Nathaniel watches the scene unfold before him. Instinct has him rush toward Annabelle to try and help, but as soon as he sees the metal symbol, he gets weak in the knees. Quite literally

She turns to Twilight as the redheaded witch looks at the tree. "Maybe we should leave it alone," she suggests. "I don't want you to get hurt, like Dawn." She smiles at the blonde witch as she mentions her name, then turns to her relatives again. "In fact, perhaps we should all just leave this mansion. I am abandoning the Rookwood family, but you should leave as well. So many bad things have happened since we arrived here."

Alexander stares at the spot where Annabelle once was. The glass syringe sits on the pile of ash, flashes of light reflecting off it then disappearing into the man's shadow as he mutely retrieves the needle and plunger. He turns to the girl whose name he cannot find. "I've heard nothing of her—dead or alive—since that day. My love for her never died, though... Not until today."
He looks to the others. "I agree with... her. There is nothing for us now. Nothing for us here. What could be hidden in this old tree that would convince us otherwise?"

"I've no great attachment to the Rookwood name or family, uhm present company excluded of course. But as Rookwoods, to we have a responsibility to stop the evil here from spreading, or hurting people in the town?" Nathaniel ask, and then starts looking around. "Either way, we can't leave without Elias."

The witches look at each other. 
"Maybe preventing the ritual is enough to close the barrier?" Dusk suggests as you all prepare to move away from whatever dark ritual the "family" is involved in. "Take Dawn with you. The girl in town. She can help. I'll stay. Make sure no more creatures escape."
Twilight agrees with he other woman and pulls up Dawn to her shoulder with surprising ease. "Where is this ... Elias you speak of?"

Meanwhile, Alexander fetches a nearby torch. As he does, the light of the flames disappears around him, making him look like a hellish silhouette. He opens a flask of oil and pours it all along the roots of the rotting tree. Then he sets it alight.

alexandre is trying to burn a supernaturally cursed tree so I’m going to use this as an excuse to ask for a weird 3d6 roll.One risk is burning the house down. Another is to piss whatever is hiding inside.
A reward is to burn the tree but the "chamber". A second reward it to burn everything inside the chamber.
Max successes you can get is 3 (unless you find another use for an asset) so I think this way it will be an extra twisty suspenseful roll. Probably one of the last major ones
