Welcome Furrowflung

Take a look at the To Start post in the general Welcome thread and answer any of those questions, if relevant. Also skim through that old welcome thread to get a feel for what we do here (it was getting a little long for new players to have their personal welcome tacked onto the end:).

Feel free to chat here, or in the general Welcome thread. And take a look at what we we currently have in the other threads when you have time.

I see you mentioned in the GM Mentoring Project thread that you were interested in 'pacing and organisation'. These are always very subjective topics, and often go a long way towards defining a GM's style (we are all different (and many would say I am not good at 'stopping' with the questions, and am 'too collaborative':)).

Are you specifically asking about pacing in PbP, or in general? PbP adds its own complications to that question, but those mainly just amplify the general play advice: It is much harder to pick up on queues when one can not see the other players, even just changing from 'face to face at a table' to 'live on the internet' reduces the amount of subtlety we have access to, add the tone-deafness that comes with written text, and the long delays --that usually have nothing to do with the game-- and we all have to be patient and understanding.

This does sound cliche, but the best way to 'get better' at anything is to practice. Getting feedback is a key part of that, though, and getting feedback can be hard, people don't want to criticise. So make it clear, to the others in your game, that you are wanting to better yourself in a particular area and are actively wanting feedback on how you are doing in that regard.

As with all feedback, pay more attention to what they say you are doing wrong or right than to how they think you can fix it. You are wanting feedback, not advice, the books are full of advice. :)

Read lots of systems --even if you don't think you will play them-- many games have advice or show certain issues that you can learn from.

Watch what works for other GMs, and what does not. Think about how you would do it differently --with the advantage of stress-free hindsight-- and try those ideas in your own games.

Ask questions as you need, here or in your games. I hope we can help you get what you want.

What GMing or playing experience do you have? What systems do you like? There is stuff to learn from games that are not PbtA, and stealing is allowed.

You do not have permission to post in this thread.
