Awesome prologue so far. Can't wait to see who plays with us but am staying patient.

Welcome to the game Seck and Dragonling. Have a look around and let me know if there are questions. Look forward to playing with everyone. I will post the starting scene soon-ish and will unlock the in character thread whenever we are ready to start.

By way of introduction, I have been involved with D&D since AD&D and have been playing play by post for about five or six years (on and off).

That reminds me, is D&D or PbP new to anyone (not an issue either way)

I've been a dnd 5e player since February 25, 2021 but this year is my first time doing play by post dnd games as a dm and player

I am new to PbP, but not to D&D. I also go as far back as AD&D, but it has been a little while since I've played. This will be fun!

Ok I posted the opening scene. This is a good time to agree on a goal. Some obvious ones might be to escape, survive the journey… something else.

Additionally, there is no rush to get started as it is New Year’s Eve but we can talk about what we are thinking about for strategy as well.

Veronica's goals are definitely to survive the journey and try to escape after encountering the Chieftain and arriving to their Stronghold/Keep. She'll probably end up trying to steal things from her captors too. Whatever happens after the escape is up to her and the others.

Wonder what happened to those two prisoners at the bonfire though. Hope the Orcs didn't make them fight or eat them or whatever. I hope they at least give the prisoners water to drink even if they don't get food. Veronica doesn't have to breathe but needs to drink and she gets her nourishment from the life energy of others though she can eat regular food.

Can't wait until we get to post in the in character thread soon.

Btw, what type of Orcs are these, are they the green World of Warcraft type orcs, black orcs or what? Just curious.

I know Veronica probably got captured by the leader of the Orc raiding party who is probably a relative to the Orc Chieftain or whatever.

Also Veronica is an Arcane trickster rogue but being bound by ropes staked to the ground, she can't use her mage hand right now or anything so she is helpless against the Orcs right now. She could spider climb but can't right now. All she has to use right now is her vampiric bite of her long needle like vampire incisors if any of them gets close.

How did everyone get captured by the Orcs anyway? Just curious. Veronica got surrounded by a large orc raiding party after she tried to flee from them in a city who quickly grabbed and tied her down with rope and tied rope around her neck to fashion a collar before they tied her down to the other prisoners to take her to their leader. Iron would've worked better for her considering she is an Arcane trickster rogue but the Orcs probably weren't thinking about that at the moment.

As for goal, I want to get one for the party rather than everyone having their own. Is everyone aligned to lay low to survive the journey?

Laying low to survive the journey is fine by me! Being bound at the moment makes a means of escape quite difficult.

Dennan stays aware that his wolf companion may be nearby and is definitely following the party. He also is trying to examine the other captives to determine who could be of assistance during an escape.

Further, based on him picking up on some apprehension in the ranks in respect to brazen "devotion" to, presumably, their current leader, Dennan is waiting for an opportunity to exploit this and will hide is ability to understand the orcish tongue until revealing it can be beneficial, perhaps to create a distraction during an escape plan that plays into the orcs apparent doubts.

Is there anything Dennan may recognize (traits, emblems, runes, etc) about this party of orcs, like anything he would have learned from his past dealings with the orcs of these lands?

In trying to divert the orcs from heading toward trails that would lead them though pristine, sacred wilderness and then eventually toward halfling lands, Dennan purposely allowed the orcs to pick up his trail. They seemed to give up on tracking him after a couple days, so he was forced take more extreme measures and got hazardously close to their encampment to leave signs of himself and try to taunt them like a phantom in the forest. At one point he was spotted by a scouting party who sounded the horns and engaged him in combat. During the fight he was outnumbered as more orcs appeared. At a moment with many orcish blades blocking any path of escape his wolf companion suddenly sprang from the underwood cover and broke the line of orcs enough for Dennan to fight his way though. He dropped a few more orcs and disappeared into the forest camouflage.

At a loss for Dennan, the angry orcs turned their attention to the wolf who also retreated toward the forest thick. But the orcs followed the beast. By now many more orcs had arrived and were scouring the area. One cast a net that just barely caught the wolf. Dennan went back to cut his friend free. He narrowly managed to do so while fending off oncoming orcs; the beast bolted to safely. But there were just too many orcs for Dennan to face. He was captured, for the first time he was not free, suffering the same fate as his people almost a decade ago.

Ok cool. Yeah I'm fine with Veronica laying low for the journey too. And the Orcs look like the pig villain Ganon from Legend of Zelda .

Veronica doesn't know Orcish. She only knows common and Elvish anyway. She's basically staying alert right now anyway.
