Welcome @Yuun
This is where we can discuss charsheet creation or anything else. Start by going through the Welcome thread, which has a link to character creation, and let me know if you have any questions

Hey Psybermagi,

Thank you for getting me started.

Quick question, I'm looking to create a monk-like character that doesn't use weapons. I'm referencing the Tiny Dungeon 2e rules and I'm not sure how you'd like me to begin since there are additional options in your list of character options.
Quote:
Martial Artist: Be like water, flowing through cracks. You can select
Unarmed as a Weapon Group to be proficient with. You must select
a particular martial arts attack as your Mastered Weapon.
Should I pick something like punches, kicks, or palm strikes as the "Mastered Weapon" for my Unarmed Weapon Group? Also, Do I need to set a discipline that I'm working towards or have practiced? ie: Fire, Water, Earth, Metal, etc listed in the optional rules of Tiny Dungeon 2e.

There isn't much in terms of rules directing this type of pursuit at the beginning. It seems like more of the depth and direction comes after I've become a Grandmaster, which I am most definitely not.

My idea was to create a monk that isn't necessarily a honed fighter as much as avoidant of harm, if possible.

Welcome Yunn
I start character a bit weaker than the official rules do with only 2 traits and no weapon mastery. Those will come after your first couple adventures. I did this to keep it simple.
Basically take a trait as a Martial artist and declare a primary attack form that will become your mastered attack.
You can pick background info for your evolution but it is not required.
Write up your thought in a character sheet and submit it and I can give feedback.

Perfect. Thank you!

Submitted, and I added a few notes on my thoughts at the bottom. Totally happy to reroll anything as this character can be used elsewhere, too.

Can you explain Exotic Ingredients?

What trait improves his ability to dodge?
Options
Brawler: While Fighting Unarmed, your Evade action Tests with 2d6 (instead of 1d6.)

Since you don't plan on being a damage dealer now about something like this
Scrapper: You can select Unarmed as a Weapon Group to be proficient with. You do not get to pick a Weapon to Master. Instead, when fighting Unarmed, you get one extra action each turn.

Scraper can still be user for Grand Master prestige class.

I saw Exotic Ingredients on the list and figured it would be that I'm well versed in ingredients that are not common in traditional kitchens/uses. That my experience of gathering ingredients had lent me knowledge on how to use them more. But now I think that might be more difficult than I intended for this learning experience.

However, I'm not married to that as a trait.

I like the idea of scraper for a monk. The extra action could easily be RP'd in as "fluid movement" chaining a few things together.

What about 2 traits as Acrobatic and Scraper, but I'll keep my Belief and purpose. This way I can RP in my pursuit for adventure/ingredients, but my traits are more geared to the adventure rather than my personal challenge... making it harder to accomplish.

Does that sound better?

Wow, you're right. Exotic Ingredients is/was there and I can not really think why. LoL. I am new to The Tiny D6 system and pulled ideas from sources I have yet to fully explore. I cleaned up the traits list to avoid this in the future.

The way I see it the cook family trade will give you advantage on knowing about ingredients but less so in finding and harvesting. (Now that i think about it that might be what the exotic Ingredients trait is about, a sort of specialized treasure hunter). If you wish to adjust your family trade to something a bit more focused on gathering then something like Herbalist, Hunter, or Alchemist could work. Or explain a bit on the cooking activities you imagine your family doing.

Acrobat and scraper are fine. Scraper is combat focused, Acrobat is on movement, and your trade is daily activities. Scraper will let you use the Dodge action each round and skl be able to move and attack.

Update your character sheet with trait and family trade descriptions

I'm going to swap this up a little because I feel it pushes me too close to herbalist, which is too familiar to one of the other new characters interesting backstory.

I'll keep the traits Acrobat and Scrapper, and still have Cooking as a family trade. My Belief will change to push me to exploration of world/self because of something I fear instead, if you'll allow it.

To find a hermit master in order to aide a troubling development: a monk using their own life to generate ki. Note: Yogitus doesn't believe he has this ability, but he also has never tried out of fear.
I'm thinking that will push him and create tension without altering any lore/game mechanics, assuming the concept of ki can be implemented or redefined with your setting. Like maybe these monks are accelerating a change in themselves akin to the Warborn for temporary physical / mental ability?

Updated the character sheet to reflect this shift.

Cool looks good.
For the minor magic Item I adjusted it a bit to a 2 magic pockets and 4 regular ones

I will start your thread in a bit. Do you want to jump strait to the scrum with everyone else or do the standard solo intro first?

Have you looked into adding a picture to your character? This is what will show up when you "Post As" Yogitus. Edit the character sheet and click "Change Avatar" top right

I'll do that later today. As for where to start, I'm fine with either. I'll adapt to whatever situation is presented :)

I will kick you off solo on the wagon train tomorrow.

How about you found a hermit master but he sent you to find records from the first age and Dawn War about Ki. He offers to help deciphering any text or diagrams and understanding their application. This is why you end up heading to the expedition

Perfect. Thank you Psybermagi. :)

Just for a little fun with the back story. The hermit gave you a charm and mantra that will allow you to share a dream with him once. He can then share your memories and explain what you found.

Interesting! I like it.
