Cualli will ascend to the upper floor in the same manner that he descended earlier in an exhale of levitating smoke.

Irritated with the kobolds behavior, It's not called running away if you intend to return, now cut that out!

"Charming," Verin quips dryly as she begins to climb.

Irritated at the Kobolds, Rythorn yells back at them as he tries to climb out of the hole. "We're not being cold hearted! We're trying to make sure that we don't all die!"

"SILEEEEEENCE!" S'Sylin thundered over the kobolds.

"Do not doubt me, small ones! I am getting a Witch who can melt the great ice monster! I shall be back soon!"
Whether the professor was capable, let alone willing of such an act S'Sylin was unsure of but that hardly mattered at the moment.
OOC:
Isn't it Athletics to climb? If so I get a +6

OOC:
It is Athletics to climb, sorry. I was thinking in a different system when I wrote that, so we'll just say it can be the best of either.
Everyone manages to haul themselves up - everything other than Rythorn that is, who's knocked down by a well-placed rock hitting his hand as he tries to grab a handhold. As the rest of the group reaches the upper level of the caves and relative safety, Rythorn is quickly surrounded by a circle of spear-wielding kobolds. "We keep this one to make sure you come back!" One of the kobolds pokes him rather unnecessarily, and does it hard enough to hurt. "Otherwise, we stab!"

You're able to make it back to Professor Alacandra with little issue, and quickly explain the situation to her. Clearly worried about the student who didn't make it back, she pauses her work and heads back with you. "We'll soon put those creatures in their place! Show me where they are!"
OOC:
There's no problem leading her back, but I'm leaving space here for any sort of discussion you feel is needed with the Professor regarding the kobolds' situation.

Verin will give the professor all of the information on the walk back.
Feb 8, 2023 7:03 pm
Rythorn moves towards the wall and slightly unsheathes his blade if the Kobolds will allow it.
Feb 8, 2023 8:03 pm
The kobolds let Rythorn examine the wall, but the moment he starts to loose his sword, he's surrounded by tiny hissing lizards with spears pointed at him. His sword glows brighter though the closer he gets to the wall, and the kobolds start to mutter amongst themselves and give him some room.
Feb 9, 2023 1:12 pm
Rythorn draws his sword out completely and attempts to read the runes under its light.
Feb 10, 2023 1:34 am
Oh don't worry too much about Rythorn professor, he was in one piece when we left him, and I'm pretty sure he could handle himself if he had to, I mean probably anyways, right? at least until we got back anyways, I mean, I think he could, although, there sure were a lot of kobolds down there... and they did seem pretty annoyed that we were leaving... Cualli picks up his pace a bit being careful to avoid anything that might trigger new and undiscovered traps.I mean he's probably just fine. right?
Feb 15, 2023 6:54 pm
Under the light of Rythorn's sword the runes begin to light up, one by one. The stone around the doorway shakes, and even up above you can feel it as the dust shakes from the walls, probably amplifying Cualli's fears about unnoticed traps. You arrive back at the kobolds' gate as the runes are halfway lit up.

Professor Alacandra is visibly alarmed. "Someone get him away from that gate. If it's not too late already. We have no idea what those runes are set to do."

The kobolds appear to have more knowledge though, even if they have far less sense. As the middle rune begins to glow, they start to mill about, screaming and running in every direction, so they clearly understand something, or think they do.

"RY!! STOP!!"

Verin bellows as best she can as she navigates the chamber, trying to race towards the Dragonborn.
Feb 15, 2023 9:21 pm
Professor, I don't understand! Are the runes activated because of the light? Or because he is reading them?

If she answers "because he's reading them" I will cast Dancing Lights to disrupt his reading.
If she answers "because of the light" I will NOT cast Dancing Lights but race with Verin toward Rythorn.
If she doesn't answer I will wait.
Feb 16, 2023 2:51 am
Oh man. What is happening Ry? Did you just open the door to a giant? or a monster? or a giant monster?!. Cualli keeps his eyes on the doorway.
Feb 16, 2023 9:49 pm
S'sylin follows the local wisdom and moves for cover.
Feb 18, 2023 11:56 am
Hearing Verin cry out, Rythorn turns to look at her running towards him. He's stopped reading for a moment but still holds the glowing blade over his head. "Hey! You guys made it back. I think I've made some progress here."
Feb 18, 2023 2:28 pm
"PUT THE SWORD AWAY! YOU'RE TRIGGERING THE RUNES!!"
Feb 18, 2023 7:43 pm
Rythorn lowers his blade and begins to put it away. "What's all this about. Aren't we trying to read these things?"

Professor Alacandra

OOC:
Well, I am alive, if only just barely.
Professor Alacandra
Rythorn puts his sword away, and the runes' glow stops progressing. It does not, however, recede. What is more, the levers you found earlier that seemed to match are also both glowing a little, one up on top and one down below. The kobolds have, at this point, given up on everything but cowering on their side of the open area, back behind the pillars that are holding up their tunnels. Their muted whispers and pointing are enough to make anyone just as nervous as they are.

Professor Alacandra is a bit more reserved in her judgment at first. Then she sees the opportunity to turn this into a learning experience. She raises her hands, waiting for all to calm down. When the kobolds have quieted a bit, she gathers you all around. "Many times when exploring old civilizations, we come upon dangerous, unknown things. This is part of why your training semester was to take place here. I could give you the solution to this - or at least one step of it; some things are as unknown to me as they are to you - but you would be better served by figuring as much of this out yourself. I will guide you through the steps you should take, but you must answer the questions that arise and make the final decisions.

"The first question is, 'Is everything as it seems it is?' I believe we can now tell, thanks to Rythorn and his sword, that things are not. So now we have to answer, 'If things are not really as they seem, what is being hidden?' Often times the past hides the answers to that question. How can we determine what the past is hiding? What do you think?"

She turns to Rythorn. "And why would your sword be reacting to runes on a wall?"
Feb 28, 2023 7:18 pm
To Rythorn, Didn't you say that sword had been handed down through your family. May I take a look at it? How old is this thing anyway?
