The half-orc looks at the two dwarves as if going to reply, and then back to Agna... twice. Deciding to try his luck again, he starts "Ah good good. We always need help as I was just telling the lovely lady here." He grabs the contract Agna refused to sign and walks closer to the men. He would hope a Dwarf understands the value of a good contract. "You see, with the rumors of the early winter this year, we are a bit overworked at the moment." Still unsure, he shows them the contract to sign. "I'll need your names here, here and there. Dwarven is perfectly fine"

There is short silence as the man waits for their reply. Maybe because of the way it went last time, he decides to break the silence and add some extra enticement to the deal. "We are a bit late on loading the ship, and it would be grand if you could help us collect the last packages. The clients should pay in advance and you get to keep that part for yourselves"

"I'd like to read through the contract before signing, if you don't mind. Don't want to sell ourselves into slavery do we?"
OOC:
If, upon reading the contract, Izuhn finds it agreeable (just a standard contract with no loopholes or gotchas) then he will gladly sign.

"Oh yes sure. I would expect nothing less" the parcelmaster says, quickly pointing out the main points of the contract, time, delivery, payment, etc. He then leaves you to it as he goes check some of the other mercenaries.
OOC:
oooo, you want to read a contract? Roll legalese skill with -5 penalty 🤣

While the half-orc and Izuhn debate the finer points of paperwork, Agna wanders over to inspect just what sort of cargo is being transported by them on the upcoming trip.
Jan 17, 2023 3:54 pm
Squinting to read the fine print, Izuhn racks his brain to recall what reasonable standard terms might be for a mercenary's contract or at least why he decided to try and decipher the arcane writings of legal wizards.

Once he's finally done "reading" through the contract, he signs in a scrawl roughly equivalent to traditional dwarvish.

True! Although, what would a success with a penalty that harsh look like?

OOC:
a crit success: It would be finding anything that would be bad for the signing party while also catching something that totally screws over the person that created the contract

Actually... a -5 penalty means your level is -5 of what it is, so you can click on 5 "wound squares" before rolling. This is actually a common point of confusion with this system; unlike other games, the dice result is never changed. It's the target numbers that are modified. I love the critical idea by the way :D

The man comes back after directing some boxes to be picked up and looks at Izuhn's signature. Smiling, he grabs the contract, and signs as well, reading out loud as he writes "Parcelmaster. Lennart. Bassk. Perfect. Mister..." he looks at the dwarvish signature, trying to read it properly. "Izu Icebeard. Welcome to the Luskar Deliverers". He turns to look expectantly at Fizel.
OOC:
Is Fizel signing the contract as well?

Fizel signs the document with an X. Handing it back to the parcel master Just so you know, If you fail to pay me, I'll get an intimate look at your innards.

"Thank you Leonard."

Izuhn simply shakes his head at Fizel's ominous threat. Moon's light guide us, this is certainly a motley crew, he thinks to himself.

"That won't be necessary" Lennart laughs nervously as he collects the X-signed contract from Fizel. "aaa, welcome to the Luskar... Deliverers?" He says, unsure of what to call the new recruit. Once the contractual obligations are fulfilled he grabs the list he took from his desk before and shows it to Izuhn, who, he concludes, it's the easiest to talk to without risking having any of his internal parks painting the walls. He patiently waits for the dwarf's decision on the extra job.
OOC:
So he suggested you could help him a little while they load the ship... No one mentioned anything about it yet. Not sure you didn't notice with all the contract talk or if you are just going to the pub :D

Of course you guys can go on and do your own thing. There's no "party" to split yet I guess

Izuhn looks over the list, mentally compiling the expected difficulty of each pickup. "Agna, Fizel, it looks like there's more here than one dwarf can manage. The man said there's gold in it for us up front and who can't use some of that? That'll buy us some more supplies before heading out as well. Would you lend a hand or two?"

Let's see what the others say before we pick the next place to go.
Jan 18, 2023 3:18 pm
Agna shrugs. "I have no place I need to be."

OOC:
I d just hadn't gotten to it yet, I'ma money ho, even though we're not really keeping track of it.
So mr Parcelmarster, what's all this about picking up packages? I've never said no to making money when I've nothing better to do.

"Here ya go Fizel. Izuhn hands him the list. I figure it might be best for us to approach each client together and then go back seperately to gather the cargo, if possible, to make things move a little more quickly."
Jan 18, 2023 5:47 pm
Let's make it a single trip and get a horse and cart in case there's a lot to carry.
Jan 18, 2023 5:55 pm
"Dwarven wisdom at its finest. Let's do that. Are there any that we might take, Leonald?" He gestures at their new employer.

"Lennard" the parcelmaster coughs a discreet correction as Izuhn finishes his question. The man seems happier, having found three somewhat willing people to finish the job they can't do at the moment. "A horse and a cart is an excellent idea. Unfortunately, we are using all our animals to take the cargo to the harbor..." He stops to consider for a brief moment, "Actually... Maybe I can get you a mule. Loading the Icebreaker maybe be a bit slower, but if you get everything, it may be worth the wait"...
OOC:
Let's try a timed quest to make this interesting.
* Each time you go somewhere, I'm going to roll a timer, increasing the "timer level" by one.
* Succeeding mean you are running out of time. So this roll is basically to check if you're taking too long for a specific package.
* This means you can take your time discussing where to go in character and so on as it's an overall measure of time passing not a "post counter".

You can split the party to cover more ground if you want, and whoever is "driving" can give me Nature roll to interact with the mule. If you succeed, I remove one level from the "timer" as you manage to move faster. Look at the map and tell me, at least in OOC, where you want to go, and more or less though which road/bridge as some paths may be blocked and force you to loose time. You may have to search, ask or recall (roll) information to find some of the clients.
