"Beowulf’s Funeral," art by John Howe A place to lay your character to rest. Celebrate their triumphs, recount their glorious or ignoble end, it's all up to you.
Here lies Sir Michael Knight, Hellrider of Elturel, who tread the world lightly whilst on his crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless.
There was no fear nor regret in Michael's final moment. He did all he could in the best way he could. And he died fighting alongside his brothers. A Hellrider couldn't ask for more. That was an outstanding game run by @Adam! Ended in a TPK, but some of the best fun I've had in all my 35 years of gaming! Thanks also to my fellow players, @cowleyc, @runekyndig, and @RAAMtentacles! 🤘
There once were four young dumb knights,
Who thought they could win all the fights,
Until a devil appeared
And it was just as they feared,
As it turned all their plans into shite.
This was Swan. Humboldt Swan. Born a hobgoblin, raised by humans, and trying to be the ideal Knight and hellrider. During his descent into Avernus he struggled with his identity. By the end, he had realised and embraced that he was fay, through and through. A fay clad in cold iron. His fellow knights were his brothers, no matter who had born them because they were by his side to the end.
Yell, in hell they don't have horses, they have demonbikes.
Weekends, ottomans, monkeytree men, send me your cheers.
I have come to berry Kevin, not to braise him.
The Kathmandu lives after them; the good is oft slurred with their stones.
So let it be with Kev. The nobbly coitus Cath told you Kevin was fictitious.
If it were so, it was a mischievous fault, and intravenously hath Kev showered it.Kev was a confused mountain dwarf and devotee of the malapropism. He was a famously uncharismatic actor and quoter of Shakespeare (the Brad of Henry Ford). Little dude was proper crazy and had a tendency to fall from great heights onto his head. He ended up being absorbed by a gibbering mouther. I wonder whether anybody noticed the difference.Died at level 3 in SJoyner's Omega Zone.
This was Machi. He was an artificer who travelled Icewind Dale - Rime of the Frostmaiden with friends.
He chose his own death as he was bleeding out he unravelled his bag of holding causing a big explosion.
OOC:
Strangely enough this was also one of Adams games
An honourable mention is Eira, the small halfelf who Adam made roll deathsaves 2-3 times? Enough to start making his trademark videos.
OOC:
Again with my characters dying in adams games. Why do I keep coming back for punishment? Oh yes, because he is an excellent GM
Here lies Sister Alice, acolyte of the great Saint Cuthbert. Fearless and noble, she led her charges into the cursed moathouse at Homlett and met her fate between the jaws of a giant lizard. Beloved by all her companions, she will be missed.
Here lies Ishmael Brown, Agent Indigo. Man could shoot a neck out from across a parking lot. Sadly, he shot out one neck too few and it ended with him shot, puking extra-terrestrial maggots everywhere as he exited a crashed SUV via the back window.
Here lies Alaric Blackthorn, Paladin of Lathander and brother Hellrider. Alaric and his beloved, Oriana Heartfang, tragically met their end at the fangs of a Phase Spider. He is survived by his Mother and Father as well as 3 brothers and a sister. That is, until they were almost certainly slaughtered in the hellscape of Avernus.
OOC:
Alaric was my very first character death and is dearly missed.
In memory of Garyth Streiss MIA, Cleric of Kelemvor and brther Hellrider. Garyth joined his brothers Sir Michael Knight, Humboldt Swan, and Varrak "Finehair" Volosen in attempting to rescue their homeland of Elturel. Garyth's brothers fell in battle but his fate is unknown. He was last seen riding across the the ashen plains of Avernus. Fate has yet to reach a verdict on Streiss's destiny.
A member of the old and mysterious Ravenwraith family, Alabaster inherited the estate built and maintained by her reclusive uncle Vincenzo after his mysterious disappearance. She managed to clear out the spiritual manifestation in the house and moved into the mansion, where she became a beloved member of the nearby town's community for twenty years before she disappeared without a trace, just like her uncle before her.
Alabaster is survived by her estranged wife Marinette Brightshine as well as her two sons Bernard and Atterwall, to whom she left the mansion after her presumed death.
Karabekian sits on the floor, clutching his stomach, blood welling up in between his fingers. His old self shows through for only a moment before the madness takes hold once more. He grimaces at Larry's departing back, then Karabekian breathes his last.
Here lies Luis Joaquin Karabekian, bookstore owner and erstwhile investigator of the occult. His psyche shattered by the elder being, @Knifesedgegames, Karabekian turned on his companions and died of gunshot wounds to his belly. He is survived by his cat, Skywise.
Krocus was a manimal, a bear that walked and spoke like a man. His death was particularly sad, as it was one of random chance. The fault was not his own and he perished after a godlike being used him as a living projector. The effect melted him into a puddle of goo.
He perished in dominion451's Mutant Crawl Classics campaign.
Cap'n Awl, hon, deary, aspiring best mum in the world, was adopted as an orc pup to the good ship "The Grey Dragon" - except there was nothing good about them. They were privateers operating under charter to the Cormyrian navy. Cap'n Judas kept the hands of the Purple Dragons clean when plausible deniability was required.
Awl was a bright pup and learnt quickly at the elbow of the ship's Deck Wizard, Necromancer Riffy the riffy. She even helped Riffy with some of his, ahem, darker experiments. But when Awl was very young, Riffy tried to rip out her soul and put a new one in there, from Riffy's point of view - a better one - an eviler one. But Riffy, being a not terribly fastidious necromancer, didn't clean the old one out very well, and the new soul got kinda installed in there with the young orc's. It wasn't that Awl had a split personality - the personalities weren't split, they were just badly mixed.
With the guidance and incredible patience of her maties, Awl overcame her evil twinned soul and faced down a dark demon intent on conquering Faerûn whilst her crew despatched the dark lord.
In their escape from the demon's lair, rocks fell, and Awl died (a classic D&D death).
Awl is survived by her maties - Tommy, Clotho, and maybe even Bushy - if @aquafina ever gets around to rolling some dice.
Here lies Balin, who died in defense of Elturel. Though they are small, those little flying elephants are @&%#$.
May you forever nag the gods for the injustices of the world.
So many of my Hellrider brothers and sisters seek glory—to be immortalized by the bards and the written words. To be a Hellrider is an honor. It is a privilege, but it is a burden. This was never my calling—not in those glorious ways, to ride upon lightning and thunder into hell in splendor.
If I am to be remembered, I hope they speak of me with a gentle warmth, and say that I was a good man, and a good friend who lived in service to my people. Remember me for my brotherly bond with my fournie, and my undying love for Elturel.
We're bound by mortal covenant
That only ends with death
And so we'll sing of Elturel
Until our final breath
Lenny Died... There was nothing heroic about his death. Likely nobody will ever know. Lulu Might notice he's gone before what's coming to the city hits
This was a wonderful Coc game run by EdmundBalworth, Thank you everyone who participated, and thank You C1NDER for being on the exact same bandwidth when it came time for Lenny to die.
Last Will And Testament
To Mickey I leave my apartment, rent is payed three months in advance, as well as everything inside it.
To Lulu, I leave a ring, you can find it hidden underneath a small bush outside the apartment in a mahogany box. I wish I'd given it to you sooner.
To the police I leave a record of everything I've done under the employ of Declan McBride, it should be enough for him to rot in prison for years, and to Manny I leave $1000 on the condition that he doesn't work for Mr McBride in the coming trial.
Stephen Burnsworth of Boston, Mass, met his end in Devil's Canyon, California. Having been stabilised after a near-deadly attack by supernatural creatures, his caretaker, Mortician - Gerald Newcomber decided to open up the wounds to fix them better. It did not end well.
