General Rules discussion

First off, here is the Rulebook for Modern20

http://www.rpgobjects.com/index.php?c=system20

Which I guess you have to purchase the rules to see this Web book.

Anyways, we're adapting Modern20 to a classless system with 5e rules instead of 3.5 rules. So we're going to hit some bumps. This is for discussing those problems.

Hi! I'm in the process of filling out my character sheet and I was wondering if you could clarify the difference between a Skill Die, a Rank Die, and a Skill Bonus Die? I'm assuming Skill Die/Rank Die are the same thing but I'm not sure how they differ from Skill Bonus Die?

I think we a bit of a misunderstanding.

D20 rolls are almost always skill checks, and typically are calculated as follows: Attribute Die + Skill Die + Skill Bonus Die + (Misc bonus/penalty) die.

So, if you had to jump, and you have an Dexterity of 16, and you have 4 ranks in Acrobatics, and you have a feat that grants a +2 to Acrobatics checks, but it's slippery where you are granting a -3, you'd roll:

1d20+1d6+1d4+1d4+-1d6

Am I making this any clearer?

Skill die are determined based on your ranks in a skill. Skill bonuses are granted, typically, from feats.

Ah, I see! On the character sheet template, the column for Skill Die is labelled Rank Die so I got a bit confused between that and Skill Bonus Die, but that makes total sense now, thank you :)

Whoops! I'll fix that

And what is the Ability Score Die? Is that what in DnD would be the Ability Modifier, and what does it correspond to on the variable modifiers table?

Yes, you've got it.

+1 = 1d2
+2 = 1d4
+3 = 1d6
+4 = 1d8
+5 = 1d10

Confidential Access | Restricted equipment, confidential information, access to sensitive non-military installations (such as a nuclear power plant or a power station). Gaining access to confidential information or installations is not automatic but requires an Influence check (DC 20).
Influence is Presence now, right? Or would it be Persuasion in this context?

Modern20 made all Charisma skills one skill, Influence. I DID NOT like that, and split it up. Most of the Charisma based skills used to be Influence.

Anyways, in this context, yes, Persuasion, and I'd also include Bureaucracy.

Question: can we use more than one action point bonus on the same roll?

You may only spend one action point on your turn, and no more than two per round (in case you are using a reaction to do something)
