Character gen rolls and questions

Use this for rolls and any questions around character generation. I will hide this away when we start.

Hello Baron_T,

I created a character, BUT I see that you started this thread for rolls as well as questions. Should I roll my stats here instead? Or is what I submitted okay?

Would it fit with the campaign to make one of my humanoid favored enemy selection orcs and assume that is also one of the languages I understand?

Lets see what the dice bring me :)

Rolls

Stats - (4D6H3, 4D6H3, 4D6H3, 4D6H3, 4D6H3, 4D6H3)

4D6H3 : (3322) = 8

4D6H3 : (4562) = 15

4D6H3 : (4365) = 15

4D6H3 : (6666) = 18

4D6H3 : (6454) = 15

4D6H3 : (2114) = 7

Uhm... wow. The dice like to min/max

Sec your rolls look fine, this was just to give a place so it didn’t clog up the OOC chat. I think it would fit for orcs to be a favored enemy. While not the sole faction that will be in the area, they will be a staple I think.m (and historically the most dominant where we are in the northern mountains/forests)

I asume that we don't start with any note worthy equipment? I figure the orcs have taken it all?

Yes, but you can assume they have it all in the pile of loot.

Baron_T, I am trying to get an idea where exactly Dennan's village was that got raided and his people sold into slavery. I've been reading about Mystara and see that the Iron Ring and slave trade is a thing and that the Iron Keep is overseen by a castellan who keeps rangers and warriors headquartered in that area to be on alert to fight things that may emerge from Achelos Woods and also that she has a personal mission to uncover the workings of the Iron Ring in her area. So that maybe could be part of Dennan's back story. In the least he would have encountered other rangers (that would have possibly been employed by the castellan) while traveling between the 5 Shires and where our characters are presently.

Perhaps Dennan's home village was somewhere between the 5 Shires and Verge??

Also, I see now that the Halflings (hin) are not like Tolkien Hobbits. They all adventure as youth and settle down into the peaceful life as adults. But that is interesting and I think is still very cool for Dennan's backstory.

I was trying to come up with a reason why Dennan knows the language of the Gnomes, and I think it could make sense that he would sometimes get tasked by his Halfing acquaintances to travel to the Wulfwolde Hills and Highforge to purchase specialty items and materials to bring to the Shire.

Anyway, what do you think? And is is there any Mystara material you think we should (or should not!) read?

I think that sounds awesome!! I am making some edits to the lore, for example Aleena is supposed to be the daughter of the Baron of Threshold (as well as the orc clans aren’t in the campaign setting). All that to say I’m fine with you designing the village.

As you the rest I think that all makes a lot of sense.

For things to look at if you have time, Karameikos, Highforge, Threshold I think will give the most value. You can also look at the Kings Law if curious about the law of the land (or do a knowledge local and I can talk you ;)

Things to avoid, Castle Mystamere. I don’t know if we will go there but I may leverage some of the stuff in there or change it to fit PbP.

I picked up the basic Duchy of Karameikos Gazetteer and only read the introduction and player's background so far. Neat world. I missed this setting when I used to play D&D. I don't know how it's so expansive.

Anyway, I just want to run some things by you for your approval. I think I'm gonna have Dennan's people be Traladaran, and their village, which was destroyed in the raid and now is taken over by 8 years of forest overgrowth, a very small village between Rifllian and Verge off the Windrush Road.

Dennan's Wolf is named Silas (meaning "of the Forest") and Dennan usually calls out to him as Si. Do you think there is a set of commands that Dennan could say during action that the wolf would understand? If so what do you think they would be? Or more importantly, what would they cause him to do?

I think Dennan's people could be Traladaran, and his home village---destroyed by an Iron Ring raid when Dennan was 14, his parents killed and people taken as slaves---now abandoned and taken over by 8 years of forest overgrowth. It's a very small village, once called Prasada ("seedling") by his villagers. It lies between Rifllian and Verge, some ways off the Windrush Road.

Also...to explain why Religion is one of Dennan's proficient skills (despite the fact Intelligence is his lowest ability score), Dennan's story includes that his father was once a cleric of the Church of Traladara.

Dennan's father, Vasil Dmitros, served the Church of Traladara, spending considerable time in the capital city Mirros (Specularum???). Due to his patron Immortal being Zirchev, he often was tasked to visit countryside villages and provide aid and spiritual support there.

Only 8 years before Dennan was born and soon after Duke Stefan Karameikois declared Traladaran lands The Grand Duchy of Karemeikos, changes in the structure of the church left Dennan's father unsettled. He acquired a bad taste for the politics that began to emerge in the church in the face of the power struggle between the new Thyatian Church and the Church of Traladara. Because of this Vasil left his position and retired to the small rural village, Prasada, where some of his family already lived. Dennan was born there.

Okay, Baron, to finally answer your question in the game thread!

After Prasada was raided, Dennan survived, alone, in his destroyed village for about a year, until orcs began to cover the area and he was forced to flee. So...the caves the party headed into could be the first places Dennan learned to survive on his own away from the village, at 15 years old. I would imagine that the caves are far enough away from his village that he would have felt safer form the orcs but also not ridiculously far away because he was only 15 at the time and not yet the ranger he is today. I would imagine that he has returned to the caves on a few occasions when patrolling the area. (BUT due to emotional trauma he hasn't ventured back to his village since he left it.)
