O.K., Bev thinks, this creature isn't 'on their side', no way José!. She shoves the fulcrum and in one pocket, and the dangling chord in the other.

It turned when that other kid entered--does it see?!

Well let's try, full power!

Bev throws on a pair of cheap Ray-Bans and reaches into her coat. She squeezes the wires of her gadget, closing the circuit manually!

Glad to be free of the claustrophobic durt tunnel, Johnny staggered out of the hole into the purple-lit hollow far below the tree. Wiping the long half of his hair out of his face with muddy hands, he got a good look at the wormy horror...

The Hunters are made of stern stuff - and the sight of this thing disgusts them without overwhelming them.

They all have to cover their eyes, as a bright light flashes from the girl shoulders!

Worm Thing
The horrific creature seems to pause and stumble for a moment. It seems stunned by the light.
OOC:
being an unusual compound creature, it does not rely on sight alone to 'see', but it will be affected some by the beams. a -1 to its actions, and the Vigor roll to recover is still at -2 for the Strong option you spent points on.

Alana "Al" Patterson

Nov 24, 2022 9:20 pm
Seeing that the worm creature looks temporarily stunned, Al jumps straight into action. She remembers that scooping water from the Ajewia worked to hurt it so she hopes that breaking the worm-thing apart will also destroy it. She braces herself, closeing her mouth and pinching her nose shut and then tackles the worm, hoping to break through it...
OOC:
Woo! Go, Al!!

OOC:
For the sake of letting us move forward, I assume this is a hit with a raise, so I'll roll my Strength plus a D6. If that's wrong, feel free to disregard something or roll any additional dice still missing
Alana "Al" Patterson

Rolls

Strength - (1d4+1d6, RA)

(3) + (4) = 7

Alana lunges forward with great precision and plunges right into the writhing nightmare with great force, expecting to find its body solid and easy to tackle. However, her arms grab at nothing, the worms move out of her way just to reform behind her arms after they have passed through, with unbearable squelching noises. It is like hitting jelly... with the jelly letting her in to simply reform after she's gone.

The others see Al wading through the centre of the wormy figure, trying to grab it. The worms scatter and squirm away, to then recompose the thing.
OOC:
Al finds out there is very little to tackle! However with her raise I'll give her this snippet:
In the brief, surreal moments in which she is inside the worm-thing, she catches a glimpse of a dark core at its centre, something more solid against the ever-changing tide of the wiggling beings. It is just a glimpse, then the sight is covered once more by thousands of worms....

Worm Thing

Worm Thing
The thing extends two long writhing limbs, made of thousands and thousands of living things....
One limb goes to Bev, the other tries to push Alana...
OOC:
this thing can attack twice in a round this way, extending tentacle-like appendages and controlling what is solid and what isn't within its body. If it causes a wound, some special effects may be triggered.

Rolls

vs Bev, 1d6+2 attack -1 blinded - (1d6+1, RA)

(5) + 1 = 6

vs Al, 1d6+2 attack -1 blinded - (1d6+1, RA)

(2) + 1 = 3

Nov 24, 2022 11:35 pm
OOC:
-a miss vs Al.
-a hit with raise vs Bev Parry 2, roll 6: 2s, 6r1

rolling damage + bonus d6, vs Bev's Toughness of 4
With a squelchy impact, the pseudopod hits Beverly full-on, smacking her hard. She spins for the shock, and has to take two steps back to avoid falling.
OOC:
Toughness 4, roll of 6: 4s. Bev is Shaken!
the Worm thing now tries to recover from the blinding light with Vigor
edit: it succeeds, no longer 'blinded'

Rolls

damage+bonus - (1d6+1d6, RA)

(2) + (4) = 6

Vigor (-2 for Strong lights) - (1d10-2, RA)

(9) - 2 = 7

Logan
Logan grabs the baseball bat from his backpack and charges the thing, swinging it hard at its 'body'.
This time the Worm thing seems more reactive, and moves quickly out of the way, creating a hollow in its body that lets the baseball bat through, then reforms once it has gone.

Jack the Ripper
Ripper, finding herself all alone in the passage, decides to leap into the round tunnel to search for her human friends. She jumps in the dark passage yelping and scrambling a little with her short legs, then makes it inside the circular passage and starts advancing in the dark...
OOC:
card dealing time! Only 26 cards left in the deck, I expect some Jokers!

1d6 : (3) = 3

Jack the Ripper
Ripper bravely carries on towards the voices ahead. Eventually she finds the end of the round tunnel and drops in the cave. She recoils immediately at the sight and smell of the writhing thing confronting her friends!
OOC:
Fear check for the doggy!
Ripper whines loudly and a small puddle darkens the ground where she is standing. She turns around and hops back in the round tunnel, her paws scraping at it as she tries to scamper away from this horrible danger!

Worm Thing
The thing focuses on the aggressor with the bat, sending both writhing limbs to clutch him! It now moves with great speed...

Rolls

Ripper Fear check (Spirit) - (1d6, RA)

(1) = 1

Pseudopod 1 vs Logan - (1d6+2, RA)

(4) + 2 = 6

Pseudopod 2 vs Logan - (1d6+2, RA)

(661) + 2 = 15

OOC:
ouch, two hits. Parry is 5.
Pseudopod 1 is a 5s
Pseudopod 2 is a 5s, 9r1, 13r2 so it will add 1d6 extra damage.

DOUBLE OUCH - Toughness 4, roll 18: 4s, 8r1, 12r2, 16r3 this would be Shaken and 3 wounds!

Logan tries to Soak, spending a Benny for a Vigor check. He rolls a heroic 13! 4s, 8r1, 12r2
He absorbs 3 wounds - having no wounds left, the Shaken status also is removed
Whack! Whack! The pseudopods impact with extreme violence on Logan!! He is projected back in the air and crashes on the ground. All other hunters hold their breath, but Logan surprises everyone bouncing back on his feet, shaking his head to clear it!

Logan
He picks up his bat again and shouts a defiant "That the best you can do, bag of bait??"
OOC:
Logan is up!
He decides that the thing is a little too hard to hit, it seems to dodge and reshape itself past the blows. He tries to sprint left, then right , then left again to confuse it.
OOC:
Logan tries an Athletics test, vs Agility.
The thing does not seem to fall for it, it stays balanced and focused, making Logan's attempt vain.
OOC:
round order:

-Worm
-Logan

-Al

"There's something inside of it!" Al shouts. She throws herself at the worms again, this time trying to reach for whatever dark core she saw before.
OOC:
Not sure what to roll for that, so I guess I roll Gighting. If that's wrong, let me know.
Also, there's probably a penalty for my action or something
Alana "Al" Patterson

Rolls

1d6 : (5) = 5

Nov 25, 2022 6:26 am
OOC:
it would be a Called Shot. To hit something that size applies a -2 to the roll, either for Fighting, for Shooting if you have something to shoot, or Athletics if you throw something at it.
Nov 25, 2022 6:38 am
OOC:
I won't spend another Benny this round, so that's my turn. Maybe one of the others can finish what Al tried

Worm Thing

Worm Thing
the creature seems to have found a renewed vitality, after being slowed down by the blinding lights. It sees Al charging and forms a surreal arch above her. Where her target was, it is no more in an instant.
As Al turns, the archway she ran through is closed again by a thousand glistening worms...
OOC:
over to Bev, who is currently Shaken
Nov 25, 2022 1:32 pm
Still shaken by the blow, Bev attempts to refocus and act...

...but this is the first time she's taken a hit, and experience is a lot to handle.

The glistening mass of worms is revolting to her. But worms dont glisten when they're dried out..

Bev runs to the tunnel mouth, where the dog is scampering up. She turns to see if the creature interested in following her, or more accurately, the fulcrum in her pocket...
OOC:
Done! Moving and seeing if the creature wants the item 👀
