Greenest in Flames

Having left Baldur's Gate a few days ago the trip thus far has been without incident. On Mogguth's suggestion you've been skirting the northern edge of The Wood of Sharp Teeth allowing for the ease of both hunting small game and navigation. It's roughly midday and you've been making good time since breaking camp this morning. In a few hours you should reach the eastern edge of the wood and turn south towards your destination; Greenest.

"Stop!" a loud voice coming from in front of your position yells. Before you can respond an orc climbs out of a small gulley about 20 feet ahead and slowly looks the group over. He gaze locks onto Do'urth and he casually throws out an old Orcish curse towards the "rotten, half-breed" before announcing that he expects payment to let you pass.

"Ten gold. Consider it a tax for walking on Orc land!"

Tayleron hears the orc demand payment as well as cursing the half breed. Then throws back an equal insult questioning his mother's breeding habits as well as his parentage. Then fires an arrow at him.

Triana had spent the last few days observbing the group making mental notes and until now she had only a cursery view. She wasn't sure how this enterprise would go but so far it was intriguing. She watched Tayleron take not kindly to the Orc's jibe and strike.

"If we must fight. Then let it be so."

Triana reached for her sword.

"A strong counter offer, Tayleron. Perhaps they are prone to negotiating." Mogguth pulls her shield in close, and drops the head of her battleaxe so that it slides down her hand until she is gripping it by the haft.

"But perhaps not."

She keeps an eye out for foes approaching from other directions, in case it is a ruse.

Do'urth happily accepts the insult, and draws both of his shortswords. You'll be complementing me by the time this half-breed is finished kicking your ass.

None too pleased with the ranger's insult the big creature nimbly unhooks his axe from his belt and charges in towards Tayleron only to be struck in the shoulder with an incoming arrow. "Have to do better than that!" he yells as he raises his axe....

As far as Mogguth can tell, this Orc is all on his own.

Do'urth, having been a trained assassin, would be much more useful if he had a more stealthy approach to things. However, attacking without the element of surprise can keep his assassin identity at bay for now until he can trust his companions. Luckily, Do'urth is versatile, and he has no problem crossing blades as a front. Firmly grasping both of his shortswords, Do'urth smiles as he twirls the steel with speed and balance, and thrusts his dominant handed blade toward the Orcs jugular, quickly followed by the flash of his off handed blade piercing towards the orcs ribs.

Do'urth's blades sing as they whip through the air and slice into the orc's flesh. The first blade finds the beast's neck and before it can even react the second penetrates between ribs and into a lung. Obviously hurt, he slumps to his knees, and then falls backwards to the ground.

"Kill me!" he chokes, staring up at the sky.

I don't believe you get your attribute bonus on your offhand damage - unless I'm missing something?

I'm pretty sure I have my attack bonus. However, I do believe you're right if you mean damage. My apologies.

No worries, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a feat or some other special thing a half-orc can do. :-) And yes, attack bonus is still valid, just not damage.

Assuming you're ok with this I'll be rolling for a pursaion and attack. Basically attack after seeing the result of the pusuasion.
Triana approached the Orc drawing her fine basket hilted rapier from it's slender sheath approaching and speaking. "You villianous beast will tell me where you companions are along this route, should you do I promise you a swift end. She placed her blade the tip close to the Orcs neck. All it would take is a thrust of the blade and the following motions for the blade to pierce it's neck.

[ooc] Considering the rolls I'm more inclined to stab him.[\ooc]

The orc doesn't respond to Mogguth's prodding toe and simply produces a weak smile when threatened by Triana. Not the response the bard was hoping for she plunges her blade into the creature's neck finishing off what the others had started.

Do'urth meticulously wipes the blood off of his shortswords, and eases them back in their sheathes. He then kneels down to search the Orc for any useful items.

Apparently the orc's tax ploy has been successful at least once before as Do'urth finds a small pouch which contains 10GP. There's also a small iron key on a string around his well bloodied neck.
Jul 30, 2016 1:03 am
Do'urth lifts the corpses head, and steadily retrieves the key, along with the pouch. I'm not a fan of giving away coin so easily, but I'm a fair man of course. He jingles the pouch of coins, and slings the key around his neck, the key resting next to Do'urths fang necklace. So how shall we split this?

" Why don't you hold on to it for all of us until it's needed. But be warned don't run off with it." Tayleron eyes the half Orc with a steady gaze.
Jul 30, 2016 1:20 am
Do'urth chuckles If anything, I'd go in search for the poor tax payer and return the gold. he returns the gaze, staring down at the elf. Do'urth then turns back to the corpse, kneels down, and rips out the orcs fangs. Now you're a bigger disgrace than even a halfbreed he chuckles again, and spits on the corpse. Shall we continue then?
