Veronica bares her fangs out at the Stone Tusk Orc and with anger in her yellow eyes gives a terrifying hiss before crying out "If you want to die, you slimy git, I'll gladly send you to the hells!" If the Orc gets near her, she'll slice at him with her dagger and cut his throat.

Dropping any extraneous gear he's holding into in the brush, Dennan unsheathes his scimitar--still gripping the looted shortsword he was already holding--and seeing that Veronica is the next in the orc's charge path, he rushes to help her.

"Cadigan," Layla calls a bit instructively, "keep an eye on that fleeing Axe Orc., please. I don't want him to attack any one in the back."

Cadigan nods to Laylas command and gets the prisoners tucked away more hidden.
Laylas fire bolt again goes wide of the mounted Stone Tusk orc. He pulls his charge up short as he looks between the two capable fighters in his path and the fire spitting toward him. After only a moment, he makes his decision and cuts a wide path back to the bonfire and the battle ground.
Dennan can hear him distantly calling for additional fighters but it will take a moment for them to organize themselves with the fighting g still ongoing.
The route is complete with most the Thousand Axe orcs already fled and dispersed. So much so that some of the Stone Tusk orcs have begun looting the dead. The bonfire shifts under its weight and a log falls off.

Dennan looks at Veronica and, still feeling the rush of adrenaline, exhales. "The orc wasn't ready to die alone tonight. I doubt we have very long before before the coward brings the rest of his clan on us. We should move everyone away from here, and quickly!" He says as he heads to pick up the items he dropped in the brush.

Does Dennan have an idea where they are and know of a safe place close enough to suggest the party and prisoners could head to? A cave area, a river crossing, or a close enough town (like Verge maybe)? Last edited January 8, 2023 8:25 am

Veronica nods. "Let's go see if we can find a cave or a thorn thicket or whatever to go lay low until the coast is clear to move on." She says before she silently goes invisible and follows Dennans lead.

You know if a cave in the area but it might take a little bit to get your bearings. I think Verge would likely be the closest town/village. Having a Ranger with forest favored terrain will help a bunch with not getting lost/finding your way.Rolls

Dennan calls to Silas so he may emerge and lead Veronica and him back to Layla. Dennan hopes to unite with the party and talk to Layla about the state of the prisoners and offer these suggestions so they all can make a decision what path to cut.

"So where do we go from here?" Veronica asks a moment later. Though invisible, she is standing next to Layla and only her yellow eyes are glowing.

"Good question my friend. That depends on how Layla feels the other prisoners are holding up. I believe I could lead us to some caves nearby where we could take cover, rest, regain strength, and keep watch while we do so. Or if the rest are able, we could make haste to the Duke’s Road a little more than a day’s journey east. Then we can travel north to the safety of Verge another day or so. Otherwise if they feel sturdy enough we could cut a more treacherous but direct path through the mountain hills to Verge."

Veronica nods. "I'll drop stealth once we know where we are going. Until then, I'm standing near the both of you patiently waiting to see how the others are before we are to move again. "She replied blinking with her yellow eyes.

Dennan, not quite able to make out Veronica's figure so instead focusing on the piercing glow of her yellow eyes lit by the moon, replies "that is wise. There may yet be some Thousand Axe orcs fleeing nearby. I would hate to be the orc who unknowingly wanders by you."

Dennan replies to Layla, "Then we should trust your judgment on the condition of the others. Silas and I can guide us all to the caves. We can take shelter there. Let's make haste as you say before the orcs regroup on us."

The trip to the cave is long but uneventful. The cave, known to Dennan, small but dry and hidden.
"This is it then?" Cadigan walks around assessing the area. "How long will we stay here? I don’t know how much food we have but some of these are pretty weak looking." He glances over at the rest of the prisoners.
The night also passes uneventfully though some do get a bit of rest. The morning sun wakes everyone. One of the prisoners wakes with a start and yelp.
We will need to assess food for everyone or most everyone. As well as what the group wants to do next, stay and hunt/gather/rest and hide, start off to Verge, something else.
