Was Percival able to estimate the age of the specimen, by chance?

"Well, old boy," Percival says quietly to Gregory, his voice shaking as he speaks, "I think we have that groundbreaking discovery everyone wanted."

He stands, putting the KA-BAR back in its sheath, picking up his canary with his off-hand, and drawing his pistol again. "The obvious problem, beyond now being unsure how we will be leaving these tunnels, is that... there are more of these. A single individual does not sustain a... species? I'm not even quite sure how to classify our find, if I'm being honest. But I have very real concerns there will be numerous opportunities ahead."

With concern on his face, Harmon adds, To make matters worse, I don't think these things need light to see, while we do. They seemed to have no trouble finding and attacking poor Leland here.

He pauses and considers his next words before he continues. I think we should forget about finding Josh and focus on our escape from this place.
Once we are out, we can then get a search party. I can only hope and pray he is still alive.
He keeps his pistol out and he looks around as if he will be attacked at any moment.
OOC:
About how much longer will we have light?

A little Google suggests battery powered miner's helmets in the 20s lasted around 12 hours. So, more or less one full work day.

OOC:
The physiology suggests, if it were human, it would be mid forties.

"Thank you, Max," Leland says, somewhat ashamedly. "I let my fears get the best of me." Looking around at the others he adds, Sorry, gentlemen. Please forgive my weak-mindedness." He takes a handkerchief from a jacket pocket and begins mopping his face and brow with it.

With way you came in blocked, you retrace your steps back to the chamber with the huge reptile and dinosaur motifs. Another tunnel leads south out of that hall until you reach a crossroads. East and South both end in dead ends, but to the west there is a straight drop down 20 feet where the corridor continues westwards.

Let's get back in the house and call for some more help, if there are several more of those, we will all be killed !
Nov 20, 2022 4:23 pm
Gregory turns to Max.

"The way back to the house is blocked by this rubble. Unfortunately, looks like our only path forward is to make it across this chasm."

He shakes his head, looking at the others. "I hope someone brought some rope... I would rather try to make it across than go down into the chasm. In the darkness, who knows what more might await us?"
Nov 20, 2022 4:33 pm
"I have seventy five feet of sturdy rope, as well as some pitons and a hammer. I'd prefer not to cut the rope if we can avoid it, but at this juncture I'm primarily concerned with finding our egress. To whit... I agree that descending doesn't seem favorable in the least."

The best way is to find some kind of exit and the faster the better. If we go down I fear we'll get away from any exit and we will be trapped like rats. No way I'm going down there !

"While I share your concerns, Max, it seems to be the only pathway that's not a dead-end. The cave-in blocks the patb behind us, and the other two paths didn't lead anywhere," the Doctor points out. "Perhaps they were never finished? Regardless, the point is moot now. This appears to be our only option, outside of just sitting here until our light, food, and water all run out."

OOC:
So your options for getting down are straight forward.

You could tie a rope to one of the sturdy stalagmites here (Climb roll with a bonus die

You could climb using handholds in the walls (standard climb roll)

You could jump (jump roll, to minimise damage)

"This little adventure of ours has quickly turned into a nightmare," Leland says quietly while peering into the chasm.
Nov 21, 2022 11:33 am
Glancing over the chasm with a look of fear, Harmon steps back several steps. I don't think i can climb down this on my own. I have two left hands and I really don't want to fall to my death. Since we have to get down regardless, I suggest that we use the rope and climb down safely.

OOC:
If you go with Percival's plan of using pitons and creating hand holds, I'll give you 2 bonus dice, but someone will need to go down and set it up first.

Ooc: Leland will go first if no other takers. Not the best climber (20%) but can give it a shot.
