Welcome @erter
This is where we can discuss charsheet creation or anything else. Start by going through the Welcome thread and let me know if you have any questions

Thanks. The basic idea I have right now is my character being the youngest son in a large but not very influential noble family. Since his inhertinance would be little more than breadcrumbs, he became a soldier of fortune, hoping to carve out a place for him in the world that way. Not sure about race yet. Probably Human, but Salimar seems like it could be fun to play around with as well. For a character like that, what would his trade be? Simply mercenary?

The "Trade" is a general category that reflects your experiences for skill checks. Soldier it general mhow ore low class and may not reflect you noble upbringing. How about squire, knight, scion, or officer of the guard?

Note that I have limited characters in this game from the default Tiny dungeons rules in that they only start with 2 traits and not weapon mastery. If you want you may use one of your trait to gain a weapon mastery to reflect your militant background.

I think knight is probably the best one, that reflects both his martial skills and his upbringing and heritage as a minor noble. Would I be able to begin the game with a horse or would that be too much for a starting character?

A trained battle mount would cost a trait. This would cover your skill in handling it and allowing it to fight. The mount obtained with a trait does not need to be as simple as a horse. A basic riding animal would be possible without a trait but you would have trouble controlling it in combat.

I'm okay with using a trait to get a proper war horse. Would my character having some knowledge about court etiquette, chivalry and that kind of stuff be part of his trade as a knight or would that be a seperate trait?
Dec 10, 2022 1:20 am
This game assumes everyone has common setting knowledge and uses Trade to cover basic lifestyle knowledge and skills. Knight would include courtly etiquette, codes of chivalry, weapons and animal handling and maintenance, etc. Any thing within reason is included. If there is something not commonly associated with a knight but you would like to include let me know and we can discuss adding it in as part of your backstory.

That makes sense. A question about weapons on horseback. I assume you are only able to use light weapons when fighting on horseback, since heavy weapons require two hands?
Dec 12, 2022 1:23 am
I will allow heavy weapons as many cavalry used weapons with a greater reach
As you used a trait to aquire the mount I see no reason it cannot be used hands free, responding to whistles, hand signals, knees or any other designated signals.

Sounds good. I think I have pretty much everything sorted out, the only thing I'm not sure about is what my starting gear looks like. Is it just your adventurer's kit? Also, is there any place you want me to write out some basic things about my characters personality and backstory?

I added a rough draft of the horse to the sheet and updated the layout to fit it better.

I will start your character thread tonight. Make your first post in that thread when your feel ready and we will go from there

Looks like you have not yet selected a minor magic item. It can be any minor affect but does not have any mechanical advantage. Something like a magic saddle, armor that keeps you cool, a waterskin that refills itself, etc.

For a minor magic item I was thinking of a glowing dagger? Kinda like the dagger in LotR that glowed when Orcs were nearby, expect this one would just always glow if it is dark.
