TREASURE and glittering gems; dark places beneath the earth where monsters dwell; magic circles, pentagrams and pentacles; runes of evil import, and iron-banded doors of mouldering oak; wizards of vast power, living in their isolated towers above black seaside cliffs; great-horned demons in their bloody lairs; massive stone idols with jeweled eyes and hieroglyphic pedestals, carved in the distant eons before the young civilizations of humankind; strange and glowing orbs, floating in the air above rusted metal grates leading to deeper levels of the underground passageways…

It is about flying carpets and cursed blades, about hooded priests gathered for unspeakable rites in their forgotten temples; it is about adventure and about perilous undertakings, forcing back the evil creatures of Chaos from the borderlands of embattled civilization; it is about battle-scarred warriors and deadly sorcerers…

It’s about SWORDS & WIZARDRY

The Pitch: Tomb of the Iron God is a highly rated beginner dungeon for Swords & Wizardry, bringing level 1 characters through an ancient temple. I would like to run four players through this, partially to explore the S&W ruleset and partially to enjoy a highly-rated module.

The Tone: As Swords & Wizardry is an OSR-style game, the tone is much darker than modern iterations of D&D. Players will take the roles of men and women a cut above the rest as they explore a ruined temple in search of treasure. Characters will likely die, and the survivors will have opportunities to return to town to replenish their numbers and supplies. But do so at your own risk, for whatever lurks in the dark might just reinforce as well. Do you have what it takes to survive the Tomb of the Iron God?

The Applicants: S&W is an OSR retroclone that trims down many of the rules from OD&D and tries to make them easier. Shorter race blocks, unified saving throws, and simplified ability scores all make this a game that most anyone should be able to handle, regardless of experience. I welcome all players, so long as you understand the tone and the in-game danger.

The Posting: First, applying to this game is agreeing to make a post daily, excluding weekends. We all have real lives, however, so I understand if someone might slow down for a while. Communication is key! In regards to the actual posts, I don't mind shorter sentences or paragraphs you might see as an example of play in a rulebook. So long as you keep pushing the game foreword.

I ... am in a bunch of games. But this pitch is very appealing.

I can do the post rate almost always; weekday evenings are my sweet spot for play by post.

Loving the pitch, have enjoyed S&W in past games.

Please add me to some kind of nice list.

Love the setup. May I ask which ruleset? White Box, Core, Complete?

I plan on it being mostly Core, but some optional material being pulled in from Complete (a few extra classes for replacement characters) should we want it. It doesn't help that the free pdf I have is Core and the SRD is Complete...

Can do! You've been scribed!

My current schedule would probably make daily postings a little wonky on Wednesdays and Thursdays, however I would be happy to make that up during the weekends.

If that's fine for you, I would be happy to join, otherwise I am good with leaving the spot open for others!

All, I'm heading out for a ski weekend. I'll be back tomorrow night and will see who's interested.

Never played swords & wizardry but keen to find a new game as one of mine recently finished and another in close to ending.

Happy to put my hand up for a new adventure and learn something new, can post at stated rate and not worried about in-game danger (not all heroes make it to the end).

Throwing my name in the hat as definitely interested in playing in this game!

Not currently in any PbP games as a player or GM but have run and played in many long-lasting games on another site. Daily (Monday to Friday) posting should not be an issue for me, especially if every post doesn't have to be a short story :)

I have played Swords & Wizardry a few times and am familiar with the rules. I am familiar with the proposed adventure, have never played or read it, but am keen to give it a try.

Please let me know if you need any additional information. Would greatly appreciate joining this cast!

At a ski lodge with some service.

Looks like we have more than enough folks! I'll send invites to everyone here, and if you aren't feeling it then feel free to decline. Harrigan, I know you didn't give a firm yes.

Yeah, I'd love to play but I need to hold off -- Dunko's post-punk game is starting up, and I'm launching a SWADE game of my own. I need more time in the day! (And night...)

Opening up recruitment again to hopefully find two adventurous folks. We've explored some of the ruins and even received a quest from a god! There's plenty of treasure to be had. Come one, come all two!

Hola! Still looking for folks? Never played S&W, but I'm familiar with OSE, AD&D, and ACKS. Also this would be my first game on GamersPlane, so I hope that's okay too.

I'm absolutely still welcoming players! S&W is really just a trimmed down OD&D, not entirely dissimilar from OSE (from my perspective). It also has a free SRD located here!

I'll send you an invite, and we can work on getting you a character and introduced to the party!

I'm so down for this! I've made use of Matt Finch's Tome of Adventure Design and have been interested in actually playing S&W. I've been really keen on OSR content in general lately but haven't had a chance to be a player, so seems like a great chance to get my feet wet.

And that makes two! Closing this for now, but who knows what the future holds!

In case a spot should open in the future, do consider me please.
