The Perilous Forest

"Okay then. You may be right. Is there a way to cover them so we may not be affected by any charm of theirs?"

With a pile of flammable items ready to be set ablaze in the center of the hovel, Gregor looks for a large enough skin or something similar to wrap the tablets in.

"Well, let’s hurry and confer with our companions before setting this place ablaze."

"What find you in there, knights?" Wolsten shouts from outside, riding his warhorse right to the entrance of the hovel. "Be quick and be thorough. Burn the doom-filled place! Every bit!"

Sir Wilfred winces, but says nothing. He still pursues his task to make the hovel burn.

The hovel resists fire but not for long. A general sogginess to the environment works against you, but once the fire catches into dry furniture and furnishings, it picks up. Thick, cloying smoke billows from the structure.

You're soon confident that it will be entirely consumed by flame.

I assume Gregor and Wilfred relate everything they saw to their companions outside. Also I guess they carried the tablets out with them

"I could use this to cover the tablets although what good it might do I do not know, Sir Gregor."

Sir Gareth shamelessly pulls out a wimple he was given by a lady friend in which the tablets could be wrapped.

Sorry I missed Wilfred's response earlier about destroying the tablets. Gregor's first thought--and it seems Wilfred agreed-- was that we should destroy them. I think we got a little mixed up and things went a bit out of order. So what does everyone think is best...did Wilfred and Gregor leave the tablets in the hovel to melt, or did they take them out with them?

Does Wolstan see them removing these stone tablets from the hovel?

Harrigan before you ask that...I'm asking if Gregor and Wilfred actually did or did not remove the pewter tablets from the hovel. There was confusion in our posting and the act of taking or leaving the tablets got confused in the mix. What does everyone think the wisest thing to do is??

Fair! And well, all I can tell you is how superstitious Wolstan will react if he sees you removing the tablets, but I'd rather do that IC. =]

Sir Wilfred stands by his position, and does not touch the tablets. He will not interfere with anyone who wishes to get hold of them though.

Back inside the hovel I misread and thought Gareth's response to Gregor's question was Wilfred's response, since only Wilfred and Gregor were inside the hovel. From there things kinda didn't make any sense....to me at least. Sorry about that.

Qralloq, Gregor and Wilfred did leave the tablets in the hovel.

The hovel burns down and the curse tablets remain inside, untouched. You're uncertain what will happen to them as they're pewter. If the fire is not enough, perhaps they'll melt or deform.
OOC:
Where to next? Back to the Earls castle for the showdown?

If Wolstan is told of these tablets, he’d want to stick around to make sure they were destroyed. Sorry to dwell on this, but the whole idea of coming here, to him, is to wreck any spells of charming she might have cast on the Earl.

Sir Wilfred approaches Sir Wolstan. "We found little of interest inside the hovel. Only a couple of pewter tablets, showing some obviously cursed words. It's time to leave, I think, unless you want to see the place burned down to ashes..." he says.

"But those tablets may still have viable curses. We should be assured that they are thoroughly destroyed. I say we wait for the smoke to clear and go inside and check."
Jun 7, 2023 3:59 am
"Aye, Sir Gareth," Wolstan says from his charger. "We’ll smash and scatter what survives the inferno."
Jun 7, 2023 6:02 am
"I agree Sir Gareth and Sir Wolstan, I think is is wise to wait and be sure all is destroyed, including those tablets. For all we know the witch has minions who would pull the tablets out from the inferno if we were to leave before being sure nothing survives the fire."

You wait for several hours, the picts setting up a rudimentary camp when it's clear that waiting for the fire to burn low is what your doing. The two ladies find a place in the shade to relax and wait this out, well outside of the smell of smoke.

Great steaks of black smoke rise high into the air, likely visible for many miles. The plume has a putrid glow, flecked with greens and purples.

When the hovel has burnt low enough that you can get close to the coals, steaming in the mucky wet ground, and by searching with long poles, you find the pewter tablets are misshapen blobs of metal. The writing on them liked to be obscured completely.
Jun 8, 2023 12:17 am
"Do these blobs hold some magic still, do you think? Sir Gareth asks as he pokes at them with a stick.

"Perhaps since there are remnants of them they remain a threat. But how would we know?"
