Rules and Mechanics

This is the last thread, I swear. Let's us this as a place to talk about rules or mechanics questions we might have both pre-RP or during.

Honestly I feel the book is very poorly laid out, but the core resolution mechanics feel straight forward 😆

How do you do dice rolling with the system on GP?

Personally, I just use the dice roller at the bottom of posts:

Then I'd add two rolls, one for trait dice and one for hunger dice.

Then you post like I'm doing now.

Rolls

Str + Brawl - (3d10)

(892) = 19

Hunger Dice - (2d10)

(62) = 8

3 successes were rolled above, and no Hunger Crits.

Feel free to experiment here and try it out.

Just a general comment on the v5 rules--I don't know about you all (I already noted this to Squad) but I love the v5 mechanics. I appreciate ttrpg systems that dictate emotional states with mechanics. I'm a believer in system supporting play style and the social and cinematic stuff here is great!

I'm having trouble squeezing an advantage I want into the budget - if I take an extra point or two in flaws, can I get an extra point of advantage? (Specifically, I'm trying to afford an Ally, which is pretty expensive in terms of dots, and I'd like to take and equally or more expensive Adversary to balance it out).

edit: Actually, never mind. Ally is too pricey at this point. it's something to work up to.

Giving Hunger Die Explanation here:

So, when your Kindred has Hunger (its a numerical value that goes up when you fail rouse rolls) you "swap out" an equal number of trait die for Hunger Die. They serve two dice pool purposes in play.

1. If you get a Crit Success (rolling TWO 10s) and at Least one of them is a Hunger Die you get a Messy Crit. This means you've gone a bit too far in your success, and likely exposed your true nature.

2. If you completely fail a roll AND you roll at least ONE 1 on a hu get Die you get a bestial failure. This means the beast has taken over and your actions result in a compulsion!

So Hunger dice get built into pools to create some vampire dramatics with the narrative dice.

Bestial Failure Resource!

Oh and to clarify me asking for the d10 roll with 3 and 6 as messy: that was just because we had a dice pool of 5 and didn't know which of the dice could have been your one Hunger dice. So it was just a 1 in 5 chance, thus the ask for the roll lol--its not a mechanic in the system
