HSI: The Island

Fafnir is impressed by this crew's abilities. As he hoists the bird with Halor, he reflects how Mauve barely flinched when the bird took a chunk out of her - a hard woman! And Halor had just performed a miracle before his very eyes. Astounding. Perhaps there was more to this god of his than he gave him credit? Could this god heal a demon infestation, perhaps? Nay, it was best not to hope.

OOC:
The group reunites at the beach (approximately 7 PM). You have one cooked bird and one fresh. Setting up camp will take until nightfall. Do you do anything before bedding down for the evening?

There are 3 watches through the night (8 PM to Midnight, 12 AM to 4 AM & 4 AM to 8 AM). How do you handle these hours?

OOC:
Gonnar will eat his fill of monster bird, check that the ship is still run ground, and take the first watch.

Fafnir utterly enjoys feasting on the big chickens. After all, it's the first meal he's eaten in weeks that he hasn't had to fight off waves of nausea. Shortly after finishing dinner, the tiredness hits him. He falls asleep mid conversation with a smile on his face, knowing the earth beneath him won't rock or sway.

"Who knows what the night will bring, but right now I am gods damned happy. You gotta take that when you can get it, ya know. You gotta take... that... Zzz..
OOC:
If we have excess people for watches, Fafnir will skip sentry duty tonight. He is in dire need of rest. If he's needed though, he will take a watch without complaint.

Gwydion will butcher the second bird like he did the first. He threads thin strips of meat on sticks with the intent of making jerky over the smoke of their campfire. He will offer to take first watch and tend to the drying meat as he listens for trouble.

Mauve is as tired as Fafnir. Despite her wounds being healed the excitement of fending off death has taken its toll on her and as soon as she has eaten her fill she is ready for sleep. Still, she manages to utter in a low whisper that the others may or may not hear, "We should bring the other bird to the crew on the ship... I'm afraid I won't be much use for a night watch..." and in mid-sentence, she drifts off to sleep, curling up into a ball by the fire, one arm flung over her bow.

Halor stands and stretches, a large chunk of greasy meat in his fist. He takes a bite and chews thoughtfully. "Not bad," he says, "We know at least one thing we can hunt here, I suppose. I'll take watch after Gonnar."

He considers Mauve's suggestion. "Those men likely know how to fend for themselves, and charity doesn't get them anywhere but dead if they can't. Yet, I am not heartless. Gwydion appears to be smoking the meat so that it lasts longer. We should take a portion for ourselves as we explore further, but it would be a show of good faith to bring some to the crew."

Gonnar eats voraciously, enjoying the meat a great deal compared to the hard tack and other miserable rations they had on the ship. Grease runs down his chew as he chews, and he talks despite having a mouthful of meat.

"It's good, very good." He nods at Smyth when the man mentions taking second watch, and talks through another mouthful of poultry when Mauve mentions giving the other bird to the crew. "They don't deserve it. But good idea. Stay in their favor. Make them forget you stabbed their captain to death."

OOC:
looks like there is two for first watch, one for second and no one for the early morning watch. Let me know if you want to change it up.

Roll a WIS test if you are taking a watch. If there are two on a watch, the highest WIS can roll with advantage.

OOC:
If Gonnar does not mind tending the meat, I can switch to third watch.
Oct 7, 2022 11:49 pm
OOC:
I don't believe the group has accomplished something to qualify for a level up, but that doesn't mean you can't do some carousing. Three of you are still awake if you feel like trying it out. It can always wait until later on. I just thought I'd bring it up as a reminder.

OOC:
I think we need a watch at all times. Gonnar can tend meat, or switch to the third watch as well if that makes sense.
Oct 9, 2022 12:06 pm
OOC:
Let's switch Gonnar to the third watch and I don't see how carousing would work or here goes the WIS check. WIS = 10

Rolls

Wis watch check - (1d20)

(16) = 16

OOC:
Halor's Wisdom Ccheck for 2nd watch

Rolls

Wisdom (14) - (1d20)

(14) = 14

OOC:
The ship most likely had a decent amount of alcohol aboard to keep the sailors happy during long, treacherous voyages. Due to limited space, the alcohol is most likely very strong. It's also safe to assume that hardened adventurers like yourselves would be sure to grab a flask or two each to make the adventure a little easier to handle.

You would eat and drink before bed. It could just be a quick meal or it could be a a bit of a party. I leave that up to you.

There is no need to roll food usage die as you have the chickens (now you have me calling them chickens). You should roll water usage die for supper. (I removed Alcohol usage as we need that for leveling - just assume you have enough).

The WIS tests were to determine your awareness during your watch.

OOC:
Gonnar's third watch.

For the water usage die, what size did we start with?

Rolls

Wisdom (9) - (1d20)

(19) = 19

Water Usage Roll (d20) - (1d20)

(4) = 4

Harrigan says:
For the water usage die, what size did we start with?
OOC:
You are full up on food and water. U20 to start.
Oct 9, 2022 8:16 pm
OOC:
Rolled. Be aware a d20 is a large usage die. On average, this means we're carrying enough water for about a month. I've personally always found the d20 an unrealistic UD for anything that is at all bulky.
Oct 9, 2022 10:37 pm
OOC:
Rolling water usage here. If we decide to drop it from d20, I'll do my reroll here as well.

Rolls

Water usage - (1d20)

(9) = 9

Day 1: 8:00 PM to Midnight
Gwyndion tends to the fire. He keeps the flames low, but alive through his watch. The island is alive with noise during the night. Animals cry out or roar in the distance. There is movement through the grass and in the canopy above. You circle round the camp ever so often to check the perimeter, but nothing breaks the jungle foliage surrounding the camp.

The night moves along and the strips of chicken have smoked long enough. You start to set them aside to cool. Once that is done, it'll be time for Halor to take over. You lay the strips on a nearby rock when a sound breaks the silence of the night. The noise is distant, but very much out of place. It's as if someone had toppled a cabinet of dishes. The crash of plates is short, but distinctive. Shortly after, you hear the deep melodic sound of a man's voice singing. It's too distant to make out the words, but the song has a sad, hymn-like quality to it.
