The Darkness Beneath the Hill

As the rest of you step closer you hear what at first sounds like a low wind. You soon realise that the sound is coming from the heads, moaning softly in an ululating chorus.

The heads have been preserved, with sinuous runes carved into their leathery flesh. Their eyelids are closed, and their mouths and the muscles of their throats move as they sing. Some of the heads belonged to men of European descent, while others belonged to men and women of African descent.
The whispering song issuing from the peaceful heads has a sort of beauty, but viewing this monstrosity calls for a Sanity roll (1/1D4 Sanity points loss)
OOC:
What exactly is your goal for that Occult, Gregory?

Harmon steps forward with a horrid fascination. He stammers as he tries to put his thoughts into words.
Who build this... who could build this? For what purpose?

Gazing at the runes, Harmon will try and decipher the runes using either his knowledge of history or of latin.

To me it is like an organ but instead of pipes it is human heads, I wonder if they are still thinking stuck in these tubes ! It is all so horrible.

Gregory stands back, aghast.

"No... this can't be happening. This is some sort of prank, a joke. Joshua is having a laugh at our expense, that's what this is."

He begins to mutter to himself, fishing through his briefcase for some sort of equipment to prove that what he is seeing is a hoax.
OOC:
Purpose of the Occult roll was to determine if there is something here he is missing about their whereabouts, whether it is the writing or anything that relates to any sort of ancient culture or belief system. However, with the heads actively singing, I think I'm good to not roll.

Leland, upon seeing the monstrosity before them, can only stare and shake his head slowly. "God in Heaven," is all he can manage to say.
He is unable to pull his eyes away from the abomination. "I can't believe what I'm seeing. This is madness."

Ooc: Leland will also do an Occult check. Just trying to recall ever hearing or reading about anything like this in all his years of studying the Occult.

And I'm afraid this is only the beginning, I bet we will find other creatures like the one we met, it doesn't look like a one creature lair.

Let's continue and try to find an exit.

Shaking himself free from his stupor, Gregory makes his way after the group and grabs Percival's sleeve. "I do not see how going further down will help us. Is there no way to get back up? We need to be finding ways to climb."

The big man looks up and around through the passageway, looking for any route that might lead upward, a window or secret tunnel.

"I agree. I truly do. The issue is that there is no means of exit where we came from. We must search for another way up and out. We'll find it... we have to," the Doctor tries to reassure the man, even as his own voice falters. Panic creeping in around the edges, uncertainty nipping at their heels... Percival is beginning to lose hope. Clinging to his profession, his need to be positive and encouraging even in the face of bad news... it borders on all he has left.

Harmon stares at the runes and mutters to himself, where did these come from? Who made this? How? Why? An unknown civilization. An unknown people.

He perks up as if snapping out of a daze. In order to preserve the horrid memory of this place he will take a picture. Surely no one would believe him otherwise.

He continues as he takes the picture, This is all so unbelievable. This whole area should cave system should not be here. But I doubtbthat there was only the one entrance. More then likely we will escape soon and have a long walk back to town. He says this to convince himself as much as the others.

Leland stands staring up at the abomination, shaking his head slowly. Suddenly he jumps as if startled. Turning to face the rock chair formation, the book dealer lets out a loud, terrified shriek. "You!" he cries, face contorting into a mask of insane bewilderment. "You!" he cries again, this time on the verge of tears. He takes up the ax that he has been using as a crutch and raises it over his head. He hobbles toward the chair, the broken leg and the pain seemingly forgotten. As he nears the chair, Leland begins swinging the ax in wide side to side arcs. "You'll not have me! he bellows. "You'll not! His bellows soon turn to desperate sobs as he continues swinging the ax. "Die, you'll not have me! Die, die, die...!!"

Calm yourself, Leland, you only hurting yourself.

Everybody listen to me, this is a strange occurrence, it is frightening, we have in front of us a hidden civilisation that hates us, it appears to us as non-natural, but it is completely normal. They are the foes in the shadow and we are scare of them, be brave all of us, they are made of skin and blood we killed one of them !

They're alien to us that is all.

Leland continues swinging the ax and attacking the rock chair, seemingly unaware of Max's words. "Die! You'll not have me!" Leland's words are punctuated by the clanging of metal on stone. Sparks fly with every strike. "You'll not have me!"

Looking at Leland with some alarm, Harmon tries to speak to him. My god man! Pull yourself together. I know this place is getting more and more dangerous, but that is no excuse to act like an animal.
Harmon will make an attempt to grapple with Leland in hopes that Leland will snap out of whatever is affecting him... or at least to allow someone to examine him.

Can someone take a look at Leland? He is acting very weird. I'll try and hold him down.
