attributes, and arrange Skills(x2), Special Abilities(x2), and gear.
